P3O in the Netherlands; 2009-2011, 3rd Anniversary!

In 2009 the first Dutch professionals received their P3O certification. Then P3O was unknown by many. P3O was first introduced within the International Project Management Association in a special edition of ‘Projectie’, the magazine of IPMA Netherlands called The PMO Special (December 2009).

In my P3O article I introduced the P3O model, the terminology and the benefits for portfolio, programme and projectmanagers by asking ´what´s in it for me?´. That question was answered based on experience in the UK by Sue Vowler, P3O author and owner of Project Angels. This article is available on Slideshare.

The P3O qualification started its march in 2010. Since then an increasing number of training companies offer P3O Foundation and Practitioner Courses and exams. APMG offers an open exam (selfstudy). Check www.apmg-international.com

3 Years later… 2011 it is clear that P3O has become a standard and is considered as the qualification for PMO professionals. Also companies have adopted P3O, which is visible in job descriptions and the P3O qualification is often mentioned as a requirement. Consultancy firms were the first to do so.

P3O Anniversary Survey Sue Vowler (lead author) and a team of authors presented the guidance at the BPUG UK, October 2009. To congratulate them and to see how P3O has been used in practice Lenny Descamps and I organized the P3O Anniversary Survey. The results were presented at the BPUG UK, November 2011. The presentation and a video will be available at the BPUG UK website.
