The Roman Papacy

(e) The ten kingdoms that came out of the Roman Empire were political kingdoms. But the Papacy combined religious and political authority.

(f) The leader of the Papacy is a man whose title is the Pope.


(g) The Papacy claims to have the authority to change divine law. “The Pope is of so great authority and power, that he is able to modify, declare, or interpret even divine Laws.” (emphasis supplied) (Source: Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca “Papa,” article 2).


(h) The saints would be persecuted for time, times, and the dividing of times. In a parallel prophecy, Revelation 12:6 and 13:5 shows this period to be 42 months, or 1260 days, or literal years (a prophetic day is a literal year; see Ezekiel 4:6). From 538 AD, when the last of the three horns were “plucked up,” to 1798 AD, when the Pope was arrested and exiled by French general Berthier, the Papacy persecuted and killed thousands of Christians who would not submit to its authority.
