Gene Regulation and Signal TransductionGene Regulation and Signal Transduction
The main research of gene reulation and signal transduction include: (1) Mechanism studies on Sp1 as an anchor protein in gene transcription ; (2) Endoplasmic reticulum stress: signal pathways in cancer transformation ; (3) Membrane signaling in cellular stress: Fas/FasL, low substratum rigidity, ceramide and etoposide ; (4) Gene expression and signaling pathway regulating fear conditioning and synaptic plasticity.
Collaborated Institutes: 1. Biosignal Research Center, University of Kobe (Japan) 2. University of Washington (Dr. Nelson Fausto; USA) 3. University Laboratory of Physiology, Oxford (Dr. J.C. Ellory; UK)
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 高醫 (Kaohsiung Medical
Univ.), 中興 (National Chung Hsing Univ.)…etc.
11
Ocean Environment and Engineering Technology Ocean Environment and Engineering Technology
The ocean resources are so abundant and diversified in Taiwan that make its environment quite unique by comparing to the global areas.
Current Research Conditions
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU) cooperates to widen and deepen their research scale.
(1) Improvement study on the structure of Marine Cage Net
(2) The Development of the Key Technique and System Integration for the Anti-current Underwater Remotely Operative Vehicle.
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 中山 (National Yat-Sen Univ.),
東華 (National Dong Hwa Univ.) …etc.
12
Frontier Materials and Micro/Nano System Technology
The development of science and technology is based on the invention and manufacturing of the frontier materials as well as the integration of the system. It is well recognized that the Micro/Nano technology is the core industry in the new century.
Distinguished international collaborators include:
Professor Chung-Chiun Liu of Case Western Reserve University
Professor Chih-Ming Ho of UCLA
Professor Anthony P.F. Turner of Cranfield University U.K. Involved Universities and Colleges:
大葉大學 (Da-Yeh Univ.), 南台科大 (Southern Taiwan Univ. of Technology), 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 中山 (National Yat-Sen Univ.), 中興 (National Chung Hsing Univ.), 雲科大 (National Yunlin Univ. of Technology)…etc.

Cardiovascular Research Cardiovascular Research
Current Research Conditions (1) Organizing a Vascular Biology Program Project and performed the highest-level of cardiovascular research from 2002 in collaboration with scientists from the National Taiwan University, National Yang-Ming University and Academia Sinica from the support of Ministry of Education. (2) The research team includes:
• basic cardiovascular science team, non-invasive cardiology team, arrhythmia research team and, cardiovascular clinical trial team.
Heart and blood disease is listed the top ten causes of death in Taiwan. Curing and prevention of the disease are the critical issue of medical research.
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 高醫 (Kaohsiung Medical
Univ.) …etc.
14
Cognitive and Digital Life Designs Cognitive and Digital Life Designs
Fully utilizing computer, communication, consumer electronics, and contents of 4C technologies, this Center combines cognitive technology as well as architectural and industrial designs to integrate physical living and virtual abstraction spaces to achieve connection, comfort, convenience, and completion of 4C creative media living environments.
Involved Universities and Colleges:
大葉大學 (Da-Yeh Univ.), 南台科大 (Southern Taiwan Univ. of Technology), 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 東華 (National Dong Hwa Univ.), 中興 (National Chung Hsing Univ.), 虎尾科大 (National Formosa Univ.), 嘉南科大 (Chia Nan Univ. of Pharmacy and Science), 樹德科大 (Shu-Te Univ.)…etc.
15
Advanced Optoelectronic TechnologyAdvanced Optoelectronic Technology
Relentlessly promoting the “Two Trillion, Two Stars Industries” project has become one of latest endeavors by the Taiwanese government.
In particular, the optoelectronics industry truly stands out among others based on its exceptional performance records; almost ensuring Taiwan a golden opportunity to become a Kingdom of Optoelectronics in a near future.
The Southern Taiwan Science and Technology Park, which is close to the National Cheng Kung University, is widely considered as one of most influential bases for optoelectronics industry in Taiwan.
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 永達技院 (Yung Ta Institute
of Technology and commerce), 南台科大 (Southern Taiwan Univ. of Technology), 中山 (National Yat-Sen Univ.), 中興 (National Chung Hsing Univ.), 高雄大學 (National University of Kaohsiung)…etc.
16
Sustainable Environment TechnologySustainable Environment Technology
The environment at central and south Taiwan is highly polluted and risked by transitional and high technically industrial areas, debris flows, waste materials, polluted soils and oxidize reservoir and is desirable to be solved by an excellent research team.
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 中山 (National Yat-S
en Univ.), 中興 (National Chung Hsing Univ.), 高雄大學(National University of Kaohsiung), 台南大學 (National Univ. of Tainan), 東華 (National Dong Hwa Univ.), 虎尾科大 (National Formosa Univ.), …etc.
17
Earth Dynamic System Research Earth Dynamic System Research
To read correctly of climate change in the past using proxy records in geological samples and compare with present day observations using advanced facilities.
To gain a better projection of possible climatic trend in the future and obtain a better understanding of mechanisms for drastic environmental changes to protect human life via proper disaster prevention.
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 立德 (Leader Univ.)
18
Industrial Development and Managing Innovation Industrial Development and Managing Innovation
The aim of this research is to integrate research effects in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurial management, industrial development and management, production and operations management, e-business management, and data mining and management.
Collaborations of interdisciplinary studies across universities in different countries, including Japan, Korea, United Kingdom, the United States, and most of ASEAN countries.
A recent study on national competitive ness among Taiwan and ASEAN countries has invited 55 faculty members from 11 universities to participate in the study.
Involved Universities and Colleges: 成大 (National Cheng Kung Univ.), 中山 (National Yat-Sen Univ.), 中
興 (National Chung Hsing Univ.), 高雄大學 (National University of Kaohsiung), 雲科大 (National Yunlin Univ. of Science and Technology), 東華 (National Dong Hwa Univ.), 虎尾科大 (National Formosa Univ.), 彰師大 (National Changhua Univ. of Education)…etc.
