Question B:我們家用 TSM/HSM作備份,在舊的磁帶區 (LTO3 Tape pool)下,萬一 LTO3磁帶有壞掉,無法讀取資料, TSM/HSM 是否可以自動到新採購的磁帶區 (LTO6 Tape pool)讀出該資料? ?

答案是肯定的 !! TSM/HSM 可以提供copy pool功能,萬一磁帶有壞掉,無法讀取資料,是可以自動到 copy pool讀出該資料, copy pool可以使用原來舊的磁帶區 (LTO3 Tape pool),也可分散到新的磁帶區 (LTO6 Tape pool) ,並建議新的磁帶區 (LTO6 Tape pool),可以多設 Primary pools ,因為效能比較好 !!

Question C:舊磁帶壞掉,無法讀取資料,很討厭 !有何預防措施 ??

TSM/HSM 可以提供 AUDIT VOLUME (Verify Database Information for a Storage Pool Volume)功能,可以訂出 schedule利用每天磁帶系統較空暇的時間,作磁帶的健康檢查,其方法是 TSM會將磁帶資料讀出再與其內部的資料庫作資料比對,預先找出壞掉的磁帶。

Question D:LTO6可以向下相容 LTO4,如果只是讀取資料, TSM/HSM的環境下,為什麼不可以在同一個 tape pool ??

LTO可以向下相容兩代,但不同代的LTO效能差異很大,所以建議不同代的LTO不要置於同一個 tape pool,就好像我們不會讓不同效能的硬碟放在同一個RAID Group,才能避免舊裝置拖延新設備。至於加入新的 LTO6磁帶頭如何發揮其效能 ?我們可以透過資料高低水位的設定,將負載作調整,原來舊的磁帶區(LTO4 Tape pool)負載,可分散到新的磁帶區 (LTO6 Tape pool),如此原有舊的磁帶區及新的磁帶區即可共同作業,發揮最大效能 !!

TSM/HSM 的 BACKUP POOL必需使用SEQUENTIAL DEVICE,磁帶區 (Tape pool)即是 SEQUENTIAL DEVICE,至於磁碟區 (Disk pool)是可以作為SEQUENTIAL DEVICE或 RANDOM DEVICE,也就是說 BACKUP POOL可以在磁帶區或磁碟區。

在不壓縮狀況下每台 LTO3的效能為80MB/sec,而每台 LTO6的效能為160MB/sec,且於資料壓縮狀況下LTO3=240MB/sec,但 LTO6=400MB/sec。 另外可多裝磁帶頭以增加資料處理窗口 !! 另外加裝機械臂也可增加效能 !!
