オリヴィア・パレルモにとって旅は日常の一コマ。さまざまな行先や環境、気温、時間帯を頻繁に行き来している。季節にかかわらず、洗練されたスタイルということに関して、彼女はプロである。荷造り（かなり徹底している）から、機内での過ごし方、そして外国での仕事や観光の際の服装に至るまで、すべてにおいて彼女が大事にしているのは、気楽さということ。機内に持ち込む荷物やチェックインの際に預ける荷物について、彼女に話を聞いた。

For Olivia Palermo, travel is a regular part of her daily routine – hitting different destinations, environments, temperatures and time zones frequently. She’s a pro when it comes to looking polished – regardless of the temperature outside. So for her, it’s all about ease – from the packing process (which is apparently quite in-depth) to her time in the air to the outfits she puts together, for work or sightseeing, while abroad. Ms. Palermo shows us how it’s done – whether she’s carrying on or checking a bag.

Planes, trains, automobiles, and boats. Olivia Palermo’s travel schedule is as hectic as they come. From hitting as many as 5 countries in the same week to simultaneously managing various time zones, the one thing that needs to come easy is knowing what to pack… and how to pack it. We will let the pro take it from here.

A Travelling

TALEYou always seem to be on the go. What are your earliest memories of travelling? I used to take wonderful trips in the summer with my mother and we would travel throughout Europe for several weeks.

Where to? We would go to London, Paris, Rome and Venice. Travelling for me, and I think for young people as well, is definitely an education.

What are some things that you love to do in the summer time? I like to take as much time off as I can. I love going to the beach and spending time on the water – it clears my head. I also love the act of discovery and wandering in and out of every small beach town that I encounter. I am a beach girl.

What are some of your favourite things to wear during the summer? I always like to wear chiffon. It moves beautifully. I also love light tweeds. I also have to suggest pastel colours – there’s something about wearing them in the summer that I love!

いつも各地を飛び回っているようですね。幼い頃の旅行の思い出は？よく夏に母と素敵な旅行をしました。母と数週間かけて ヨーロッパの都市を巡りました。

どこへ行かれたのですか？ロンドン、パリ、ローマ、それにベニスです。私にとって、また若い人たちにとってもそうだと思いますが、旅行はさまざまな知識を得られる経験です。

夏にはどんなことがしたいですか？できるだけ長く休みを取りたいですね。ビーチに行って、海に浮かんで過ごすのが大好きです。とてもリフレッシュできるので。偶然見つけた小さな浜辺の町をぶらぶらと巡り歩くのも好きです。私、ビーチっ子なのです。

どんな夏服がお気に入りですか？夏はとにかくシフォンがいいですね。動いた時の生地の感じがきれいで気に入っています。ライトツイードも大好きです。もちろん、パステルカラーも。大好きな夏に身に付けるパステルカラーには、特別な思い入れがあります！

飛行機、列車、自動車、そして船。オリヴィア・パレルモの旅行日程はとても慌ただしい。1週間に5か国を巡ったり、各地の時間帯を同時に管理したり。こうしたことを簡単にこなせるのは、必要な持ち物と荷造りの仕方がわかっているからこそ。旅慣れた彼女が極意を語る。

What are some of your favourite things to wear in the summer in New York? Since a beach doesn’t exist in New York City, you have to dress a little bit more urban. Denim on denim is a great way to go. I also love white pants – as does everyone else too. I love throwing a little sweater on top of denim... I always wear stripes during the summer, as well.

What’s your preference – travelling with a carry-on suitcase or checking a bag?, Do you have any rules that you live by when packing? I think you have to figure out what environment you’re going to and what your schedule is going to be like. It’s all about packing for what you will be doing while you’re away. Yet, I still like to carry basic pieces with me – like a pair of pants and a great T-shirt. Of course, always carry your accessories with you!

What are the items that you always like to have with you when travelling? On a plane I always have my phone charger, my

toiletries, all my accessories and jewelry. Let’s see… I also always have a great big cashmere sweater to wear because it keeps me warm. And I never leave home without my cashmere socks.

The summer’s hot and you always manage to look cool. How do you do it? I don’t know. I don’t know how I do it. I guess I’m lucky… or I really enjoy air conditioning! (Laughs)

Tell me about your approach to accessories. Do you have any rules of thumb? I love costume jewelry but when you are looking for an investment piece, try looking for an estate statement piece. It’s always a great way to go because that’s something you will have forever.

Do you hold on to your stuff? I do. I hold on to a lot and I have archives as well. I also give a lot away though. I give a lot to friends, so everything goes to good use.

夏のニューヨークでは、どんな服装が好きですか？ニューヨークにはビーチがないので、ちょっぴり都会的な服を着ます。デニムオンデニムなんかいいですね。白のパンツルックも大好き。誰だってそうだと思いますけど。それから、デニムパンツに小さめのセーターという組み合わせも気に入っています。夏には、ストライプ柄もよく着ます。

旅行の時の手荷物は、機内持ち込みと預け入れのどちらを好みますか？荷造りの際の決まりごとはありますか？旅行先の環境と旅程については自分でちゃんと把握しておくべきだと思います。荷造りは結局、旅行先で何をするかによって決まるから。でも、パンツや素敵なTシャツのようなベーシックなものは持って行きたいですね。当然ですが、アクセサリーは必ず持って行くべきです！

旅行に必ず持って行くものは何ですか？飛行機には、携帯の充電器と化粧品、アクセサリーやジュエリーは全部持ち込みます。それから、デニムパンツに小さめのセーターという組み合わせも気に入っています。 夏には、ストライプ柄もよく着ます。寒さ対策に大きめの

カシミアセーターも必ず持って行きます。それと、カシミアソックスも忘れません。

暑い夏でも、あなたはいつも涼しげにしています。その コツは？さあ。自分でもわかりません。日頃の行いがいいのか．．． それとも、エアコンを存分に満喫しているからかしら！（笑）

アクセサリーをどんなふうに使っているか教えてください。何かあなたなりの流儀みたいなものがありますか？私はコスチュームジュエリーが好きですが、もしジュエリーを投資の対象として考えているのだったら、ちゃんとした財産になるようなものにすべきでしょうね。ずっと持っておくものだから、そうした方が絶対良いと思います。

物持ちはいい方ですか？はい。手放さずにずっと持っているものはたくさんあって、保管場所もいくつかあります。でも、人にあげるものもたくさんあります。友達にたくさんあげるので、どれも有効利用されています。
