7月 25日是聖長雅各伯宗徒的瞻禮，我們堂區的主保聖人。誰
是聖雅各伯呢？為什麼稱他為「長」呢？
十二位宗徒之中，有兩位叫雅各伯。其中一位稱為「長」，可
能由於他是年紀較大那位。次雅各伯和他的兄弟若瑟是克羅帕
的妻子瑪利亞的兒子。長雅各伯是耶穌所愛的門徒 — 若望宗
徒的兄弟。他們是載伯德的兒子，母親是撒羅默。她與克羅帕
的妻子瑪利亞和瑪利亞瑪達肋納跟隨着基督，直到祂的十字架
旁。（瑪 27：56；谷 15：40；若 19：25）撒羅默就是請求耶
穌在祂的王國內讓雅各伯和若望坐在祂左右的那個母親。（瑪
20：20）撒羅默可能是聖母瑪利亞的一個姊妹，所以雅各伯和
若望可能是耶穌的表兄弟，故也稱為祂的兄弟，這也可能就是
撒籮默那個請求的原因。
來自加里肋亞的雅各伯和若望與安德肋和伯多祿本是漁夫，卻是首批被耶穌召叫作「漁人的漁
夫」的門徒。（瑪 4：18—22；谷 1：16—20；路 5：1—11）伯多祿、雅各伯和若望在十二宗
徒中占一個特殊的地位：在復活雅依洛的女兒的奇蹟中，耶穌只叫他們三人在場；（谷 5：
37；路 8：51）他們是耶穌顯聖容的見證；（瑪 17：1；谷 9：2；路 9：28）耶穌在革責瑪尼
園感到驚懼恐怖時，他們是最接近祂的三個人。（瑪 26：37；谷 14：33）可能由於他們的狂
熱和脾氣，耶穌稱雅各伯和若望為「雷霆之子」。（谷 3：17）他們阻止一個非耶穌門徒的人
以耶穌的名字驅魔；（路 9：49）當撒瑪黎雅人不收留耶穌時，他們更想叫火自天降來焚燬他

雅各伯是第一位殉道的宗徒，公元 44年，猶大王黑落德亞格黎帕命人用劍殺死他。（宗 12：
1—2）傳説雅各伯曾到西班牙宣講，他死在猶大後，屍體奇蹟地轉移到西班牙的西北部，現今
的 Santiago de Compostela。在那處興建的宏偉的主教大殿於 1211年被祝聖，現已被列入世界
遺產之一。直到今天，此地仍為一個主要的朝聖中心，朝聖者沿着 Camino de Santiago，即
「聖雅各伯之道」徒步前往，要花上幾個月的時間。

取消每月第二及第四主日上午 9時在聖母小堂英文彌撒，7月 1日生效。
每主日上午 10時 30分在樓上聖堂的中文彌撒，改回上午 10時，9月 1日生效。

張神父 7月 7日往底特律市 (Detroit) 進修至 8月 9
日星期五。請為他祈禱。這段時間，平日 (星期一至
三)上午 9時彌撒，主日 (7/21, 7/28, 8/4) 彌撒由宋
永聖神父及 Fr. David Taurasi 替代，多謝他們。
新慕道班每星期日上午 9:30 在神父住所上課。如有親

Important: Changes to 2019 Mass Schedule
* After review & prayerful deliberation St. James has made the following changes:
- Effective July 1, the 9 a.m. Mass in English on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of each month in Our Lady's Chapel has been canceled. - Effective September 1, the 10:30 a.m. Mass in Chinese in the Upper Church will be changed back to 10 a.m.
July 25 is the Feast Day of the Apostle St. James the Greater, the patron saint of our parish. So, who was St. James, and why was he the Greater? Among the twelve apostles, there were two who were named James. One of them was called the Greater probably because he was the older of the two. (Mk 15:40) James the Less and his brother named Joseph were the sons of Mary of Cleophas. James the Greater was the brother of the Apostle John, the beloved disciple. They were the sons of Zebedee. Their mother was Salome. Together with Mary of Cleophas and Mary Magdalene, she followed Christ to His Cross. (Mt 27:56; Mk 15:40; Jn 19:25) Salome was the mother who asked Jesus to let James and John sit at His right and left in His kingdom. (Mt 20:20) There is a possibility that Salome was a sister of the Blessed Virgin Mary. So, James and John would be the first cousins of Jesus, hence, also His brothers. That might also be the reason for Salome’s request. Originally fishermen from Galilee, James and John together with Andrew and Peter were the first disciples called by Jesus to become “fishers of men”. (Mt 4:18-22; Mk 1:16-20; Lk 5:1-11) Peter, James and John held a special position among the twelve. Only the three of them were present at the miracle of the raising of the daughter of Jairus. (Mk 5:37; Lk 8:51) They witnessed the Transfiguration. (Mt 17:1; Mk 9:2; Lk 9:28) They were the closest to Jesus during His Agony in the Garden of Gethsemani. (Mt 26:37; Mk 14:33) Jesus called James and John “sons of thunder” probably because of their zeal and temper. (Mk 3:17) They stopped a man who was not a follower of Jesus from exorcising in His name. (Lk 9:49) When the Samaritans did not welcome Jesus, they even wanted to call down fire to consume them! (Lk 9:54) James was the first of the Apostles to be martyred. In 44 AD, king of Judea, Herod Agrippa, had him killed by the sword. (Acts 12:1-2) Tradition has it that James had preached in Spain. After his death in Judea, his body was miraculously moved to what is currently Santiago de Compostela in the northwest of Spain. The magnificent cathedral built there was consecrated in 1211, now a World Heritage Site. To this day, it is still a major center of pilgrimage where many pilgrims take months to travel there on foot along the Camino de Santiago, meaning the Way of St. James. Fr. Joseph Zhang departed on 7/7 for Detroit for study through Friday 8/9. Please pray for him. In his absence, the regular week day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at 9 a.m.) Masses and the Sunday (7/28, 8/4) Masses will be covered by Fr. Peter Song and Fr. David Taurasi. We thank them for the assistance.
