Tense in Englishİngilizce dilbilgisinin en önemli öğesi zaman konusudur, çünkü diğer tüm konular ya direkt ya da dolaylıolarak zamanlarla ilişkilidir. Tense’ler bir cümledeki eylemin geçmişte mi, mevcut zamanda mı yoksagelecekte mi yapılacağı hakkında bilgi verir. Tense kavramına ek olarak bir de Aspect vardır. Bu kavramise cümledeki eylemin sürekli mi yoksa belirli bir süreç içerisinde mi yapıldığı hakkında bilgi verir.

Tense kavramı cümlenin içerisindeki eylemin ne zaman yapıldığına işaret eder. Temel olarak 3 tane Tensevardır; Past, Present ve Future.

Aspect kavramı ise cümlede yapılan eylemin süreklimi, kısa bir süreliğine mi yoksa iki zaman arasında mıyapıldığı hakkında bilgi verir.

a. Simple: cümle içerisindeki eylemin sürekli yapıldığını vurgular.

Eylem geçmişte sürekli yapılmış ancak şimdi yapılmıyor ise: Past Simple,I slept at 10 o’clock when I was a child.10

Eylem hem geçmişte, hem şimdi, hem de gelecekte yapılacak ise; present simple,I sleep at 12 o’clock every day.11

Eylem gelecekte sürekli yapılacak ise; Future Simple.I will sleep at 11 o’clock when I start to work.12

b. Continuous: cümledeki eylemin belirli bir süreliğine yapıldığını vurgular.

Eylem geçmişte belirli bir zaman aralığında yapılmış ise; Past Continuous,I was watching TV from 8 to 10 yesterday.13

Eylem sadece içinde bulunduğumuz zaman diliminde yapılıyor ise; Present Continuous,I am watching tv now.14

Eylem gelecekte belirli bir zaman aralığında yapılacak ise; Future Continuous.I will be watching tv from 8 to 10 tomorrow.15

c. Perfect: cümledeki eylemin iki zaman aralığında yapıldığını ya da bir eylemin diğer eylemden önceyapıldığını vurgular.

Eylem geçmişte başka bir eylemden daha önce yapılmış ise; Past PerfectI had finished my work before Ahmet came.16

Eylem geçmişte başlayıp günümüze kadar gelmiş ise; Present PerfectSince we met, she has worked in the same school.17

Eylem gelecekte belirli bir eylemden daha önce yapılacak ise; Future Perfect.I will have finished my homework by the time my mother comes.18

10 Çocukken her zaman saat 10 da uyurdum. Geçmişte Sürekli: Past Simple11 Her gün saat 12 de uyurum. Mevcut zamanda Sürekli: Present Simple12 Çalışmaya başladığımda saat 11 de uyuyacağım. Gelecekte Sürekli: Future Simple13 Dün saat 8 den 10’a kadar TV izliyordum. Geçmişte belirli bir süre: Past Continuous14 Şu anda TV izliyorum. e. Type 0 and Type 1 Conditional clausesType 0 ve Type 1 Koşul cümlelerinde

f. Time clausesZaman cümleciklerinde; özellikle Future tense’nin bulunduğu zamancümlelerinde bağlacın bulunduğu cümlede kullanılır.

Not: Involuntary actions such as senses; feel, look, smell, taste, hear, see etc

Verbs expressing emotions; like, hate, fear, love, respect, wish etc.I appreciate your struggle.

Mental activities; agree, understand, assume, remember, expect, trust, suppose,realize, recognize etc. I agree with you on this matter.

Possession verbs; have, belong, possess, own.

Bu tür fiiller continuous tense’lerde kullanılmazlar. Bu tür herhangi bir çaba ya daenerji sarf etmeden oluşan eylemler konuşma anında dahi meydana gelmiş olsaPresent Simple Tense ile kullanılırlar.

Kullanıma. The present perfect continuous is very similar in meaning to the present perfect

simple tense. We use it to talk about actions started in the past, but is stillhappening. Duration of the action is emphasized.Anlam olarak Perfect Simple ile aralarında büyük bir fark yoktur. Extra notes!Past simple is not necessarily to be used in the past. - 2 actions happened in the past- The action that happened earlier is emphasized by Past Perfect.

Tense Agreement in time clause “zaman uyuşması”

Diğer tüm dillerdeki gibi İngilizce dilbilgisinde de her yapı belirli bir kural dâhilinde işler.Örneğin bağımsız iki cümleyi birleştirmek için belirli kurallar vardır ve bu kurallaroluşturulan yeni cümlenin türüne göre değişiklik gösterir.

Zamancümleciği oluşturulurken göz önünde bulundurmamız gereken en önemli kuralTense Agreement “Zaman Uyuşması”dır.Bu kurala göre aralarında zaman ilişkisi bulunan iki bağımsız cümleyi herhangi birzaman bağlacı ile bağlayarak bağımsız tek bir cümle yapmak için; bu iki farklıcümle arasında hem Tense hem de Aspect uyumu olmalıdır.

Tense uyumu: Zaman bağlacı ile bağlanan iki bağımsız cümle aynı Tense göreçekimlenmek zorundadır. Yani birinci cümle Past ise ikinci cümle de Past olmalıdır.

İki cümleyi bağlamak için kullanılan artı işareti “+” çok önemli bir imgedir.Time Clauses “Zaman Cümlecikleri” yaparken bu artı işaretinin yerine “zaman bağlaçları”kullanılır ve bu BAĞLAÇLAR ise iki cümle arasındaki Aspect uyumunu belirler.

Aspect uyumu: Zaman bağlacı ile bağlanan iki bağımsız cümle arasındaki öncelik,sonralık, aynı andalık ve biri devam ederken diğerinin o olayı kesmesi gibi özellikleriiçinde barındırır. Bu kural ise cümleleri birleştiren bağlaca göre şekillenir.
