The raiders first targeted a car in a car park behind the shop at the junc- tion of Commons Road and Popham’s Road, and stole some items from it. They then broke into the charity shop and also took some items from Woman in overhead apartment flees from blaze Gardaí, an ambulance crew and three fire crews rushed to the scene after the woman’s call for help. The woman had managed to escape without life-threatening injuries but was taken by ambulance to the Mercy University Hospital for treatment. One man was in custody today after the incident. His alleged accomplice remained at large, as gardaí tried to establish the motive for the incident. Gardaí said this morning that one man was arrested at the scene. A forensics examination was carried out at the scene. Gardaí handed out leaflets to motorists who passed through the Compass Quay area between 9.45pm and 11pm last night. They also targeted motorists in the area during the same time on Wednesday night, while door-to-door enquiries are also being conducted in the locality. Continued on page two.
