    DELPHOS The Delphos Recreation Center at 939 EastFifth St. in Delphos ((419) 692-2695) has been and remains amainstay in the Delphos and surrounding bowling communi-ties in its 50-plus years of operatiion.

    Ever since it opened in 1959 under the ownership of theGengler Family, changed to the Cardone Family hands in1979 and finally to its current owners, Bruce and Lisa VanMetre, in 1994, the establishment has grown in stature amongbowlers and fans alike.

    With its 16 lanes and 13 employees, including a pro shoprun by Bruce Van Metre, it has even become a mainstay on theSenior Professional Bowlers Association tour with its CentralRegional tournament held every September.

    Currently open from August through June, it hosts leagues

    every night except Friday & Saturday with open bowling,such as Friday Lazer Bowling from 10 p.m. to midnight, theother nights (call for available times):

    Monday - Ladies at 6 p.m. and the Men at 9 p.m.Tuesday - Men at 6 and 9 p.m.Wednesday - Men at 6 p.m.Thursday - Mens 6:15 & Womens 6:30Saturday morning - Kids and Junior BowlingSunday - Mixed Couples at 6 p.m.It features a full snack bar, with items such as pizza,

    COLDWATER Stability is a good thing for many abusiness.

    In particular, it is good for bowling.Pla-Mor Lanes at 225 East Hardin St., Coldwater, Ohio

    45828 ((419) 678-3113) is just such a place.The center was built by the Hartings Family in 1976 and

    remains in the family.The 16-lane house home of a PBA Central Regional tour-

    nament; the Lefeld Implement Classic is open seven days aweek from 6 a.m. to midnight for bowlers convenience. Eachlane also has automated scoring.

    Its 20 employees also allow for a pro shop to be availableon a daily basis.

    As well, the establishment has a full-service restaurant andbar that includes a drive-through and carry-out convenience.

    Pla-Mor is home to a number of league opportunities on anightly basis: Mens, Womens, Mixed and Senior Citizens, aswell as Youth Leagues for all ages.

    On Friday night, Rock-and-Bowl is the main attraction.

    WAPAKONETA Astro Bowling Lanes at 1113 Apollo

    Drive in Wapakoneta, Ohio ((419) 738-7306) offers 16 lanes forbowlers pleasure in the Auglaize County and surrounding area.

    The business, which is open on a daily basis from 11 a.m.to midnight, offers a variety of league opportunities every dayMonday through Sunday.

    Womens leagues are offered at the following times: 6 p.m.Monday; 6 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. Wednesday; and 6 p.m.Thursday.

    Mens leagues are held 9 p.m. Monday; 9 p.m. Tuesday; 6 and9 p.m. Wednesday; and 7 p.m. Friday.

    Junior leagues are held at three different times on Saturdays: 9a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; while a mixed league is held starting6 p.m. Sunday at the lanes.

    With its four full-time and nine part-time employees, AstroBowling Lanes has a pro shop available.

    It also offers a restaurant and bar that is open for lunch anddinner with a variety of specials and meals for patrons.

    The center was built in early 1970s and currently is ownedand operated by Linus Harding and Denny Borgelt since 1978.

    The center is hosting the first annual G.A. Wintzer and SonPBA Classic in 2011.

    LIMA Westgate Lanes offers many amenities for theareas bowling community.

    The house at 721 North Cable Rd., Lima (419) 227-7231) owned and operated by the Johnston family since open-ing in 1958 begins with a 36-lane facility that employees50 people.

    It originally opened with 24 lanes but an expansion in1961 added 12 lanes and a full-service restaurant.

    The current home of the University of NorthwesternOhio bowling teams was remodeled in 2001 to become theareas premier entertainment facility.

    Though there is no pro shop available, it is also hometo the Fireside Lounge and Char-Grill Restaurant, a full-service menu and bar that features Limas finest pizza and aSunday morning breakfast buffet.

    Its hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m. to midnight Friday-Saturday; and 8 a.m.

    MINSTER The Green Bay Packers are a National

    Football League team that is owned by common sharehold-

    ers within Packer Nation.

    So is Community Lanes-Minster, the bowling house at

    356 East Third St., Minster, Ohio 45865 ((419) 628-2717;

    web address: www.communitylanesminster.com).

    The community-owned 18-lane center, originally a

    12-lane center that added six more in 1991, was erected in

    1959. It has had four managers since: Joe Baumer (1960-

    1996), Ron Baumer (1996-2006), JR Baumer (2006-08)

    and current head Chad Berning. The associates are Scott

    Bergman and Matt Doenges.

    Four full-time and two part-time employees assist in theoperation of the facility which is open for business noon

    to 1 a.m. Monday/Wednesday/Thursday, noon to 11 p.m.

    Tuesday/Sunday and noon to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

    League opportunities include:Mens: 7 p.m. Monday (5-person teams); 6:30 p.m.

    Wednesday (5-person teams); and 9 p.m. Thursday (4-per-son teams).

    Womens: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (4-person teams); 9 p.m.Wednesday (4-person teams); and 6:30 p.m. Thursday

    (4-person teams).

    Mixed: 7 p.m. (3-person teams) and 11:45 p.m. Thursday

    (2- or 3-person teams).

    Ma and Pa: 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday (bowls every

    other week).

    There have been 10 300 games bowled at the facility,

    four in the last two seasons. The high series was by Galen

    Collier of 802.

    Dan Swiger runs Swigers Pro Shop at the center.

    The bar owns a Nightclub license with draft and domes-

    tic beer and liquor with Sunday sales.

    Kitchen hours for the restaurant are 4-11 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday/Sunday, featuring

    sandwiches, subs, appetizers, pizza and award-winning

    wings. They also cater in-house parties and special events

    of any size, with a specialty of the wedding meal.

    Northland Lanes (1730 North Union, Lima; (419) 224-

    1961) since 1961.

    The business began in 1958.

    With 24 lanes and 30 employees, it is well-equipped to

    meet the needs of area bowling enthusiasts.

    There are league opportunities on a nightly basis:

    Monday: Mixed 4-person teams.

    Tuesday: Ladies Handicap.

    Mother-in-law: 1) The 7 pin; 2) the back pin in a sleeper situ-ation.

    Oneinthedark: Rear pin in the 1-5, 2-8 or 3-9 spare. (barmaid,bicycle, double wood, motherinlaw, sleeper, tandem)Poison ivy: The 3-6-10. Poodle: To roll a gutter ball.Rail: 1) The 1-2-4-7 or 1-3-6-10 spare; a little rail is the rail

    minus one of the end pins (1, 7, or 10). (picket fence) 2) Theoutside board of a lane, usually made of harder wood such asmaple, which with wear may stand above the inner playingsurface and cause balls to track along it rather than go intothe channel.

    Railroad: A wide open split with both pins on the same line(4-6, 7-9, 8-10, 7-10). (hole)

    Sleeper: A pin directly behind another pin; respectively: 8-4,5-1, 9-3. (barmaid, bicycle, double wood, motherinlaw, one-inthedark, tandem)

    Snake eyes: The 7-10 split. (bedposts, fence posts, goal posts,

    mule ears)Sour apple: 1) Weak ball which leaves the 5-7, 5-10 or 5-7-10split; 2) specifically, the 5-7-10 split.

    Three quarter bucket: Three of the four pins of the bucket;three of the 2-4-5-8, 1-2-3-5, or 3-5-6-9.

    Tripped 4: When the 2 pin takes out the 4 by bouncing off thekickback.

    Washout: The 1-2-10 or 1-2-4-10 for right-handers and the1-3-7 or 1-3-6-7 for lefties.

    Water in the ball: A weak ball, one that leaves an 8-10, 5-7or 5-10.
