GeelongGeelong is Victoria’s second largest city located on the shores of beautiful Corio Bay – only 55 minutes by car or train from Melbourne on the southwest coast.

Geelong is a vibrant university town offering international students a friendly, safe and enjoyable lifestyle. The city has exceptional facilities for its student population including an affordable cost of living, central and suburban shopping areas, restaurants catering to all budgets, and world-class cultural, recreational and sporting events.

The Geelong region is also the gateway to some of Victoria’s spectacular natural attractions such as the Great Ocean Road and bushland with kangaroos. With blue skies and world famous beaches, Geelong provides an authentic Australian experience.

International students will enjoy the city’s vibrant waterfront area, cinemas and theatres as well as local galleries and libraries conveniently located within a 15-minute walk from The Gordon’s City Campus.

Geelong enjoys relatively moderate weather throughout the year. Winter (June – August) is cool with an average temperature of 13 degrees (Celsius), while summer (December – February) is warm with an average temperature of 25 degrees.

Geelong has everything you need to make your Australian study experience enjoyable.

The GordonEstablished in 1887, The Gordon is one of Australia’s largest regional TAFE institutes, and is renowned for providing quality education which delivers real results.

We excel at hands-on learning and take pride in our graduates being work-ready. In fact, our graduates achieve a higher employment rate than the Geelong average.

Our international students gain real skills and experience that can lead to an exciting and rewarding career. We work closely with many employers in the region to provide work experience and networking opportunities for students.

English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)General English coursesOur General English course is designed to improve English fluency and language skills in a wide variety of situations. This course is divided into three levels – Elementary, Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate. English for Academic Purposes coursesStrong English language skills are essential for success in all Gordon courses. Our English for Academic Purposes course provides the opportunity to improve English language proficiency in preparation for further study in Australia. This course is delivered at two levels: Upper-Intermediate and Advanced.

Lila – Brazil“I came to Australia with an important aim: to improve my English and I achieved it but more than that I had the opportunity to meet new friends from a lot of countries. All of us, (teachers and students) had a really nice chance to learn more about each culture, people and manners.

Learning English at The Gordon was a great experience for me, because I learned more than grammar, listening, reading and speaking. This changed my understanding about life in this lucky country . Also as I had the opportunity to know more about different cultures, I can live wherever I want in the future.”

Vitor – Portugal“When I arrived in Australia in 2012 my communication skills were very basic. I enrolled in twenty weeks of English language classes and also began studying the Diploma of Building and Construction and a Diploma of Building Surveying. The course enabled me to familiarise myself with local laws and regulations, and prepared me to work in the Australian

construction industry. I was also able to further develop my interpersonal and leadership skills and develop some very close friendships.

Today I am working as a building supervisor and am tasked with managing all of the trades in multiple sites. Evidently, the skills and attributes that I learned at The Gordon have helped me. I started learning about the building industry when I was very young when I went to construction sites with my father during the school holidays, and now, in my thirties I am still continuing to learn and adapt to new situations and challenges.”

Vitor Catarino, ELICOS, Building & Construction and Building Surveying, 2012
