E-Resources Update“All good things must come to an end” (English Proverb). For the Medical Library, it means the break-up of our fabulous First Team. This is the team that prepared and opened the doors to the COM’s inaugural Class of 2013 in the summer of 2009. It was a trein the summer of 2009. It was a tre-mendous effort to create a library service where none had been before, and the First Team did it superbly. Now, other opportunies have beckoned.

Gricel Dominguez, Library Assistant, has taken a library job at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens. Janelle Fernandez, Library Assistant, is now a Program Assis-tant in Clinical Affairs in the FIU College of Medicine. Alberto Lazo, Student Assistant, has also moved Student Assistant, has also moved on. Good luck to all of them!

To our great fortune, we have been able to recruit new staff members with the same kind of talent and energy. We are pleased to have Ileana Perdomo as our first full-me Office Assistant. We also welcome Duke Ingram, Library Assistant; and Chrisan Forment, Yaunek Murray, Chrisan Forment, Yaunek Murray, and Vamsi Krishna Punna as Student Assistants. Finally, Jose Garcia has been promoted from Student Assistant to Library Assis-tant. Jose was the medical library’s first staffer and we are especially happy to have him join us as a per-manent member of the Team.

The Medical Library offers The Medical Library offers the Medical Library Toolbar customized to meet the research needs of FIU College of Medicine faculty, students, and staff. Simply click the URL above to donwload and install the library toolbar on either Internet Explorer or FireFox. The toolbar sits right on top of your web browser and lets you jump to the library’s databases, e-journals, and other useful resources such as the library catalog, Interlibrary Loan, Ask a Librarian, and Refworks. Within the library toolbar, you can also search the library catalog, e-journals, PubMed, and Google Scholar with one click without going to a different place.

Please welcome our four new staff members to the library team: Duke Ingram, Chrisan Forment, Yaunek Murray, and Vamsi Krishna Punna.

Duke, Chrisan, and Yaunek will be working at the Medical Duke, Chrisan, and Yaunek will be working at the Medical Library Help Desk. Duke is a graduate of Mississippi State University and joined the College of Medicine as a Library Technical Assistant. He is originally from Yazoo City, MS, and served as a Library Technical Assistant at Hinds Com-munity College for 7 years. Chrisan is a 4th year Biomedi-cal Engineering student and his goal is to further his educaon and go into medical school. Yaunek is a philosoeducaon and go into medical school. Yaunek is a philoso-phy major originally from Tampa, FL.

Vamsi has joined the library as a Student Assistant. He is a student in the graduate program of Computer Science and Engineering at FIU. Vamsi will be working on scanning materials for the Medical Library’s Digizaion project funded by the Express Digizaion Grant Award from the Naonal Network of Libraries of Medicine.

Library News & Staff Updates The Medical Library has received the 2010/2011 FIU Tech Fee Award of $4,550. The award will be used to to purchase and install five addional copies of a suite of human anatomy soware - VH Dissector Pro, Cadaver Dissecon Guide, and Surface Palpaon Guide on library computers in order to enhance the learning and teaching acvies of FlU College of Medicine students and faculty.
