¡Bienvenidos a Los Cabos! With glorious Sea of Cortez beaches, year-round sunshine, award-winning dining, championship golf and legendary fi shing, it’s little wonder that Los Cabos is one of the world’s premier vacation destinations. Situated at the southernmost tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos offers a little bit of paradise for every visitor—you’ll fi nd everything from beautiful natural scenery to celebrity-studded nightlife.
A favorite for sunny getaways, Cabo is geographically blessed with a safe, convenient and SCENIC LOCATION enjoying island-like isolation from the U.S. border and mainland Mexico. Surrounded by the Sea of Cortez, the Pacifi c Ocean and miles of enchanting desert terrain, Los Cabos feels delight-fully remote. However, it’s just a SHORT FLIGHT from many major American gateways, and just a matter of a few hours from departure to poolside margaritas for many visitors. Los Cabos is located just south of the Tropic of Cancer (on the same latitude
Natural beauty and exciting activities await in Los Cabos.

as the Bahamas and Hawaii’s island of Kauai), and through-out the year, clear skies and low annual rainfall make visiting a delight. Los Cabos enjoys summer temperatures in the 90’s and daytime temperatures in the 70’s during the winter months when migrating whales put on spectacular shows offshore.
The area boasts a RICH HISTORY, from the original native Pericú peoples to the conquistadors and pirates who once patrolled the coastline. In the mid-twentieth century, Hollywood legends like Bing Crosby, John Wayne and Desi Arnaz traveled to Baja before the advent of the highway and international fl ights. They arrived in private planes and yachts to relax and fi sh in seclusion. Tourism and infrastructure has boomed since then, but Baja remains a favorite CELEBRITY RETREAT.
While visitors often think of bustling Cabo San Lucas when they hear “Los Cabos,” the region is actually home to two very distinctive cities. Cabo San Lucas (often simply called “Cabo”) is the vibrant heart of tourism, with a world-class marina, stylish resorts lining wonderfully SWIMMABLE MÉDANO BEACH, chic nightclubs, and the iconic natural rock arch at Land’s End where the waters of the Pacifi c meet those of the Sea of Cortez.
About 20 miles away, San José del Cabo offers a slower pace, romantic historic architecture, a thriving arts community and traditional town square. Linking the two cities is the stretch known as the Tourist Corridor, sprinkled with ultra-luxury resorts, PICTURESQUE BEACHES and world-famous golf courses including Cabo del Sol and Palmilla.
Further afi eld, remote retreats offer alternative tastes of Baja’s magic, from the tranquility of the EAST CAPE to the galleries and laid-back surfer vibe of TODOS SANTOS. Throughout the region, visitors will discover warm hospitality and modern services. And while knowing a little Spanish can be helpful, English is spoken in many of the resort areas, restaurants and bars.
With so much to do, from DIVING with thousands of tropical fi sh in some of the world’s most pristine waters to fi ghting a prize marlin, there’s never a dull moment in Los Cabos. Whether you choose to hop aboard a SUNSET CRUISE, enjoy tacos and beer at a beachfront cantina or treat yourself to a day of spa pampering, the vacation of a lifetime awaits!

Cabo San Lucas
LOVER’S BEACH
Tucked along the soaring rock formations at Land’s End, photogenic Lover’s Beach is a must-visit. Hop aboard a water taxi from Médano Beach or the marina, bring supplies for the day and make arrange-ments for your return as there are no services at the beach. When conditions are good, snorkeling and diving on the bay side can be delightful. Stay out of the water on the Pacifi c Ocean side known as Divorce Beach, where powerful surf pounds the shore. Swimming on this side is very dangerous.
MÉDANO BEACH
The centerpiece of Cabo San Lucas Bay, Playa El Médano (“The Dune”) is lined with hotels, bars and restaurants. The gentle waters along this beach make it great for swimming. This lively beach hums with the activity of visitors and vendors, making it a fantastic spot for people-watching. As parking is limited, grabbing a taxi may be your best bet. Access from Paseo del Pescador, the beachfront resorts or restaurants.
Corridor BeachesPLAYA LAS VIUDAS
Also known as Widows Beach, this serene stretch of sand is an insider favorite. A wonderfully tranquil atmosphere and tide pools teeming with marine life make this a great spot to spend a sunny afternoon. Swim with caution and when the waters are calm. Access via the dirt road located near Km. 12.5 on the Tourist Corridor.
SANTA MARIA BAY
For marvelous snorkeling, head out on the Tourist Corridor to Santa Maria, a small half-moon shaped bay that’s as pretty as it gets. Positioned between rugged bluffs, this enchanting cove offers larger-grained sand with a faint rosy hue, harmonizing beautifully with the vivid turquoise waters. Very popular for snorkel-ing and kayaking, this marine sanctuary features a wide variety of colorful tropical fi sh and sea fans. If you’re driving, look for the access sign near Km. 13 on the highway leading to the dirt parking area, then stroll to the cove.
CHILENO BAY
Another favorite for snorkel-ing, Chileno Bay is accessi-ble from a well-marked exit

on the highway near Km. 14. Above the beach, 7-bedroom Villa Cielito offers a unique setting for a vacation getaway. Surrounded by rustling palms, the villa’s beautiful pool overlooks this bay where snorkelers and kayakers revel in calm waters and vibrant sea life. Popular with local families and tourists alike, the beach offers palapas for shade, basic restrooms and a palm grove. Children will enjoy exploring the tide pools.
TEQUILA COVE AT CABO REAL (BLEDITO BEACH)
Midway through the Corridor, visitors will discover an invitingly long stretch of sand fronting the Meliá Cabo Real and Hilton hotels. There can be good swimming next to the man-made breakwater and
water sports, with equipment rentals conveniently located on the beach. Excellent for beachcombing, walking, and horseback riding, this scenic beach is delightful. The easiest access is through the hotels at Km.19.5.
PALMILLA BAY
Nearing San José del Cabo, Palmilla Beach is another great spot. Depending on conditions, this cove can be wonderful for snorkeling, swimming or kayaking. Located alongside the luxurious One&Only Palmilla Resort and its world-class golf course, this popular beach has long been a favorite. In the afternoon, watch the fi shermen return to shore accompanied by eager pelicans. Located at Km. 27 on the highway.

San José del CaboWhile they’re perfect for walking, horseback riding and shore fi shing, San José del Cabo’s beaches are usually not suitable for swimming.
COSTA AZUL BEACH
Home to the famous Zipper’s break and a beach bar and grill restaurant, this is one of the hottest surfi ng spots in Los Cabos. Access near Km. 28 and park in the arroyo.
HOTEL BEACH
Expansive Hotel Beach is about a mile from historic downtown San José. Surf fi shing, strolling, sunbathing, horseback riding and beach volleyball are popular here, but the waters are generally not safe for swimming. The San José estuary, a bird sanctuary with lush natural palm groves
and a sea turtle nursery, is located at the beach’s east end, along with a stable for horseback riding. Access along Paseo Malecón, the long beach drive lined with resorts.
East Cape
CABO PULMO
Further away, East Cape beaches charm visitors with their pristine shores. If you’re up for a memorable day-trip, head out to Cabo Pulmo, a marine sanctuary several hours northeast of San José. Here you’ll fi nd some of the world’s most incredible diving and snorkeling in one of North America’s few living coral reefs. Make the drive yourself or reserve an excursion departing from Los Cabos.

Sport FishingKnown as the “Marlin Capital of the World,” Los Cabos has a long-standing reputation as one of the world’s most prestigious fi shing destinations. Well before the area’s tourism industry took off, fi shermen in the know headed down to Baja to fi ght monster fi sh in these remarkably rich waters. The unique confl uence of the Pacifi c Ocean and Sea of Cortez at Land’s End results in an incredible variety of marine life.
Anglers will fi nd seasonal abundance of striped, black, and blue marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi), tuna, sea bass, wahoo and rooster-fi sh, among other species in the waters around Los Cabos. The type of fi sh varies throughout the year based on water tempera-tures, moon phase, the presence of bait fi sh, location of fi shing vessels and other factors. We work with expert fi shing fl eets and captains highly skilled in locating the best current fi shing spots. Annual tournaments attract international competitors in search of prize-winning catches.

Shopping in CaboIf your vacation itinerary includes the hot pursuit of a great bargain or unique treasure, Los Cabos won’t disappoint. Enchanting small boutiques, outdoor vendors and modern shopping malls offer variety and diversion for every shopper.
Cabo San Lucas In Cabo San Lucas, you’ll discover a bit of everything, from inexpensive baubles to designer clothing, high-end jewelry and quality cigars. Much of the shopping action is centered around the marina and surrounding downtown streets. Browsing by foot is easy and shoppers will delight in simply strolling and window-shopping. Persistent street vendors hawking all manner of goods and services are masters of the hard sell and are best dismissed with a fi rm “no, gracias” unless you’re truly interested.
You’ll have a chance to refi ne your bargaining skills in Los Cabos, where some friendly haggling is expected and part of the fun in outdoor markets and many smaller shops. Of course,

many hand-made goods involve a great deal of labor, so be sure to consider the artisan’s time and skill when negotiating.
If you’re looking for souvenirs, from t-shirts to trinkets, head to the MARINA MERCADO located at the end of Blvd. Marina near the main dock. Founded by artisans from throughout Mexico, you’ll fi nd a great variety of goods in this large building.
For a modern, air-conditioned shopping atmosphere, check out the PUERTO PARAISO MALL, featuring clothing shops, jewelry and fi ne dining, as well as a movie theater and arcade for the kids in a great marina-side location. Nearby, the LUXURY AVENUE BOUTIQUE MALL offers designer clothing, handbags, and jewelry by some of the most prestigious names in international fashion.
If Mexico’s national spirit is on the shopping list, stop in at the TEQUILA MUSEUM located in the “Golden Zone” of the marina near the Marina Fiesta Resort. Here, you can sample and buy exotic tequilas, view distilling equipment on display and snap a photo with one of the charming character sculptures outside.
For breezy resort fashion and distinctive women’s clothing, a visit to MAGIC OF THE MOON is a must. For twenty years, Pepita’s fl owing fashions with tropical-inspired, hand-painted fabrics have been a Cabo signature. Custom orders are available at the Hildalgo Blvd. boutique in Cabo San Lucas and at sister shop, PEPITA’S, located in the Tourist Corridor.
The fascinating art form of hand-blown glass thrives at VITROFUSION Y ARTE GLASS FACTORY just outside of town off the road to Todos Santos. Worth the jaunt, the factory hums with activity into the early afternoon. A variety of decorative pieces and vessels are available; custom orders require pre-order.
If you haven’t arranged for the pre-stocking of your villa, you’ll want to stop for provisions. CHEDRAUI (formerly CCC) and SORIANA are east of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19. Both large supermarkets offer great quality food items and produce. The WALMART and SAM’S CLUB fl ank each other close to Km. 2 on the main highway. At the Walmart center, you’ll also fi nd LA EUROPEA offering imported wines and cheeses. Located on Paseo del Pescador and Lázaro Cárdenas, CITY CLUB is a large warehouse store offering groceries and bakery items. Sam’s Club and City Club require memberships or a small fee to shop.

CorridorWhile shopping options are more limited in the Tourist Corridor, a few shops are worth checking out. ARTESANOS at Km. 2.5 on the main highway is a favorite—you’ll enjoy browsing the tremendous assortment of handmade crafts, colorful pottery, clothing, and decorative items. THE SHOPPES AT PALMILLA are located at Km. 27.5 and offer sophisticated, upscale home décor, art, fashion and fi ne dining.
To stock your pantry, you may want to stop in at COSTCO (requires a membership) located at Km. 4.5 on the main highway, with the usual big-box warehouse variety of foods and beverages.
San José del CaboMeandering the historic downtown streets of San José del Cabo is a true pleasure, with delightful boutiques at every turn. From November through June, the THURSDAY EVENING ART WALK along Obregón Street is a romantic way to experience San José’s eclectic galleries, many housed in beautiful old buildings, while you sip wine and meet the artists. Among the captivat-ing offerings in San José, NECRI is a sure bet for its beautiful variety of hand-painted Talavera and Majolica ceramics. And, for antiques, tequilas and hand-embroidered goods, head over to ANTIGUA LOS CABOS on Blvd. Mijares.
When you need to stock up on groceries, hit up the gleaming MEGA superstore, which is just outside of town, across from the entrance to the toll highway on Boulevard Mauricio Castro. SORIANA at Km. 34.5 and a new WALMART on the highway near Avenida Valerio Gonzaléz are also good choices.
Todos SantosIf you can squeeze in the day trip to this wonderful historic town on the Pacifi c coast, you’re in for a great afternoon browsing the many world-class galleries. At GALERIA DE TODOS SANTOS, you’ll discover fi ne art paintings by some of Baja Sur’s top artists. Tourists are permitted to bring in personal effects duty-free. According to customs regulations, in addition to clothing, personal effects may include a camera, video player, laptop computer, CD player, 5 DVDs, 20 music CDs or audio cassettes, 12 rolls of unused fi lm, and a cellular phone (regulations subject to change). As you exit the airport, be cautious about in-airport timeshare sales pitches. If you have reserved transportation, your ride will be awaiting outside, where taxis are also available.
Departing CaboAfter checking out, make sure you head to the airport on time. Have proper documentation on hand, especially the MEXICO TOURIST CARD you received on the fl ight to Los Cabos.
U.S. Customs: The U.S. Customs Service currently permits most U.S. citizens returning from international travel to bring back $800 worth of merchandise, including 1 liter of alcohol, duty-free. All major credit cards are accepted in Los Cabos; Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted. American Express and Discover Card are accepted in a few locations. Check with your credit card company about international fees. In restaurants and shops, ask if they accept credit. Personal U.S. checks are rarely accepted, so don’t rely on them.

Summers are hot and arid—perfect beach weather. Summer and fall are usually the best for diving, with warm waters and good visibility. The weather in Cabo is generally great!
Time Zone Info Los Cabos is located within the Mountain Time Zone, 7 hours behind GMT and 2 hours behind New York. In Mexico, Daylight Saving Time is observed from the fi rst Sunday in April until the last Sunday in October.
Security & SafetyLos Cabos is a very safe destination. Crime is not a big problem in the resort areas of Los Cabos, but do exercise common sense and caution. Don’t leave valuables unattended. When using an ATM, use the same attention you would at home. Absolutely avoid narcotics and fi rearms. If in trouble, contact the U.S. consulate; the number is 143-3566.
Water safety: There are no lifeguards in Los Cabos. Beach resorts use a fl ag system to indicate water safety: red indicates danger, yellow means caution and green signifi es the water conditions are safe. Use caution around the surf, especially on the rougher Pacifi c side, where large waves and undertows are common occurrences.
TransportationA number of transportation options are available in Los Cabos. When reserved prior to your trip, ESSV can arrange transporta-tion to and from the airport to your villa or resort. In general, we highly recommend a rental car for convenience and sightseeing. ESSV is proud to offer Avis and National rentals. We recommend reserving your rental car before your trip to assure availability.
Private transportation is also available by reservation. Vehicles range from a 6-person limo to a 17-person van. Taxis are available at the airport and in resort areas, but do not run on meters. Be sure to negotiate your fare and be clear about your destination.
To reserve transportation, contact your ESSV representative.

It is usually nice and sunny year-round. Pack a light jacket or sweater for mornings and cool nights. Don’t forget the swimsuits!

If you have a smartphone, be aware that extra data charges may apply while in Mexico. Call your provider before your trip to fi nd out if service is available. ESSV also offers convenient cell phone rentals for your use. Call your ESSV representative to reserve.
DRIVING IN BAJA – WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?ESSV offers competitively priced Avis and National car rentals. Your U.S. driver’s license is valid in Mexico. U.S. auto insurance is not valid in Mexico, so secure additional Mexican insurance through your rental provider. Use common sense and observe local regulations. Parking is limited downtown.
