EYP Cultural Week & Dance Concert

On the 15th of February, we celebrated Cultural Day and held a dance concert where our little wonders gave incredibly fantastic dance performances. Our little ones gave their little introduction of the dance forms with confident delivery before their performances and stole the audience’s hearts. They all looked impressive in colourful costumes, and their adorable dancing to the foot tapping music made the morning memorable. Flamenco dance of Spain was performed by the Playgroup and Nursery kids, México hat dance - Jarabe Tapatio was performed by the kids of K1 K2A kids danced on the Singaporean song “One Singapore” Kids of K2B danced on a traditional American song “Cotton Eye Joe”. After watching the Dance Concert, the parents visited the beautifully decorated classrooms, and they were stunned to see such spectacular work done by teachers and kids. All the classes looked child-friendly as more of kids work was displayed. Take away related to their respective countries were given to the kids as a fond memory of the cultural week. The entire week was celebrated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. This was observed to inculcate Unity in Diversity in our kids and make them aware of the diverse cultures in the world. Children had a potluck lunch; they bought different food items and shared with their friends and had a multi-cuisine lunch experience. All of them appreciated and enjoyed the varied cuisines of different nationalities.

Unity in Diversity was indeed the feeling that was imbibed and displayed by our little ones during this Cultural Week.

K2B

As the students of K2 are inquiring into the unit "Journeys, create change and can lead to new opportunities"

under the theme “Where we are in place and time”, the kids were asked to get photographs of their favourite

journey and share their experiences with their peers. It was an exciting and enriching experience.

Thank you each and every one for organising the concert so well, we all had the best time. Learning about different countries of world, their culture, their music, etc. . The concept of cultural week for kids is he best way to explain them. My kid from K2A Kiara Mehta learnt not only about the country which her class was doing, she enjoyed the tour were all the kids went in each class and learnt so many new cultures and places they haven’t heard of, also as they have learnt about new places now they are so excited to visit the countries they have not been yet, so again thanks to all the teachers for your efforts. Jini Mehta (mother of Heer Mehta) We are parent of Raaisha Moghay of Class K2-A. We really enjoyed the cultural week celebrations at school and wanted to appreciate all your effort. It is not only a very territorial educational program but also exposes child to the other side of the world at such a small age. Starting from class decoration to guest speakers to the local dance. Everything was great! Thanks Renu Moghay (mother of Raaisha Moghay)

PYP PYP Cultural Week 11 - 15 February, 2019

A Kaleidoscope of Colours, Music and Dance

Every year with great enthusiasm PYP students celebrate the cultural week-a creative week that allows students to

explore different cultures and traditions from around the world. It broadens their horizons and raises the students’

awareness of other communities.

It is the most anticipated event of the school calendar wherein at the beginning of the school year each PYP class

chooses a country to explore and showcase. The students learn about the customs, culture and language of the

place and decorate their class. On 13th February, parents were invited into our classrooms to see the display and

enjoy the potluck. It was a day where the primary school came together to learn about other cultures and

understand the diversity that exists in our world.

The week culminated with the Dance and Music concert on 15th February featuring music and dance from different

countries. Performed by over 250 students of the primary school each dance performance was well

choreographed. Students danced with poise and grace and dazzled on stage in their colourful costumes.

Thanks to all the teachers, children and parents for making the cultural week a great success. It was a real privilege

to walk around the school and see everyone working together to make learning an enjoyable experience for our

children.

PYP Grade 5A - Timeline on Technology

Timelines are graphic representations of the chronology of events in time. Students become more actively engaged in learning the sequence of events by constructing the timeline themselves. For the unit ‘How The World Works’, students of Grade 5A, made a creative timeline of any one gadget/ device themselves and showcased how technology and its role has changed and evolved over time. They used visual aids for identifying and recognizing how topics overlap in time. Timeline helped the students develop a long-range understanding of historic chronology.

PYP Grade 5A - PISA Reflection

The Pisa Exam was a very good experience. It was giving an examination without having to think it was an examination. It was fun and creative and I did not have a lot of trouble with it. I really liked the concept of an online examination, which as everyone (including me) in our class loves computers and I found it very unique and interesting to give an examination like this. This examination also assured me that examinations are not always hard. And in all I really liked the concept and way it was executed.

PYP Grade 5B - PISA Reflection

PISA exam is an exam of English and Math, it is an online exam were teachers can know how much we know. We had two math and English exam one was trial and one was final. The final one was quite hard than the trial exam. We had five practice questions in the start of the trial and the final exam. For me the PISA exams were a little hard. I really like the writing test because the first writing test I did was a creative writing were we had to build a story on a picture, the second writing test we wrote was a opinion writing were we had wrote our own opinion on a statement. The PISA exam was really fun and interesting to do and I think that the exam was amazing and mind-blowing.

Siddhi Gupta - Grade 5B This was my first experience of an online exam and it was fun. I learnt how to answer questions that are related to logic and reasoning. This improved my English and Maths both. Most of the questions in Maths were based on real-life which made it a little hard because we had to think a lot. Doing Math workings on the computer for some questions were hard for the first trial exam but then I got used to it. The English questions had most of comprehensions with questions which were quite easy. This test helped me in my typing skills and my timings. Although this was little difficult and I faced many challenges, my test went well. I think I could do much better in this exam.

Aarav Shah - Grade 5B This was our first online test. It was mind boggling. In total we finished 4 exams. They are: Writing task A, Writing task B, Mathematical Literacy Task, and English Reading Task. These tests could be even harder but was kind of easy. The test had many different types of problems. Most of the problems were real life problems. Well, I think online tests are way better than a paper pencil exam. I think an idea of an online test would make the test even more fun with real life pictures.

MYP Grade 8 - PISA Reflection

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a worldwide study by the 0rganisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Pisa examination is held in large number of schools around the globe to evaluate education systems of different schools . It gives me a lot of pride to say that our school has taken this golden opportunity for all the students of Grade 5 and Grade 8 to see where they stand in subjects like Mathematical Literacy, English writing, English reading, and Scientific literacy . In the examination the students were assessed on their basic knowledge about the various subjects. The PISA exams really boosted up our confidence level a lot . All in all the PISA exams were a great experience and it was also very fun filled and we got to learn a lot from it .

Mahzbin Maloo Grade 8

Our class Grade 8 was given a PISA exam which tested our general knowledge on three subjects: Math, English, and Science. Many students around the world also took part in this program. PISA allows us to see where we stand against the rest of the world. We can view our ranking and see what the standard is. Overall, this assessment was a really good experience and gave us an idea of where we may need improvement.

Malini Iyer Grade 8 Recently, I took my PISA tests, it was quite an experience. I had taken tests for 3 different subjects, those were English, Math and Science. Under that came English Reading, English Writing, Math A & B and Scientific Literacy. All the questions were fairly simple and straight forward, they were also very general and relied on our over all knowledge. The tests were taken online in our MYP Design Lab. For me, it was a new approach for taking an assessment online rather than on paper. The assessment didn't only check our knowledge in the particular subject but also gave us a brief understanding of how fast we type, knowing this could help us through other E- Assessments I would encourage the coming generations to take PISA exams as they help us know where we stand among everyone else in the world. It is also a good way to understand where we can improve and also where we went wrong.

MYP English Reflection: Proud to be a reader

In the present day we see a rapid decline in book reading habits among children. In an attempt to counter this, Grade 7 had a session, Proud to be a Reader, scheduled on 20th February. In this activity, we had to read a short story or a novel at home and talk about it in class. Each one of us presented a short summary followed by a discussion about some significant ideas in the book. The session improved our understanding about life, friendship, success, education and more general things in life through some stories which we all talked about. There was a lot of variety in the genre and categories of the tales and this aided us and played a major role in the session. This informative activity has helped us and has been a splendid success. I am certainly Proud to be a Reader.

Srushthi Linge Grade 7 On February 20, 2019 we had a special session in our English class titled, Proud to be a Reader. In this each one of us had to read either a novel or a short story written by a famous writer, and speak a few lines about the book and say if we are proud enough to be a reader. So we had this amazing session that was extremely successful and interesting. Each student came out with their chosen book and spoke a few lines about it and how proud he/ she was to be a reader. Every story was different and gave a different message, that we the readers read carefully and identified. Each message had a deep meaning that keep us all interested throughout the session. It was a wonderful session that was carried out really well by the whole of grade 7 and our enthusiastic English teacher. Therefore, after this awesome session my whole class and I can say with pride that, ‘WE ARE PROUD TO BE READERS!!’

IBDP IBDP1 Reflections

Reflection on Second Cycle Test Week

The MYP and the DP sections are currently sitting for the second semester cycle assessments which will last about a week. As a DP1 student, I have realized that the cycle assessments have become a lot tougher, and cover a wider portion of the syllabus. In my honest opinion, I don’t really think cycle assessments should be conducted for diploma students (any cheers?) as we already have plenty on our plate - with all sorts of plans and a myriad tasks to finish off! A lot of the students in our class have had to postpone working on the really important stuff like their English Written Tasks, and lab reports for the sciences. Seriously though, the IAs are very important component of the programme, challenging and time consuming, but ultimately rewarding. The whole week by itself has been quite a stressful one. However, they don’t call the IB rigorous for nothing. Going forward, managing one’s time to finish all the work assigned whilst being able to post decent grades will be a skill that will be invaluable to all students.

Tanay Shenoy IBDP 1

This was DP1’s second meeting with Callido and like the last time, it was eye-opening, fun and immersive. The sole purpose was to introduce us to the Extended Essay, a requisite for the IB Program. Callido is an educational resource made of teaching modules that makes learning easy and approachable. There were two speakers who wanted to guide us through the process starting at the very beginning - choosing a subject, topic, and research question. Since the Extended Essay is a base-level research paper, these three elements that lay its foundation are of utmost importance. Like they did in their last session, they started off with a game and within 5 minutes we learned about the DOs and DON’Ts of the EE. Since most of us had already chosen and finalized our subjects, we just went through the Subject-Specific EE Guides, filled in a form which further confirmed that this was what we wanted to write the 4000-word essay on. For me, that form helped narrow down my interests in the width of my subject, and helped recognize what about it was interesting to me. Then, the research question. The module regarding how to frame a research question was in-depth and went through all the requirements for an RQ that we wouldn’t have to change 5 months into the project, which was their main focus - how to stray away from a possible problem later on. All in all, it was a great experience and every second of it was helpful. They answered each question with patience and clarity. We’re appreciative of having help at this stage where other DP students probably have to fend for themselves, relying solely on their thinking.

IBDP Break the Stereotypes

I work hard as a bee in the day, without recognition and pay. I am used day and night, in books, and on screens to gain attention and pay. I can convince a man to buy the products I sell. But to buy what I want, I have to beg and pray. I wait for the day when my work will command respect and pay. When I control the wallets of those who use me today. Eureka!! I have found my freedom. I lead the military and the corporate world. Respect I had to demand, not just earn. But now I command and stand shoulder to shoulder with the men who once looked down upon me but now burn.
