Members of the parish are observing the Great Lent, a period of self-denial and

self-examination in preparation for the most glorious event in our spiritual life –

Easter.

The St. Michael’s Parish board extends sincere greetings to all the members of the

parish, Rev. Father Nicholas and Dobrojika Jeannette and their families on the

joyous occasion of Christ’s Glorious Resurrection.

Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

grandmothers in our community. Your spirit, wisdom and everlasting love is

I love YOU, MOM

A mother’s love is one of a kind. It begins before her child is born and continues

for a lifetime and beyond. The bond we share with her is the first and in many

ways the most important relationship we will ever experience with anyone. She is

the foundation of life and family. We have our beginning in her; nurtured by the

warmth of her caring, we thrive and grow in the knowledge that there is someone

who loves us unconditionally. Whatever our age or place in life, her voice is the

one we want to hear when we face difficult decisions. When we need comforting,

a part of us always longs to run back into the security of her loving embrace.

When something wonderful happens, the first person we want to share it with ….

is Mom.

Through the years, a mother’s heart becomes like a photo album, capturing all of

the “firsts” in our lives – from our very first smile, first tooth, and first step to all

of the major and minor milestones we experience on our way to becoming

independent adults. In her eyes, everything that we do is special and unique; she

can make even the smallest events seem like great achievements. Whether it’s a

spelling test that received a gold star, a construction-paper valentine, or a work of

art that decorated her refrigerator, she holds on to it forever. She is the keeper of

our memories – of family vacations, holidays, and birthdays that she could always

somehow transform into a perfect occasion. Most of all, she is the source of

wisdom that seems to blossom in our hearts as we mature and learn more about

life.

In her own remarkable way, a mother anchors us in our lives and gives our truest

sense of self. Her heart holds a range of emotions that can only grow through a

lifetime of caring: the deepest love, the strongest devotion, an occasional

frustration and disappointment. Above all, there is within her a profound

understanding and acceptance of who we are. She believes we can achieve any

dream; she will forgive us almost anything. For all she does, she never asks for

anything in return (though sometimes she receives a hug or a dandelion

bouquet). But the best way to thank her is just to say……….. I love You, Mom

Being a Mom is the greatest job in the world. Where else can you get a bonus

paid in hugs and kisses? Of course, the salary isn’t the greatest, but you’re

always assured of steady work.

May we all rejoice in the Resurrection of Christ and with it the mystery of our salvation. To all our parish

faithful, a very special Easter greeting. May the miracle of this Easter season bless you with good health,

happiness and prosperity.

Memorial Saturday

During the Great Lent, every Saturday is Soul

Saturday or Memorial Saturday when special

prayers are said for the deceased. A Memorial

Service (panahyda) was held on Saturday March 3rd

.

It is important for many of us to pray for the souls

of our deceased loved ones. After the panahyda

there was a fellowship with the sharing of blessed

food (kolachi and fruits). Attendance was less than

last year due to a heavy snowfall.

Bazaar

Our members worked at numerous food workshops,

preparing for the Easter bazaar of March 24th. Once

again it was well attended and very successful.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time

and skills to make all the delectable Ukrainian foods

so popular with the public. Some of our women are

extremely talented in making ornate paskas.

We also thank the men and women who came out

and supported our Bazaar. We hope that you were

pleased with your purchase and we look forward to

your continued patronage.

On the lighter side:

Kenny, my little grandson, came home from Sunday

school and I asked him what they had studied. His

reply was “Nothing”. So I asked him “Didn’t you

study Jesus?” Kenny’s reply was “No, he wasn’t

even there.

We will soon be sitting down to eat our paska, babkas, kubasa, eggs, cheese & horseradish. Enjoy your time with family and friends and for those who are travelling, have a safe & enjoyable journey.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who contributed and helped to make our Malanka & Puschenia an enjoyable time for the guests and a success for our society.

A huge thank you goes out to the wonderful people who have volunteered and worked the bingos in the last three months. Your time means funds in the church’s bank account.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are ill or not well, hoping your good health will return soon and you can get back to normal. Our next casino has been scheduled on Tuesday, JUNE 12TH and Wednesday, JUNE 13TH, 2018 at the Century Casino located at 13103 Fort Road.

This two day event will bring in much needed monetary funds. We are still needing to fill the following positions and would appreciate your help and commitment.

Days: 2 Cashiers, 3 Chip Runners

Evenings: 2 Cashiers, 4 Chip Runners Nights: 7 Count Room individuals

Please see RON or phone me @ 780-497-8852 and fill out a volunteer application. Family and friends are welcome to volunteer as well.
