FACILITIES

The Pioneers enjoy some of the finest facilities in the country at the junior college level.

The biggest addition to the WOSC facilities has been the building of a second indoor

hitting facility in the summer of 2011. The new building gives the Pioneers two indoor

hitting facilities that consists of a total of ten cages, two pitching lanes, and a film room.

The softball program also has the availability of two weight rooms and a heated indoor

The 2012 Western Oklahoma State softball team won over 40 games for the second consecutive season. The club finished with a 45-13 record marking the only two 40+ wins seasons in program history. The Pioneers set 14 school records in 2012 and had six players named to the All-Region Team. 2012 also resulted in two Western players receiving a "National Player of the Week" honor. The Pioneers were ranked in the top 20 nationally all season and were as high as number 14.

Samantha Betts, Emery Fox, Tori Jones, Martha Thomas, Kelsey Watson were all named 1st Team All-Region and LeNae Sanchez made 2nd Team All-Region. Fox and Thomas were both named "National Player of the Week" once during the 2012 season.

The Pioneers had eight single season individual records set by four players. Sophomore second baseman Martha Thomas set four records including doubles (24), hits (84), on-base percentage (.516), and runs (71). Freshman first baseman Emery Fox set records for hit by pitch (7) and rbi's (84). Sophomore center fielder Ty Washington broke the record for walks with 50. Freshman pitcher Kelsey Watson set a new record for strikeouts with 243.

The 2012 club set four team records. Their 110 doubles broke the 2011 team's record of 93. The Pioneer offense was hit by a pitch 29 times to break the 2009 record of 16. Western produced 406 rbi's passing the 2011 team's mark of 394. Lastly, the Pioneer pitching staffed totaled 432 strikeouts passing the 2011 team's 305.

Stevie Anderson, Cynthia Barrera, Samantha Betts, Shelby Gallant, Tori Jones, Hillary Ratliff, LeNae Sanchez, Martha Thomas, and Ty Washington all finished their final season at Western in 2012. Samantha Betts finished her career as a Pioneer with 50 wins in the circle and 363 strikeouts in two years and was named 1st Team All-Region both years. Martha Thomas finished her Western career hitting .415 with 35 home runs and was a two time 1st Team All-Region player. Ty Washington was named 1st Team All-Region once and finished her Pioneer career with a .453 on-base percentage and 18 home runs. Tori Jones was named 1st Team All-Region once and hit 16 home runs in her career at Western. Cynthia Barrera finished with a .344 batting average at Western. Hillary Ratliff hit .309 in her two years as a Pioneer. LeNae Sanchez finished her Pioneer career with 11 home runs and was named 2nd Team All-Region once. Stevie Anderson hit .358 with a .452 on-base percentage in her lone year at Western.

"This 2012 club continued to progress us toward our goals of winning championships here at Western," said head coach Mike McBrayer. "You're never happy unless you win the last one of the season but each year we take another step and are now at a point where people know who we are nationally and consider us as one of the top programs out there. It's a good feeling to get that kind of respect and to no longer be under the radar. It's a result of a lot of hard work and support from players, coaches, administration, and others in our softball family."
