• Oversees all aspects of player development / playing style for entire club

• Determines and develops ‘game plan’ for senior squad

• Directs coaching team consisting of Forwards / Backs / Guest coaches to achieve game plan goals

• Provides direction / leadership to define club development strategies

• Selects 1st and 2nd XV with key inputs to the Development and Social Teams

Coaching

Forwards / Backs Coach

• None ‘paid’ position within the club

• Elected / invited by the Head coach

• Inseminates ‘game plan’ / development targets into structured training sessions / techniques

• Provides match day support for Head coach / 1st & 2nd XV teams

• Inputs to team selection but no formal position within the committee

• Supports coaching sessions with Development / Social Team and actively participates with the development of the junior section

Senior Squad

• Combination of established players coupled with high potential individuals providing seamless integration between the 1st & 2nd XV

• Focused and structured training towards a common / totally interchangeable playing strategy between the 1st & 2nd XV

• Squad expected to train twice weekly

• Schedule to be split between focused development / player improvement and game scenario / ‘game managed’ sessions

• Goal to develop players and club simultaneously

• 2nd XV removed from Merit League and target teams to offer greater competition and potential for new players

1st / 2nd XV Captains

• Responsible for all on the field match day activities

• Provides leadership and control to implement defined playing strategy / game plan

• Actively involved in defining and openly supports / encourages / develops agreed playing styles

• Supports selection decisions publicly to present common committed ‘management’ strategy

• Provides key input to player progression and development needs

• 2nd XV Captain NOT available for 1st XV selection

Development Team Captain

• Considered ‘Key’ role in the long term development of the club

• Nurture ‘high potential’ players progression to the Senior Squad

• Liaise with the Head Coach in supporting players needs who exit the Senior squad

• Promote and drive the clubs development strategy and ensure squad understands its key importance within the structure

• Ensures the greater good of the club is the main focus of the team

Social Team Captain

• Actively encourages players to strive towards the Development team and beyond

• Promotes the ‘club’ positively and where possible adopts the ‘game plan’ mentality within the team

• Key driver of maintaining the social / fun aspects of Rugby

• The ‘heart beat’ of what makes Aston the club it is

DEVELOPMENT ROLE / GOALS

The Role

• Responsible for identifying and bringing new players to the club

• Reporting to the committee but with direction & facilitation from the Head Coach

• Using Brochures / Business cards / etc to promote AOERFC

• Managing a volunteer group of ‘Spotters’ to assist

The Expectation

• Be seen as an ambassador for AOERFC

• Positively promote the club at all levels, Junior and Senior

• Deliver a regular flow of players to further strengthen the club

The ‘Key’ Goals – Next 3 Months

• Recruit key named players / positions as identified by the Head Coach

• Further strengthen the relationship between AOE and Birmingham Bulldogs

• Strive to establish a Junior Development side for start of 2010 / 11 season targeting U17, U19 or U21

• Develop marketing material to promote AOE – Business Cards / Hand-Book / Leaflets etc

• Further develop existing relationships with local Universities and Colleges ensuring that BCU continue to use the facility and support our player pool

• Identify funding to continue the role into 2010 / 11 and beyond

• Generate appropriate media coverage relating to the expansion of AOE facilities and Development Plans

• Recruit a group of volunteers who can assist in meeting the goals

• Explore every avenue / opportunity to make AOE
