Cofaco has its first origin in the Algarve, a traditional and for centuries, a very rich tuna fishing ground. Cofaco Açores moved his factories to the Azores Archipelago in 1962, a strategic place on the tuna’s migratory routes in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.With more than 50 years of existence, Cofaco’s heritage comes from the Portuguese ancient and very strong passion for the sea and all its natural resources. To live from the Sea, means that first, you have to respect it. The crystal Azores waters are abundant in marine life, but not inexhaustible, this means its resources have to be respected and well managed, in order to assure its use by future generations.The predominant fishing method in the Azores islands is still the same as the one used centuries ago, the “pole and line” technique, guaranties the least environmental impact and allows for a superior quality product. Each fish is carefully selected, according to its weight and “goodness” level. At our two production units (São Miguel and Pico), every fish is cleaned and cut by the same hands that have been doing so for 50 years, and have passed on the art to the younger generations.Cofaco Açores employs 600 people, between production and administrative teams. We process around 15 M tons of tuna fish per year. Cofaco Açores had in 2013 a total turnover of 70 million Euros.We lead the Portuguese market with our dear Bom Petisco brand in the canned tuna fish segment. In the International market we are present in more than 30 countries and we continue to improve our performance, in 2013 the export revenue, represented 35% of company’s total turnover. The main brand is Bon Appetit which represents the wider range of Cofaco products such as: tuna, Portuguese sardines, mackerel and several others.

COMPANY Faster, Co. was founded in 2002 and began its activities on 2003; It is located in the middle central territory of Portugal, next to Coimbra, in a village called Lousã; With its own industrial park and good accessible roads Lousã has seen a tremendous increase of its population in the last decade offering a diverse workforce; Faster, Co. has initiated its activities on the production of snack food/appetizers (such as: croquettes, patties and codfish cakes), but it has quickly extended its production to frozen Ready Meals; HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Since 2003 that Faster, Co. has been acknowledging the national market and has been improving its recipes and its method of production; Faster, Co is currently a national food manufacturer of reference. Besides robot controllers there are also human controllers during the production. There are at least eight check-points on the confection of Faster’s, Co. products. The bacteriological control and the no use of chemicals during the manufacturing line are guaranteed. The company works in accordance with the standards imposed by HACCP procedures (Hazard analysis and critical control points), ie, with the implemented system of Self-Control which is under the European Community regulations, and the procedure of ISO 22000 certification. Cistér Industria de Produtos Alimentares, Lda, founded in December 1999, is a firm mostly industrial in the ambit of canned leguminous, fruits, derivates of tomato and juices.It has at its disposal large capacity and high technological level equipment which allows a full guarantee to their customers in supply capacity and in quality of the products.
The group integrates Raimundo & Maia, Lda and Cistér Industria de Produtos Alimentares, Lda, with a presence in the food market since 65 years ago, dominating completely not only the commercial area but also the industrial part of the products it commercializes.Its products have a strong presence in the national market, having also an important component of exports.
Raimundo & Maia, Lda, established in May 1946, has had from the very beginning as main business “dry beans” which gives them a profound knowledge of the product they put in the market.Dry fruit are the second line of products which they commercialize and the quantities put in the market, have given them the possibility to acquire through the years a remarkable knowledge of the products.Cistér trademark is his brand of canned products, namely leguminous (beans and peas), fruit and tomato derivates.The brand is in the market since 1919, a tradition of quality and knowledge of the best conservators.
The company core business are the cooked beans namely: White beans, red beans, black beans, black-eye-beans, Canela beans, as well as cooked vegetable as mixed vegetables.
One of the business area are the dry nuts. Under our brand Cistér Nuts the company sells salted roasted peanuts, cashew, salted almonds, pistachio and different mixed nuts.
