L’Ordre des Adjectifs

Most French adjectives follow the noun. Par exemple, le garçon blond & la maison blanche.But there are some adjectives that come before the noun, like in English.Some common ones, such as petit and grand, come before the noun. Par exemple, le petit garçon blond & la grande maison blanche. *We call these BANGS adjectives (the ones that come before the noun they describe). BANGS stands for Beauty, Age, Number, Goodness, Size.

The adjectives beau (beautiful), nouveau (new), and vieux (old) also come before the noun. They are BANGS adjectives. *Pay careful attention to both the spelling and the pronunciation of these adjectives. These adjectives have an extra form in case the noun that they describe is masculine, singular and starts with a vowel sound. (Kind of like, with possessive adjectives… if the word is feminine, singular and starts with a vowel, use mon, ton, son even though those are usually for the masculine forms.)
