Pat Robertson wrote;

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, is a command for the personal benefit to each citizen. Our minds, spirits, and bodies demand a regular time of rest. Perhaps God’s greatest gift to mankind’s earthly existence is the ability to be free from work one day a week.”

(The New World Order, Pg. 236)

Pope John Paul II -- Dies Domini # 16

“The commandment of the Decalogue by which God decrees the Sabbath observance is formulated in the Book of Exodus in a distinctive way: ‘Remember the Sabbath day in order to keep it holy’ (20:8).

Page 6: 12 sabba (1)

Pope John Paul II -- Dies Domini

“And the inspired text goes on to give the reason for this, recalling as it does the work of God: "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy" (v. 11). Before decreeing that something be done, the commandment urges that something be remembered.”

Pope John Paul II -- Dies Domini

“It is a call to awaken remembrance of the grand and fundamental work of God which is creation, a remembrance which must inspire the entire religious life of man and then fill the day on which man is called to rest. Rest therefore acquires a sacred value: the faithfulare called to rest not only as God rested, but to rest in the Lord, bringing the entire creation to him, in praise and thanksgiving, intimate as a child and friendly as a spouse.”

Dr. James Kennedy, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale FL, 11 /4 / 2001“God so loved the human race that He gave us the Sabbath. In fact, before the state, before the church, before even the family, the first institution that God gave to mankind was the Sabbath. Having created the heavens and the earth and all things therein, he rested on the seventh day and blessed the seventh day and hallowed it. And He commands us to keep it as such, because He loves us. And if we love Him we will love His Sabbath.”

“The Sabbath, the first institution given to man, is one that is vitally important. It is the longest commandment of the ten, more words dedicated to that throughout the rest of the scripture, mentioned more than virtually any other, and it was a very serious matter. God intended us to keep it.”

Christianity Today editorial, November 2003

“Our churches and families need to return to a Sabbath consciousness that can provide a platform for countercultural witness.”

Page 62: 12 sabba (1)

13. Who, or what power, is

represented by

the little horn?

The Roman Papacy

Page 63: 12 sabba (1)

(a) The Papacy was established during the rule of Rome, the fourth beast.

(b) It was seen after the division of Rome into the ten kingdoms of Europe.

(c) It was not a major power at first, but over time grew,

(d) eventually supplanting 3 kingdoms (Heruli in 493, Vandals in 534, Ostrogoths in 538).

Page 64: 12 sabba (1)
Page 65: 12 sabba (1)

13. Who, or what power is represented by the little horn?

(e) The ten kingdoms that came out of the Roman Empire were political kingdoms. But the Papacy combined religious and political authority.

(f) The leader of the Papacy is a man whose title is the Pope.

Page 66: 12 sabba (1)

13. Who, or what power is represented by the little horn?

(g) The Papacy claims to have the authority to change divine law. “The Pope is of so great authority and power, that he is able to modify, declare, or interpret even divine Laws.” (emphasis supplied) (Source: Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca “Papa,” article 2).

Page 67: 12 sabba (1)

13. Who, or what power is represented by the little horn?

(h) The saints would be persecuted for time, times, and the dividing of times. In a parallel prophecy, Revelation 12:6 and 13:5 shows this period to be 42 months, or 1260 days, or literal years (a prophetic day is a literal year; see Ezekiel 4:6). From 538 AD, when the last of the three horns were “plucked up,” to 1798 AD, when the Pope was arrested and exiled by French general Berthier, the Papacy persecuted and killed thousands of Christians who would not submit to its authority.

Page 75: 12 sabba (1)
Page 76: 12 sabba (1)

13. Who, or what power is represented by the little horn?

(i) Pompous, or blasphemous words would be: (1) Man claiming to forgive sins; see Mark 2:7 (2) Man taking the place of God; see John 10:33.

The Papacy does both: “The priest holds the place of the Saviour himself, when, by saying ‘Ego te absolvo,’ he absolves from sin.” (Duties and Dignities of the Priest, by Liguori, pg. 27) “All names which in Scripture are applied to Christ, by virtue of which it is established that he is over the church, all the same names are applied to the Pope.” (On the Authority of Councils, book 2, chapter 17, 1619 edition) “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (The Great Encyclical Letters of Leo XIII, page 304)

Page 77: 12 sabba (1)

14. What law and time did the little horn attempt to change?

God’s Ten Commandment Law

Page 78: 12 sabba (1)

a. God’s Ten Commandment law.

The Roman church “modified” the law by eliminating the second commandment and splitting the tenth commandment in order to still have ten. The fourth commandment is moved up to third, and the reference to Sabbath being the seventh day is removed.
