Noshin Aghajani (Ph.D)

Amir Rafati (MA)
Abstract
The presence and dominance of the media in the public and private arenas together with
distribution and production of meanings have led to publicity of the culture and other social aspects
of life. The media are not considered as a cultural or social institution. But, they provide a framework
in which culture, politics and society flow.
The current research is intended to study the role of Baran TV channel on promotion of native
culture in Gilan province. Four roles and functions of the media have been stressed which include:
being informative, education, entertainment and leisure and application in the routine life. The
questions and hypotheses include:
1- It seems Baran channel played role in reduction of intention to watch satellite TVs.
2- It seems Baran TV played role in creating belonging emotions to native values.
3- It seems Baran TV played role in accepting the native culture of Gilan for their youth.
The methodology is measurement by using materialized questionnaire distributed in Siahkal among
310 viewers of the Baran channel. The reliability coefficient and validity of the questionnaire were
verified by Chornbachs Alpha. The data was analyzed by using sampling t test.
The results indicated that three hypotheses were verified. We conclude that Baran TV managed to
satisfy its audiences despite some defects and limitations in functions of the above mentioned four
functions.

Abstract
The current research is intended to study and analyze the nature of theatre and its functions
and positon among the new media. Thus, we studied whether theatre is a medium with social
and relational nature. We attempted to study the issue through heuristic method. A qualitative
in depth method was used to describe the literature and objectives of the research together
with a bibliographical method for materializing the gathered data. The statistic community
includes seven professors and artists in the art and communication fields.
The results indicated that theatre is not so much regarded in our country. It is considered as a
phenomonon which has an important socialogical position with its social and communication
natures using the elements and functions of communication. It is inseperable from the
society. This point indicates the significance of theatre with its special position. Also, theatre
is not comparable to other media. It might seem that performing play on the radio or
television would remember theatre for the audiences. However, it is not really the theatre. In
our country, if the new media aopt more freedom for selecting the works with more variety
qualitatively or quantitatively, performing plays in this meium may make more audiences
interested than the theatre. Also, such culture may be accepted more among the audiences.
But, it seems we are so far away from this objective.

Authors: Dr. Hassan Darzian Rostami,
Mansoureh Mansouri Sadeh
Abstarct:
The aim of doing this research is to know about the role of globalization in the youth cultural
identity through focusing on internet and satellite. To this purpose, the viewpoints of theorists
such as Giddenz, Stuart Hall, Tajfel, Gerbner, McLuhan, Pierre Bourdieu, and Parsons were used
in this research paper. In this research, the degree of use of the new communication
technologies (satellite and internet) and the cultural identity have been considered as
independent variable and dependent variable in respect. In addition, survey and questionnaire
have been used to gather information from the participants. The statistical population includes
the students of psychology college of Central Tehran Campus of Islamic Azad University. The
sample population is 305 people which were chosen through available non-probable sampling.
The research data were analyzed through SPSS software, which brought up the following results:
- Compared with satellite, internet plays a bigger role in evolving the youth cultural
identity.
- Modern communication technologies do not play a negative role with regard to national
identity
- Modern communication technologies play a negative role with regard to religious
identity
- Modern communication technologies play a direct role in creating inter-generational
value gap
- Modern communication technologies play a direct role in persuading the youth into
western-style life
- Modern communication technologies generally play a negative role with regard to
cultural identity. They cause the youth to head toward the globalization which is on
agenda of capitalist and imperialist societies and keep away from their Iranian-Islamic
culture.
Key Terms: globalization, Modern Technologies, generation gap, cultural identity,
national identity, religious
