COMMUNITY SERVICEEvery year, the UTSA Soccer team has devoted its time not just on the field, but off the field as well. They are involved in several community service events such as the Habitat for Humanity, the Wounded Warrior Project, Haven for Hope, Roadrunner Day Move-In, the Medina Children’s Clothing Drive, UTSA summer camps and delivering turkey to local food shelters. Their support for the community is a way to not only promote UTSA Athletics but UTSA to the city of San Antonio. In January 2015, the soccer team received the Outstanding Mentoring Program Award by the San Antonio Mentoring Forum.

dayton ‘03 Greg Sheen was announced as the second head coach in program history on April 27, 2015, and the former Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Coach of the Year is in his third season at UTSA after serving as the interim head coach a season ago following a stint as an assistant coach in 2013. Last season as interim head coach, Sheen led the Roadrunners to a 6-10-2 record, which was an improvement from the team’s 2013 mark. UTSA also saw an improved offensive attack that featured an increase in goals, shots, shots-on-goal percentage, assists and corner kicks. Under Sheen’s tutelage, Anissa Munson set the program’s single-season assists record with eight, including a school-record-tying three assists in a win at Texas State. Following the season, Munson was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, which was the first of many academic awards for the program. A total of 16 student-athletes were named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or better), while seven players received the league’s Academic Medal (3.75 GPA or better). The squad’s seven academic medals were the most by any UTSA sport. In addition, the team earned the Outstanding Mentoring Program award from the San Antonio Mentoring Forum. As an assistant in 2013, he helped the Roadrunners establish a home field advantage in their first season as a member of Conference USA. Under Sheen’s tutelage, the UTSA defense shut out all five of its league opponents at the new Park West Athletics Complex and the team had just a 0.80 goals-against average versus C-USA foes. Goalie Emma Makela earned second-team All-Conference USA and All-Freshman Team honors after recording 90 saves. Sheen came to UTSA in 2013 after serving the previous three seasons as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Wright State. He helped lead the Raiders to 30 wins and a pair of appearances in the Horizon League Tournament Championship game (2011-12) during his three campaigns. Before his time at Wright State, Sheen was the head coach at Morehead State in 2004 and guided the squad to a 9-9-1 record, which marked the sixth most-improved Division I ledger in the country, and earned OVC Coach of the Year honors. In addition to his time at Morehead State, the Arlington native also has served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Dayton (1999-2003), Texas (2005-06) and Miami (Fla.) (2008-09). He helped guide these squads to a total of five

NCAA Tournament appearances, including a spot in the 2001 Sweet Sixteen with the Flyers. Prior to his coaching career, Sheen played professional soccer with the A-League’s Atlanta Ruckus during the outdoor season, while he spent indoor campaigns with the Atlanta Attack of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). Sheen, who has a USSF B coaching license, earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in sport management from Dayton in 2003. He is married to the former Gena Draney and the couple has seven children: Meghan, Hannah, Catherine, Chelsee, Brandon, Dakota and Sierra.

eaStern new MexiCo ‘08 Stephanie Sanchez is in her third season as an assistant coach at UTSA, where she mentors the goalkeepers. Last season, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 3-1 record and improved its win total over the 2013 campaign. UTSA goalies posted four shutouts, including a season-opening win over Houston Baptist and a 5-0 whitewashing of Southern Miss to close the fall. Following the campaign, Anissa Munson was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, which was the first of many academic awards for the program. In 2013, she helped the Roadrunners establish a home field advantage in their first season as a member of Conference USA. Under Sanchez’s guidance, the UTSA defense shut out all five of its league opponents at the new Park West Athletics Complex and the team had just a 0.80 goals-against average versus C-USA foes. Goalie Bubba Makela notched six shutouts and earned second-team All-Conference USA and All-Freshman Team honors after recording 90 saves, which ranked third in the league. Sanchez joined the Roadrunners staff in 2013 after serving as the associate head coach at Western Texas College in the spring. Prior to that she spent five seasons coaching at Angelo State (three as an assistant, two as a graduate assistant), where she mentored the Rambelles goalkeepers and served as the team’s recruiting and video coordinator. Under Sanchez’s tutelage, Danielle Edwards earned Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and first-team all-conference honors in 2012. In 2010, she helped guide Angelo State to its first NCAA Tournament appearance as the squad set records for most wins (13) and shutouts (9) in a campaign. That season, the Rambelles were led by goalie and two-time second-team all-conference selection Melanie Peterson, who owns the school record for goals-against average.

A four-year starter at Eastern New Mexico from 2004-07, Sanchez was a Lone Star Honorable Mention selection and team captain in her final two seasons. The Belen, N.M., native, who also was on the Lone Star Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times, earned the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award twice and owns the school’s all-time saves record (397). Sanchez, who holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) C coaching license, graduated from Eastern New Mexico in 2008 with a psychology and sociology degree before she earned her master’s degree in applied psychology from Angelo State two years later.

The Bremanger, Norway, native is one of two players in program history to earn first-team all-conference honors twice when she was placed on the Southland Conference’s top squad in 2010 and 2011. Playing mostly as a defender, she recorded eight goals and nine assists for a total of 25 points in her four seasons. All three of those marks rank in the school’s top 10. As a freshman in 2010, she was the only rookie on the league’s first team and she set a program record with 1,820 minutes on the pitch. She had three game-winning goals on the season and helped lead the Roadrunners to their first Southland Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
