St Petersburg lies on the Neva River

in Russia. It was built 300 years ago by

a Russian Czar Peter the Great, after

whom the city was named. In 1941, the

Germans tried to destroy the city,

they burned most of the palaces,

pulled down many buildings, and

broke a lot of the statues. However,

the people in this city never gave in.

They fought against the Germans,

and when the Nazis had gone, they

rebuilt the city by their hard work

and talent, using the old drawings as

instruction. The city we see today

was recreated by the people of this

city, so we say it is the people in this

city who are the modern heroes of

Russia.

How can we change a sentence

with active voice into passive voice?

1. Find out the Object of the sentence

and use it as the Subject of the

sentence with passive voice.

2. Decide the tense of the sentence and

use the related form of its passive

voice.

3. If necessary, use “by” to join the

former Subject, which should be put

into its object form.

4. Change the form of the verb into

“has/have been + past participle”.
