The Board of Directors is pleased to present to you the action of the two-year term.

Organised the cutting of the cake bothyears and provided an opportunity for members, villagers and friends to meet and chat in a beautiful and civilizedenvironment .CRYSTAL CITY HOTEL

At these events we honored and brought forward those offers that helped the Association.

Reconstructed the Association's website www.homori.com and gave the opportunity for everyone to be informed immediately about the happenings inthe Association and in our village.

Redesigned and reopened in collaboration with the newspaper director Mrs. Filio Athanasiou QDrosou "THE VOICE OF CHOMORIS" a newspaper of the AssociationWorldwide Chomoriton. If it is true that all is judged from the result, then we are on track and will try for the best. I want to thank the sponsors of the newspaperand Mr. Christos Egglezos Mr. Dimitris I.Zamparas.

Early March 2011 the repair of the interior of P.KE.CHO began. In April 2011 we started work in the forecourt of P.KE.CHO. In collaboration with our sponsorsMr. Panagiotis Skiadas and Tryfonas Skiadas we constructed and renovatesd the exterior and interior of our cultural center. The projects will continue and isexpected to finish at the end of Spring 2013. The Cultural Center Chomoris already feel like a jewel of Nafpaktia.

Cared for the cleanliness and safety of villagers in our village during the summer. At The expense of the Association became the maintenance and painting ofthe iron railings, chairs and tables in the central square of our village. Also, there was a partial restoration of football fields and basketball courts. Placed beamsand nets on the court and tidied up the playground area. With the help of the municipality of Nafpaktia and our fellow Councilor Mr. Christos Egglezos the bed ofthe river war reformed in the summer time.

Resolved the problem with various accounts of our association and restore function (on legality) that existed with the IRS and the Prefecture.

Organized the reunion Chomoriton 2011 and 2012, the results of which are known to everyone and we do not think that further reference is needed.

There was good cooperation between the Local Chairman of our village and Mr. Pericles Ziamparas Board of our Association.

Finally we consider the Report of the Board two years was positive. In these difficult times we're not far from the Association together we can fight for a betterfuture of our country. Good luck to the new board resulting from the current elections, so armed with strength, courage, effort and eager to work, to be able todo the very best for our village.

Wish we all have a "good year full of health, joy and creation." For the BoardBabis Chantzis

Once again thank you for having chosen as Director of the Association newspaper last year, making anassessment I would like to assure you that I tried:

1. Along with the President and other members of the Board to issue on a regular basis our newspaper anddistributed everywhere inside and outside Greece. Recently it became color on all pages. At this point Iwould like to thank our villagers Egglezos Chris and Dimitri Zamparas who have fully offered assistancefor publishing and distribution.

2. And I partly succeeded to strengthen relations of Chomoriton inside and outside Greece.

3. The combination of yesterday and today for the older to remember and the younger to learn.

4. Awareness of the cultural life of the Association, aiming to maintain a strong relationship with the rootsand history of the village maintaining the manners, customs and traditions of their ancestors.

5. Update on the renovations of traditional buildings and landscaping-which are the "identity" of thevillage-made with donations of fellow villagers.

6. Update on progress especially young children who excel both abroad and within Greece.

Finally I want to assure you that our goal and purpose this year will be to show all of your suggestions andideas that we will receive either via e-mail, or letters for the improvement of conditions of both permanentand temporary residents in the village, a pleasant stay for all of us in the summer months, especially theyouth, to make the village an attraction.

The Office of the General State Archives in County Aitoloakarnania responsible for collecting, preserving, recording, sortingand distribution to research and study the history of our public and private archives, formally received from the MayorNafpaktias Mr. John Boules and President of the Local Community Chomoris Pericles Zamparas the file that was kept inthe village school, along with the Chomoris community file.

The record of community that has survived includes a Registry for the years 1834-1924 for Boys and a Girls Registryfor the years 1870-1969. It also includes minutes of the Community Council, records and documents folders correspon-dence Births community issues, electoral, community rulers and irrigation, agriculture and livestock, forestry, statistics, etc. from the year 1958 to 1996. Then the community joined the "Kapodistrian" Platanos municipality. The file of thePrimary School dates back to 1928 and includes the Books of Acts of the School Board, financial books, records, securitiesregistration students (example, certificates), documents and books of student kitchens, statistical summaries andcorrespondence documents folders. It partially functioned as a school with few pupils from 1980 to 1984 and finally wasabolished in 1985.

The role, however, of the service of General State Archives do not end with the collection and management of archivalmaterial in the office but also extends to the presentation and disclosure, as well as to facilitate researchers to sourcesof history made known to both scholars and the general public. So the files are required to play the role of a livingorganism with intervention in cultural affairs. In this context emerged the cooperation with the Association of Chomoritonand the chairman of Mr. Babis Chantzis in an attempt to showcase the history of the village and the history of the school. The shape and evolution of this collaboration will be developed in the coming months as the Association is working on theorganization and operation of the Cultural Center in the renovated school in Chomoris. This building seems to me as amirror of the soul of Chomoriton who along with the money spent on its renovation submitted their love and somethingof their soul. Personally, I could not deny any assistance and cooperation since last year I pray to Kavadiotissa, I dancedin the square and my kids have dived in Kotsalos.

The first site is Qumran in the solitary Judean desert where between 1947 and1956 the famous Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. This discovery was one ofthe greatest archaeological finds of all time. The extraordinary manuscriptsappear to have been hidden in the caves of Qumran by the Essenes, a Jewishsect in existence before and during the time of Jesus. Written in Hebrew,Aramaic and Greek, the scrolls have transformed our understanding of theHebrew Bible, early Judaism and the origins of Christianity.

The second site that causes admiration to the eye and awe to the soul of thevisitor is the Holy Monastery of St. Catherine on the foot of the God troddenMount Sinai. Gazing at it from far away, one can unhesitantly say that its visibleb e a u t y u n w i l l i n g l y d i r e c t s y o u r s o u l t o w a r d s t h e i n v i s i b l e G o d .Mount Sinai, with the Holy Monastery in its foot, is very well known andrespected by the whole world, not only for its physical beauty and its imposinggrandeur, but mainly because here, three thousand years ago, God revealedHimself in a special manner. It was here that the Prophet Moses saw theburning, but not consumed, bush. $Then the Angel of theSee (Exodus 3:2, 5 & 6)Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he saw thebush burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.%And, where he heardGod's voice saying to him, $Moses! Moses!%Then he said, $Here I am.%So He said,$Do not come any closer. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place whereyou stand is Holy ground.%

-The first news regarding the Monastery of St. Catherine we find in thechronicles of the Patr iarch ofAlexandria, Entyhios, who lived during

Cthe 9th entury: These chroniclestell us how Helena, the mother ofEmperor Constantine, remained soimpressed by the sacredness of theplaces that in the year 330 sheordered the construction of a smallchapel on the site where the burningbush had been located. The chapelwas dedicated to the Blessed VirginMary. A series of bloody raids andmurder that followed by the nomadictribes of the desert, forced the monksof the monastery to ask for protectionand help not only from the Byzantinestate, but also from the ProphetMohammed himself who issued a

protective document, a copy of which can still be seen oday in the museumtof the monastery.

The year 530 the emperor Justinian ordered the construction of a much largerBasilica: the one which would be the magnificent Church of the Transfiguration. It was then that the monastery took on the appearance of a massive fortificationwith walls of 12 to 15 meters tall. Upon entering the monastery, one's firstimpression is that of entering a medieval village; similar to the village of our ownfort of Monemuasia. The buildings are crowded together, each one of a differentshape and style, seem to have sprung up by chance, without any order or precisearchitectural plan. And yet the sense of harmony and of spirituality that emanatesfrom them is great.

The church of transfiguration is the heart of the monastery and has the largestand oldest collection of icons in the world. The thousands of icons that one cansee in the monastery constitute one of the greatest treasures not only of themonastery, but also of the whole Orthodox world. The richly gilded backgroundof the icons attests to the affluence of the faithful and of the monastery in themiddle ages.

Throughout the centuries Christians of all denominations, even emperors, madedonations of icons and other ecclesiastical objects to the monastery. Thesedonations attest to the profound faith that prevailed in Sinai 17 centuries ago.

Nikos Theofanis passed away and was buried in Chomori

Our sincere condolences to his family.

The year 640 after the conquest of Egypt by the Arabs, the monastery ceasedto be under the authority of the Byzantine State. When the Orthodox Churchduring the reign of the emperor Leo III in 728 forbade the veneration of icons(Eiconomahia) the monastery was under Islamic occupation and thus thedestruction of the monastery's icons was avoided. As a result, the monasterywas able to have preserved the only surviving Orthodox icons of the 5thcentury. With the restoration of the icons in 843, the production of Byzantineicons continued without interruption in the entire Byzantine Orthodox world.

One of the most compelling icons that the monastery possesses is the one thatdepicts monks on a ladder with many steps, seeking salvation on the heavenlyladder, an event described by the Sinaitic monk Saint John Climacus. Behindthe iconostasis, above the high altar, we find perhaps the most precioustreasure in the Basilica: the grandiose mosaic of the transfiguration. Datable tothe 6th century in the delicate harmony of its colors, it is one of the finestmosaics that have come down to us. Similar in style to the mosaic of St. Sophiaof Constantinople, represents the transfigured Christ in the center, the twoprophets Moses and Elijah to the left and at the feet of Christ, the apostlesPeter, James and John. For the description of the transfiguration of Christ, see(Luke 9:28-36 and Matthew 17:1-3).

The cultural importance of St. Catherine's Monastery rests not so much in itsantiquity and its rich collection of rare icons as much as in its Library. ItsLibrary, known as Therapeion Psychis (healing for the spirit) is considered asthe world's greatest repository of early medieval writing after the Vatican. Thecollection is even richer than it first appears, because many of the 3,300ancient manuscripts that the Library possesses are palimpsests that is,manuscripts (parchments) containing hidden texts older than their visiblecontents. Palimpsests (from the compound Greek word meaning again, scrapeoff, are parchments (mainly made from the skins of newly born animals, lambs, etc.) on which the original writing was erased so that scribes could reuse theprecious parchment. Today due to the advancement of science in spectralimaging and ultraviolet irradiation, researchers are able to make the overtoptext disappear as far as possible while enhancing the appearance of the undertext. As father Justin explained a monk of the monastery who is running theoperation of deciphering the monastery's palimpsests for years now themonastery has 3,300 manuscripts out of which 130 are palimpsests. Most ofthese manuscripts are written in Greek and the rest are written in tenlanguages Aramaic, Syrian, Coptic, Arabic, etc.

The text of these manuscripts is mainly theological, but also are manuscriptswith historical and scientific content. Among others from this library come twoof the most important and well-known codices of ancient times: The CodexSyriacus and the Codex Sinaiticus. This Sinaiticus Codex is the oldest and theonly existing complete copy of the original Greek manuscript of the HolyScriptures. The monastery's Archbishop Damionos with his mostly Greek monksencourages the scientific research of the Palimpsests, hoping that theirdeciphering will bring to light new texts of great cultural value unknown tillnow.

Due to new scientific techniques, researchers and scholars were able torecover the texts of seven of the Archimedes' treaties, two of which were notknown from any other source. They were also able to recover a medical treaticeknown to be the oldest Hippocratic text. Scientists that are now working on theSinai manuscripts were also able to reveal texts from the ancient world, including speeches by Hyperides, an Athenian orator of the 4th century B.C.and a 3rd century commentary on Aristotle's $categories%. It remains to be seenwhether new treasures to match the Archimedes Palimpsest are revealed atthe Holy Monastery of the God-trodden Mount Sinai.

Until then, let us keep praying to the miraculous St. Catherine to keep themonastery for many more centuries unchanged, inspiring many, many morefuture generations to visit it.
