미국 벡터 (Vector) 사는 지난 2001 년 발암성 물질을 줄인 담배 ‘ OMNI’ 를 선보인 데 이어 , 2003 년에는 저니코틴 담배 ‘ QUEST’ 를 출시했다 . 이 담배는 기존 담배와 비교해 니코틴 함량을 97% 낮춘 GM( 유전자조작 ) 담배로 제조됐다 . 그러나 향과 맛 등의 주요 특징들은 기존 담배와 거의 동일한 것으로 전해졌다 .
