Introductory Stuff This will be a relatively interactive

Lectures Lectures are important Attendance is compulsory
Both at lectures and at tutorials
Not everything will be in the slides! Some additional, essential information will
only be presented during the lectures
We will also have surprise quizzes! We may have other surprises!

Course Objectives General introduction to computers Opportunity to gain some experience with
some popular computer applications You will (probably) not become an expert Primary objective is to gain familiarity with
the capabilities of these resources It is hoped that you can later apply your
knowledge and use computers profitably

Upon completion of the course, you should be able to: Understand computer organization
(number systems, data representation, machine instruction cycle)
Present ideas in different contexts with appropriate publishing software tools
Use desktop and web publishing (And not just the most “popular” software!)
Formulate strategies for purchasing, installing and maintaining computer systems
