KHAYA STEEL FRAMING AND ROOFING
Some build houses.We build homes.
Who is Khaya Steel Framing?
• Khaya Steel Frame and Roofing is a dynamic young company which prides itself on manufacturing and erecting high quality light steel frame residential and commercial buildings– Using roll forming technology from New
Zealand (Framemaster) and proprietary CAD software Khaya is South Africa’s first light steel frame company to offer turnkey building solutions to the residential market.
– From quote to completion your building project is our building project
What is light steel frame construction?
• Light steel frame building systems typically consist of:– Cold formed sections manufactured using high
strength, thin gauge galvanised steel sheet– Integrated design and manufacturing facilities– Optimally designed to provide required structural
strength– Used for roof trusses and walling systems
• Light steel frame has been used for decades and is growing in popularity worldwide, especially in the US, UK and Australia
What does it offer?• It Offers:
Improved quality (e.g. finishes)
Energy efficiency
Speed of construction
Structural soundness
Durability (e.g. 50 years corrosion warrantee on galvanised steel)
Accuracy (dimensional)
Predictability (time and cost)
Reduced wastage (sections are factory produced, less wet trades)
Reduced logistical costs
Other factors that make LSF preferable to conventional building
methods• It’s tried and tested
– In the US, Europe and Australasia light steel frame solutions have been used for decades.
– The building codes have been adapted from Australian code due to similar environmental and climatic conditions.
– The code has been accepted by the NHBRC technology committee
Other factors that make LSF preferable to conventional building
methods• It accommodates imperfect foundation
conditions– Many potential building sites in SA pose serious
problems for conventional foundations – Due to a much lower mass and lower gravity loads
(up to 90%) LSFB requires less material use in foundations creating saving of up to 20%
– LSFB also lends itself to posts with bearers and pad and pier footing foundations which are perfect for sloping sites
Other factors that make LSF preferable to conventional building
methods• High Quality
– LSFB complies to the rational design requirements of the NBR
– Structurally sound as each structure is signed off by an engineer
– Only quality certified materials are used– Frames are assembled under factory conditions– Industry association (SASFA) – quality watchdog
Other factors that make LSF preferable to conventional building
methods• It’s superior to brick and mortar
– Thermal insulation is superior to double skin brick wall making LSFB perfectly aligned with energy conservation initiatives and goals
– Easy installation of services– Durability - The steel is predicted to have a lifespan greater than
100 years– Flexibility of building enables building in stages and easy, cost
effective alterations– Due to wall thicknesses an additional 4% of floor space is gained– It’s fast – Due to reduced wet work (cement, plaster etc) and
factory produced panels LSFB’s are erected in considerably less time. This translates to earlier occupation
In closing
• South Africa suffers from a huge shortfall of cost effective, energy efficient housing
• LSFB is an answer to these problems• Khaya Steel Framing and Roofing undertakes to
help restore dignity, security and pride to those in need of more than just shelter, and quality appreciation to those in a position to afford luxurious residential homes
