从句在复合句中充当名词使用,从句又叫名词性从句。

名词性从句可以表示:事实和问题。连接词有: that , whether 和 if .that: 在句子中不起作用,只起连接的作用.**在主语和表语从句中不能省略.** If 不可用于在主语、表语和同位语从句中,但可用 whether代替.连接代词有: who whom whose which what 等 连接副词有: when where why how 等另外 whatever whoever whichever 等 也可以引导主语从句和宾语从句。

**主语从句为了避免头重脚轻的现象,常用形式主语 it 来引导句子。

It is clear that the elephant doesn’t look like a fan.

很明显,大象看上去不像一把扇子.

**同位语从句

跟在某些名词后面,对该名词作进一步解释说明。

常用名词有 belief, fact, idea, hope, news, doubt, result, thought, information, opinion 等等。 suggestion, suggest/order/demand/wish 等.

常用连词: that , when , where , why 和 how 等等。

News came that Napoleon would come and     inspect his grand army.

It’s the question how he did it.

消息传来,拿破仑要来视察他的军队。

问题是他是如何做这件事的。

比较:同位语从句与定语从句

We expressed the hope that they had expected. 定语从句

我们表达了他们曾经表达过的那种希望。

We expressed the hope that they would come to visit China again.  同位语从句

我们希望他们再来中国访问。

分析:

1. 引导同位语的连词 that 在句中不作任何句子成分,而在定语从句中, that 充当的可以是从句的主语或宾语等。

2. 同位语从句是对前面名词的内容的具体说明,而定语从句是对前面名词进行修饰,解释为“… . 的”

3. 连词 that 在同位语从句中不可省略而在定语从句中当它充当的是从句宾语时可以省略。

1.The news that the plane would take off on time made everybody happy.
