1/11 Milli Eitim Bakanl Mehmet Akif Ersoy Primary School Malatya 2/11 3/11 A TURKISH MYTH ABOUT SUN GNE : THE SUN AY : THE MOON 4/11 Moon and Sun motifs occupy a special place in the Turkish mythology, Turks assigned great significance to astronomic objects who had the belief of Gk-Tanr (Sky-God) in the Pre-Islam Period. They used to believe that God was in the sky and the astronomic objects had divine powers. Abstract 5/11 Turks used to say the sun Mother sun and Father moon. Because of this reason in many legends and myths the sun acted female and moon was male. 6/11 Once upon a time neither sun nor moon was on the sky. People were flying and spreading light and heat. They needed neither sun nor moon. 7/11 One day these flying people got sick. Noone could treat them. And the God Tengry (Sky-God) sent them a thing 8/11 This thing seemed like a burning mirror in the sky. The mirror began to grow. Its light covered all over the sky. At the end it was seperated into two parts. They became THE SUN and THE MOON. They shone and people felt very well themselves. 9/11 One day God Tengry got angry with human beings. He punished and sent them to the Earth. He left them in dark. People couldnt fly or light any more. All the people prayed and begged to the God Tengri. He accepted their pray and ordered the Sun and the Moon to shine for Earth forever. 10/11 Coordinator : engl ARSLAN Phone Number : MAE Primary School
