Dear friends,

By the time this Annual Report goes to print, the Rockbund Art Mu-

seum (RAM) will have been only six months old. This is a negligible

period of time for an institution which, by definition, aims to be “per-

manent”. Nevertheless, the very initial stage of any organic body

would always bear great meaning and significance, as it represents

a successful conclusion of long and tedious preparation efforts and

marks the much-expected beginning of an even longer, perhaps

endless process of growth and maturation. As the Board Chair of

the Rockbund Art Museum as well as a member of the founding

team, I am privileged to share with you in this first ever Annual

Report this short yet precious experience.

The day 4 May 2010 marked the first official opening of RAM to the

public, and also a successful end of years’ work of conception, plan-

ning, construction and preparation. During this period, which was

long but had always seemed to be insufficient, we had completed

the process of recreating a modern art museum out of a much

tormented historic building. Today, when reviewing the pictures of

the building of only 2 or 3 years before, I still could not help being

amazed by the marvellous work achieved by our designers and

constructors: this long-forgotten and heavily beaten-down building

that used to be the site for the first museum in modern China has

now been restored with its beauty and dignity and, at the same time,

added a simple aesthetic touch and effective modern functions. It

has also become safer and more comfortable for people to wander

in. All these miracles were made possible by the extraordinary

design team led by Sir David Chipperfield and the construction and

management team from the Rockbund Group; we owe them our

most sincere gratitude.

This same day also saw the successful establishment of Rockbund

Art Museum as an institution. We are fully aware that how simple or

challenging it can be to set up an art museum in China these days.

We’ve spent over a year in preparation as we’ve decided to take

the challenging path. We have carefully gone over issues such as

the ownership, mission and operational strategies of the Museum,

registration, organizational structure, project planning and human resources so that we can run the

art museum in a professional manner and meet our long-term goal, while taking into consideration

the reality of the nation. In this process, we received valuable suggestion and enormous help from

friends both in and outside the art community, which made the yet-to-be-born Museum a platform

for our common ideals right from the start. However, it is the excellent planning and execution of

Ms. Lai Hsiangling that has turned the Museum from a blueprint to a professional and efficient

organization. As the first Director, she has been indispensable to the success of the creation of the

RAM and its inaugural exhibitions. Her outstanding leadership has already won the Museum wide-

spread recognition within the first few months.

Since its establishment, RAM has already held three exhibitions, two international and domestic

academic seminars and dozens of free public lectures and educational events. These activities,

while showcasing great achievements in the field of contemporary art, have broadened our aes-

thetic and philosophical horizon and facilitated communication between people of different profes-

sions and social groups. They encouraged us to think about many pressing social issues of our day

and our positions as a part of the modern society. The planning and execution of these projects also

shows the dedication of RAM, as a non-profit cultural institution, in promoting communication and

dialogues among various interest groups in seek of consensus and harmony. We have been most

fortunate to be recognized and supported by government authorities, enterprises and the general

public, which enabled RAM to form close and dynamic links with the local community, making us

more and more confident about our future.

It is without any doubt that these achievements would have been impossible without the tremen-

dous devotion of all the staff members and volunteers in the RAM. The operation of an art museum

involves meticulous jobs and I am not able to follow each and every thing that our colleagues have

to complete in order to realize the exhibitions and events, and to maintain an enjoyable environment

for visitors. But I know that the success of the Museum relies on the professionalism, integrity, pas-

sion and ideals of each member of the team. In this sense, they represent the spirit and future of

the Museum.

This Annual Report can only include a brief summary of the operations of RAM in the past six

months. It is not a detailed log of all our work ever since the opening of the Museum, and it might

not have the most accurate descriptions. But it presents to us the very first step toward our goals,

and stands for a testimony to our ideal, resolution and strength invested in it.

Thank you for your continuous support to Rockbund Art Museum.

Message from the Board Chair

Thomas Ou

Page 8: 2010 annual report of Rockbund Art Museum

To be entrusted by Rockbund Board Chairman Thomas Ou to serve

as the Rockbund Art Museum’s first director is a great honor and

a challenge. The honor lies in the opportunity to pursue my ideals

with this pioneering and important task. The challenge lies in find-

ing ways to bring the past more than twenty years’ experience in

art management and curatorial practice into this vigorous city, and

effectively develop in this particular social, cultural and political

environment. In a broader sense, as we face the globalization of

contemporary art, what’s the significance of building a brand new

art museum in Shanghai in the latter part of the first decade in

the 21st century? What kind of art museum is needed in this city?

How to position the art museum’s operation and development?

Which cultural perspective should be represented? What are the

roles the art museum can play in a new century? What’s the rela-

tionship between the art museum and society? How to communicate

with our audience? These are the questions and considerations the

board of directors and all RAM colleagues constantly must face, that

establish our working context, and that gradually penetrate into the

exhibitions and activities held since the opening of the museum.

RAM is located at the Rockbund area, which, in the 1930s, was a

crossroads for a diverse array of religion, art, architectural design

and business. Towering over this historical area with its deep cul-

tural foundation, RAM combines arts, history, contemporary social

reality and urban life, and becomes a natural location for develop-

ment. We expect the involvement of arts will inspire the rebirth of

the urban values, and through contemporary thought revive the his-

torical meanings. It was with these considerations that we planned

our first three exhibitions since our opening last May.

For our inaugural exhibition, we invited Cai Guoqiang to plan“CAI

GUO-QIANG PEASANT DA VINCIS.” He leveraged art creation to

reflect historical and societal issues, and challenged the traditional

aesthetics, arts museum system, and even political ethics, thus

making the art museum not only a place for art experimentation

and a platform for social research, but progressed on a journey of

questioning and self exploration. We cooperated with curator Wu

Hung on the “2010 Zeng Fanzhi” exhibition, which represented the museum’s attention to the quest

for arts creation and academic research. Through the individual analysis of an important artist, the

audience enjoyed a chance to closely observe and recognize China’s contemporary arts upsurge,

understand the artist’ newest thoughts and experiments, and appreciate his consistent efforts

to make advances and breakthroughs. Curated by Hou Hanru, the “By Day, By Night, or Some

(Special) things a Museum Can Do” exhibition explored the role of the contemporary art museum

and its social involvement. The opening style of this exhibition brought international exposure, and

displayed perfectly a diversity of creative themes and versatile techniques of expression. With the

innovation and ingenuity of the curator and artists, art was presented according to circumstances

and became omnipresent. The museum’s outer wall, elevator, front hall and cafe, even the neigh-

boring communities all were covered in art. Art is changing the environment, telling stories and

expressing thoughts, all of which serve as a radical attempt to bring art to life. The art pieces in the

three exhibitions were carried out of the art museum, expanded to the square, church and nearby

neighborhood. The topics, content discussed and the influence went far beyond the wall of the art

museum and the art circle, thereby carrying out the concept of “Museum without Wall: Art and Life”

that RAM promotes.

Aside from the exhibitions, more than 60 seminars, lectures, performances, workshops and movies

have been held since the opening of RAM last year. The topics expanded to community interaction,

art education, cultural study, social concerns and philosophical issues, all of which are positive

responses to social reality and contemporary culture. At the same time, the planning and organiza-

tion of these activities was not the art museum’s only means of expression. We also actively col-

laborated with local resources, inviting all kinds of art media, educational/research organizations

and social art societies to come and conduct their own experiments and present their achieve-

ments. Therefore, RAM is no longer a single voice, but in fact a hub for artists and audience to meet

and communicate.

RAM is a private non-profit organization, with a mission for public good. RAM is a platform for

the presentation and exchange of creative ideas, and also plays the role of a questioner. The art

museum sharply observes the world, and reflects societal development through the medium of art.

Through this attention and reflection, the art museum becomes an organic part of social life. In this

sense, the art museum acts as a quest for culture as an important part of society. We hope that this

mechanism will expand the audience’s observational field of vision, extending outward to the actual

world, and inward toward the contemporary society’s spiritual sphere. The launch and development

of the art museum can be regarded as a response to its museum history, a reflection of and involve-

ment in contemporary life and construction, and even more a depiction of an ideal future life.

Address by the Director

Seated in the north end of the famous Bund area in Shanghai, the Rockbund Art Museum was origi-

nally the Royal Asiatic Society (RAS) building home to Shanghai Museum, one of the first modern

museums in China. In 2005, the Shanghai Bund de Rockefeller Group Master Development Co. Ltd.

obtained the right to develop the area. In respect for its historical and cultural heritage, and as a

form of contribution to the community, the developer decided to restore the RAS building, and to

renovate it into a public museum for contemporary art.

Mission Statement

Drawing on resources from governmental, social and corporate domains, the Rockbund Art Museum

considers its mission to be an organization for the spread of humanistic values and the promotion of

art, and dedicates its efforts to the study, exchange and promotion of contemporary visual arts. As

the only contemporary art museum on the Bund, the Rockbund Art Museum benefits from its rich

cultural tradition and mainstream location. It works to integrate art, design and innovation into an

aesthetic space for a new Shanghai lifestyle.

A Proud Legacy

Established in 1932, the RAS Building was a witness to the history of 19th and 20th Century Sino-

European cultural and academic exchange. At its height, this building contained a lecture hall, a

library and a museum. Bringing together the functions of scholarly research, cultural exchange and

public education under one roof, this structure was truly unique in Shanghai of that era. Eventually

it had become the largest center for Oriental Studies as well as a widely respected institution for

public education.

The Building

At the helm of the important task of restoration and design planning is the world-renowned British

architect David Chipperfield, who had directed the master planning of the Museum Island in Berlin.

The building was originally designed by the British design firm Palmer and Turner. In highlighting

a harmonious blend of Western architectural elements with Shanghai’s cityscape, the firm incorpo-

rated traditional Chinese decorative elements in the building and created a unique hybrid architec-

tural style. In an effort to retain the original flavour of the historical building, David Chipperfield has

chosen to stay consistent to the original 1932 design in the building’s main exterior facade in the

restoration.

“Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant Da Vincis”, the inaugural exhibition for the Rockbund Art Museum (RAM)

in Shanghai, features inventions by nine peasants from eight provinces in China, which showcases in

the form of “cultural readymades” the creativity of ordinary people, a subject that Cai Guo-Qiang has

been interested in for a long time. This “crossover” project in the RAM is the first of its kind by the

renowned artist.

Works in the exhibition include planes, submarines, robots and flying saucers designed and created

by farmers, inventions commissioned by Cai and works made by the artist himself. The exhibition

also includes the screening of two documentary films on inventions and space explorations by a

former USSR and Romanian director respectively. By presenting works of a variety of media and

perspectives, the show aims to recognize the capability, courage and ideals of peasant inventors

across the nation. Against the backdrop of the concurrent Shanghai World Expo, an extraordinary

event featuring the latest technologies and our common visions for a better future, the exhibition

encourages public discussions on poetic, aesthetic and cultural connotations of these inventions

and demonstrates our common concerns on social issues such as the modernization of China and

the welfare of peasants.

The exhibition has been well received by the artistic and academic community, news agencies and

the public. At the same time, a number of parallel academic and educational activities hosted in the

RAM provided a platform for opinion sharing on social and academic subjects such as the relation-

ship between artistic creation and institutions, the social role of a museum, modernization and

urbanization of China and better livelihood for peasants. Thanks to “Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant Da

Vincis”, the RAM has built for itself an image of openness, innovation as an active part of the society.

One of the leading figures in Chinese contemporary art, Zeng Fanzhi enjoys an international reputa-

tion for his paintings of great tension. The continual evolution of his style and imagery over the past

two decades has been avidly followed by scholars, critics and collectors in China and overseas. Pre-

senting his latest works that have never been shown to the public before, the exhibition is focused

on the most recent achievement of his artistic exploration and provides important reference for the

current state of Zeng Fanzhi as an individual artist and Chinese contemporary art as a whole.

Curated by Professor Wu Hung, a renowned art historian at Chicago University, this exhibition

consists of three parts. The first part is composed of Zeng’s recent paintings, such as two ten-me-

ter-long oil paintings stretching all across the gallery on the second floor, the largest painting ever

created by the artist. The second part is composed of the first group of sculptures by Zeng, featuring

images of animals and metaphors on death and relics, which showed visitors a new dimension

of the artist‘s work. The third part is a large spatial installation in a neighboring church that was

resorted only recently from its almost wrecked condition. The artist created mock stained-glass

artworks on the windows of the Union Church that referred to his early paintings, adding multiple

layers of meanings to these works through his innovative use of the environment and medium.

Apart from being experimental and innovative in nature, it is also the first time for the artist to

present site-specific works in the exhibition. This represents a major development in his artistic

career. At the same time, the themes of the works prompt visitors to think about environmental

protection and the common destiny of human race.

“By Day, By Night, or Some (Special) Things a Museum Can Do”, curated by the renowned curator

Mr. Hou Hanru, brought together nine artists from China and several other nations and focuses on

different forms of contemporary art in the public space, presenting ideas on the new functions and

social role of an art museum. The artists studied and explored the history and reality of both the city

of Shanghai and the Rockbund Art Museum and based their works on their own cultures and experi-

ences. All of them also incorporated features of the exhibition space into their experimental works,

producing site-specific artworks for this exhibition.

The exhibition consists of two parts: an art exhibition during the day and “By Night @ RAM” events in

the evening. The two strands are independent, but also in constant dialogue with each other. The art

exhibition, situated in RAM building and several neighbouring places, is the material realization of

an art event, stable and tangible. The evening events include the “Night School” programme in coop-

eration with local art education and media organizations, such as Xiyitang, Ray Art Center, Art World

Magazine and Art China Magazine, offering lectures, music shows and performances, as well as

film screenings made up of movies recommended by the artists so as to build a cross-disciplinary

and cross-sector platform that could transcends the conventional concept of an exhibition in a more

dynamic and free manner.

Introduction

The education programs in 2010 were mainly of three categories, covering themes related to the

exhibitions and current social, cultural and aesthetic topics in a variety of interactive forms. They

included: exhibition seminars participated by international and domestic scholars and curators,

lectures on exhibition-related topics, creativity-inspiring workshops, cross-over performances and

film screenings that helped visitors understand the inspirations for artists. All these activities were

free for the public.

Apart from these activities, RAM has also produced free-of-charge exquisite guidebooks for every

exhibition so that visitors can have a more comprehensive understanding of these exhibitions. An-

other service provided by RAM is audio tour. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Cai Guo-Qiang recorded

the audio guide himself for his exhibition “Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant DaVincis”. Free guided tours are

provided at 2pm every Sunday, which have been very popular among visitors. The RAM also consid-

ers its priority to train its public service specialists, volunteers and interns, as they represent the

Museum to the public.

During the “2010 Zeng Fanzhi” exhibition, in order to celebrate the National Day of the UK in the

Shanghai World Expo, RAM cooperated with the UK Pavilion and the British Council Shanghai

to present on the Museum Square the global premier of “Congregation”, an outdoor new media

interactive installation performance by the artist group KMA. As a part of the exhibition “By Day,

By Night, or Some (Special) Things A Museum Can Do”, “By Night @ RAM” consisted of 18 “Night

School” events and 27 movie screenings. The pamphlet for this program was a favorite among visi-

tors thanks to its interactive and practical quality.

To further elaborate on the values and meanings of “Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant Da Vincis”, Rockbund

Art Museum took the initiative to organize a seminar centering on exhibition-related themes, for

which it invited experts in museum theories, art critique, cultural studies and history of science who

pooled their minds together for a discussion on various topics covered by the exhibition. With free ad-

mission and targeting the academia, the art professionals, students as well as the general audience,

the seminar was convened at the longstanding Peacock Hall of Astor House Hotel in one morning

session and one afternoon session.

“Art Museums and Public Programs” hosted by Rockbund Art Museum featured a discussion

among curators and directors of major art museums in China on the role of museums in the

contemporary world and the impact of public programs on the change of roles and extension

of functions of art museums. “Cai Guoqiang: Peasant Da Vincis”, the inaugural exhibition of

the Museum, already had demonstrated its ambition to transcend the conventional roles of an

art museum. In its over six-months’ history, through a series of seminars, lectures, dialogues

and performances, its public function and contemporaneity continues to be strengthened. This,

undoubtedly, is a meaningful effort to find the real values of art museums.

Since 2005 when the contemporary art market started to heat up, some independent art

spaces, together with commercial galleries and private museums, have been established that

support innovation and experimental practices in contemporary art with their unique perspec-

tives. They are pioneers in art spaces in China, providing a platform for emerging artists and

art projects. However, as the contemporary art scene becomes more and more commercial,

these spaces are faced with a hostile environment and unclear future. Their roles are also

blurred. Are they independent spaces, or non-profit organizations, or a transitional form? “Art

China” organized a sincere dialogue on the features and reality of the alternative spaces as well

as on the experiences of such spaces surviving in Hong Kong, Taiwan and other cities in China.

In the contemporary world dominated by capitalism, human activities are completely based in a

framework of commerce. And culture and art are developing as a part of that complicated structure,

which have never been in an “autonomous region” independent from the social context since the

beginning of history. Any cultural forms and products in the name of heritage as well as their repre-

sentation, change and significance shall also be put into that structure in order to be understood.

We no longer want to fall into the trap of determining a more superior culture. Instead, we want to

talk about the cultural dimensions of human lives and social activities, which will help us to better

understand the social reality and people’s lives. Culture interpretation of the reality has become a

typical way of research in cultural sociology and some other fields, but the events had not focused

on theories. On the contrary, the lectures looked at the most common business phenomena around

us and study their motivation and representation. These events, as a series of cases studies, were

an active component of that dynamic culture.

“Forum on Urban Time and Sound” discussed the many dimensions of urban time and sound in the

form of four “speeches + discussions” and covered issues such as the historical context of urban

time, urban time as an inspiration for artists, the phenomenology of urban sound, the relationship

between urban residents and urban time and sound as well as the reaction of prosperous city media

in the face of urban time. Instead of abstract theories, the forum focused on the living conditionings

of urban residents and encourage the ultra-busy people to think about the environment they live in,

giving them an opportunity to look at and reflect on our world from another angle and listen to the

“Exhibition” and “teaching” are the two mutually influencing arms of contemporary art. Similar to

galleries, the earliest museums in Europe opened their doors to artists. Today, the case remains

the same: art students can learn as much in exhibitions as in classes. As art museums are a public

medium, “being a part of art training system” is an important role that should never be ignored by

them. An excellent exhibition can be successful by having original concepts and assumptions alone,

which might be more important than the works displayed. The same is true for education: it should

be a research activity instead of a project consisting of a few lectures. In terms of the protection of

artworks and prediction of the trends in the sector, art schools and museums are closely linked,

which jointly can help the public to better understand contemporary art. “If art is a game, then…”

The three events by “Xiyitang” tried to explain the relationship between contemporary artworks and

education using French contemporary art education as an example.

We like to create rules. Ever since the ancient times, we have been developing in the areas of sci-

ence, technology, economy and culture while passing down the rules on virtually every aspect of our

lives from generation to generation, making them more sophisticated in the meantime. We have also

established a complicated evaluation system to make our life look orderly. We are willing to follow

rules as we take them for granted, just like we think it is quite natural that overweight women are

not pretty or iPhone 4 users are fashionable. When we are reviewing this world of rules, our lives are

influenced by these rules, which become more and more challenging as we are left no time to stop

and think.

“Beyond Regulations” are two workshops by two lecturers from the Academy of International Visual

Arts from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, who will build, together with visitors, an exit from

this world of rules and help the audience enjoy the pleasure of changing rules through handiwork.

The workshops can only last for a limited period of time, but they aim to serve as the starting point

for the public to ponder over the issue of rules.

Introduction

片;《2010·曾梵志》展览中与现代传播集团以及《Bazaar》的合作;

As a brand-new contemporary art museum, RAM’s marketing efforts in 2010 were mainly

focused on developing visitors, launching exhibition-related marketing campaigns and creating

an original promotion strategy by exploiting resources in all sectors. These efforts consisted of

six parts, namely activity planning, resource development, channel building, visitor development,

promotional materials designing and day-to-day PR work.

A number of promotional activities have been launched to interact with visitors and increase

public awareness of the Museum. During the exhibition “Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant DaVincis”,

RAM invited nearly 80 peasant workers in the construction team for the museum building to visit

the exhibition. During “2010 Zeng Fanzhi”, RAM made its first ever appearance in an internation-

al art fair by participating in The 4th Sh Contemporary. During the exhibition “By Day, By Night,

or Some (Special) Things A Museum Can Do”, two artist residence programs were realized.

Chen Hangfeng created a site-specific work “Christmas Project” and installed it in the lobby of

the Museum. Sun Xun, a participating artist, painted on-site for two weeks to finish his work

entitled “Beyond-ism”. RAM also organized a number of events where artists can have face-to-

face communication with visitors, which were very well received among art lovers.

In order to promote exhibitions, RAM has worked with many parties apart from the media. For

example, it cooperated with Aurora Group to show a promotional video for “Cai Guo-Qiang:

Peasant DaVincis” on the large screen on the Aurora International Tower in Lujiazui Financial

District of Pudong New Area. It worked with Modern Media Group and Bazaar for “2010 Zeng

Fanzhi” and with Twinings and Minsheng Art Museum for “By Day, By Night, or Some (Special)

Things A Museum Can Do”.

In terms of channel development, RAM made full use of the Internet and has built a number of

Internet platforms such as its official site, RAM blog, micro-blogs on sohu.com and sina.com,

RAM group on douban.com, RAM page on kaixin001.com and flickr account and has over 5000

followers. The Museum also sends out regularly e-Newsletters, e-DMs and text messages.

People around the world can get immediate updates on RAM exhibitions and activities as long

as they have Internet access. And also, thanks to our volunteer team, exhibition materials have

been brought to universities in Shanghai and helped attract college student visitors.

Openings

Media Collaboration

Three opening ceremonies have been held for the exhibitions in 2010. In the opening ceremony

for “Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant DaVincis” (also the opening ceremony of the Museum), Chinese

provincial opera, music and handicraft shows as well as delicious snacks on the Museum Square

have left unforgettable impressions on the guests. The opening for “2010 Zeng Fanzhi” was held

in the Union Church, part of the exhibition site. With melodious singing by boys choir created a

beautiful atmosphere for the night. Held on the fourth and fifth floors of the Museum, the cer-

emony for “By Day, By Night, or Some (Special) Things A Museum Can Do” featured a live audio

and video performance named “Gossamer” by Du Yun and Shahzia Sikander, the participating

artists, and Wang Changcun, a sound artist from China Academy of Art, which showed to the

audience the charming interaction between sounds and images.

other art bookstores. During “2010 Zeng Fanzhi” and “By Day, By Night, or Some (Special) Things

A Museum Can Do”, the RAM launched a “free tickets on micro-blog” campaign in cooperation

with Top Floor magazine. The Museum partnered with Card+ Media to place promotional flyers

in over 500 shops, restaurants, bars and other entertainment sites all over Shanghai during “By

Day, By Night, or Some (Special) Things A Museum Can Do”. Another program named “One day

and one night in RAM” was launched on the Card+ group in douban.com.

RAM has also maintained a close relationship with Art World, Art China and Bazaar magazines

and Modern Media Group to present to the public news and reports on its artistic and cultural

events.

Christmas Project

Shanghai based artist Chen Hangfeng made a site-specific work entitled “Christmas Project” for the

first Christmas holiday after the launch of Shanghai’s Rockbund Museum. The walls of the Rock-

bund’s reception area were invaded by flurries of silver snow flakes lit by two spinning disco balls.

Each individual snowflake was composed of brand logos which spoke as a metaphor in this age of

consumerism. The video piece “Santa’s Little Helpers” which was playing on the screen behind the

reception desk was shot in a village in Zhejiang province. The 9-minute video showed how peasant

homes had been turned into workshops producing christmas ornaments - products which were

exported to the West to meet the enormous Christmas shopping demand. The villagers were sur-

rounded by these beautiful holiday ornaments all year around, and “this christmas industry” brought

tangible economic gains to the workers. But at the same time, this industry had brought permanent

environmental damage to this little village.

Afternoon Tea with Sun Xun

In addition to his latest animation work “Beyond-ism”, Sun Xun, the participating artist, presented

an on-site painting performance for the “By Day, By Night, or Some (Special) Things a Museum Can

Do”. From the 20th thru 28th of November, Sun Xun worked at Rockbund Art Museum to create,

with Chinese water-and-ink, a series of new animation images on two blank walls reserved for

him inside the gallery. Towards the completion of the work, the artist hosted a face-to-face session

with the audience on November 27 which allowed the audience and the media to be a witness to his

latest creation and join him in a fervent discussion. The participants enjoyed a wonderful afternoon

session of art and happily received two VIP passes to the “21g” exhibition at Minsheng Art Museum

and a complimentary afternoon tea package sponsored by RAM Cafe.

“One Ticket, Two Museums” A Trip of Art for Christmas and New Year

2010.11.27.-2011.1.3., RockBund Art Museum and Minsheng Art Museum jointly launched the “One

Ticket, Two Museums” Christmas Package with an aim to encouraging more local visitors and

tourists be part of Shanghai’s diverse art scenes while celebrating the holiday season. During the

promotion period, visitors who purchased a ticket to either of the two museums would get a free

ticket to the other at the time of purchase.

The 4th Sh Contemporary

From September 7th, 2010 through 12th, RAM participated in the 4th Sh Contemporary, as its first

presence in an international art fair. And the exhibition 2010 Zeng Fanzhi was one of the VIP Pro-

gramme stops of the fair.

Free Admission to Migrant Workers

As the Cai Guo-Qiang: Peasant Da Vincis exhibition was drawing near to an end, Rockbund Art Mu-

seum extended an invitation to about one hundred migrant workers - the “protagonists” of the show

- who had been part of the museum’s construction work, for a free visit to the exhibition, which rep-

resented an effort on the part of RAM to further articulate the theme and concepts of the exhibition.
