Approximately 9.1 million litres of saw guide oil are sold every year in the U.S

There are over 400 sawmills in Canada and over 1100 in the U.S

    Background

Purpose of Saw Guide Oil In order for a sawmill to become more efficient, saws have

    become much thinner.

These thinner saws require guides to be placed on either sideof the saw to maintain cutting accuracy and to restrain the sawfrom wandering off line.

Saw guide oil operates as the lubricant between the saw and sawguides.

Without proper lubrication, the saws would overheat, causingdistortion in the saw

Leads to inaccuracies in the cut and therefore a lose inrecovery

    Causes costly unscheduled saw changes

A good saw guide oil will reduce a sawmills maintenance costs

    and increase recovery and profitability

    Petroglide

Superior Tackiness In order to eliminate the subjectivity and

human error in defining tackiness, the

    following test method was developed

Test oil is siphoned through a nozzle

under a vacuum. The tackiness is defined

as the percent of test oil that is siphoned

out before the string of oil breaks

The XP90 was determined to be verytacky relative to other competitors

Petroglide 100 and 150 were shown to bevery tacky especially in comparison tocompetitors such as Esso.

    Superior EP Weld Load

4 Ball Weld Test demonstrates the ability of alubricant to minimize wear under heavy loads.

The XP90 has an EP weld load of 400kg. The more wear on the saw the greater chance of heatbuildup and distortion.

    Causing decreased recovery

    Increased standard deviation

More downtime due to increased saw and guide changes

    Enhanced Lubricity

Due to the vegetable oil contained in the XP90, it hasgreater lubricity

    Low Pour Point

Lower pour point of the XP90 at -48C helps keep

    blades cutting year round

Environmental Advantage All Petroglides are formulated from Petro-Canada HT

    Severely Hydrocracked base oils

Low levels of DBD and DBFs (Dibenzodioxin, Dibenzofuran,

    15 parts per billion) Non-toxic

    All Petroglides are Ashless

This keeps heavy metals out of the environment

    Petroglide XP90 is inherently biodegradable

    Petroglide Testimonial

Excerpts Sawmill #1 Previously, we had been changing 18-20 saw guides a

day. But with Petro-Canada, because their saw guide oils

protect the guides better and keep the saws cuttingaccurately longer, we have been able to reduce it to only 3-4

    changes per day.

We used to consume 327 litres of oil daily when we

operated all of our saws on a two-shift basisBut with thehelp of Petroglide and the Petro-Canada service team, weve

been able to cut our oil consumption down to 102 litres per

two shifts. Thats a reduction of 68 per cent.

    Petroglide Testimonial

    Excerpts Sawmill #2

we rely on Petroglide to prevent this kind of unnecessary

downtime from happening by reducing the friction that causes the

saws to overheat and distort. Petro-Canadas service team hashelped us greatly to reduce the number of saw guide changes we

make in a day. Currently, were averaging about six saw guide

changes per 24-hour shift. Thats quite an impressive figure, when

you consider that we have 36 saw blades running continuously.

weve tried putting other saw guide oils in our system andmeasuring the results, but weve never had anything perform as

well as Petroglideit is tacky enough to cling to the blade and

strong enough to prevent our saws from experiencing undue wear.
