My recommended book for this month is: Turn the Ship Around!: A True Story of Turning Followers into Leaders by L. David Marquet (Author), Stephen R. Covey (Foreword)

Review from Amazon "Leadership should mean giving control rather than taking control and creating leaders rather than forging followers." David Marquet, an experienced Navy officer, was used to giving orders. As newly appointed captain of the USS Santa Fe, a nuclear-powered submarine, he was responsible for more than a hundred sailors, deep in the sea. In this high-stress environment, where there is no margin for error, it was crucial his men did their job and did it well. But the ship was dogged by poor morale, poor performance, and the worst retention in the fleet.

MARKETING TRENDS

The Dawn of New Era

In recent years 3D printing has completely changed the way we produce things – from toys to tools and even body parts. The potential of this technology is very impressive and it is expected to have an even greater impact on various industries in the future.

The technology has helped engineers who have been able to make new kinds of prototypes of cars, parts for the aircraft industry, weapons, and even parts and tools for NASA’s space missions. Besides that, engineers are currently working on devices that print food, like the one for 3D printing of chocolate. I believe that because of the chocolate 3D printing device, many of you will like this technology even more. 3D printing is also changing the rules of the game in the fashion industry too, by enabling the creation of new fabrics and materials.

Real es tate can also benefit from the techno logy. Recently, a Chinese company began building 3D-printed houses that a re being sold for very reasonable prices. T h i s i s a n o t h e r confirmation of the financial efficiency that arises from the technology of 3D printing. It can be used in: architecture, design, computer science, education, engineering, aeronautics, metallurgy, modeling, medicine, bio-modeling, geo-info systems, molecular chemistry, and a lot more.

3D printing gives engineers and designers the ability to get a clear insight in the flow of the designing process, the possibility of a variety, the possibility of an easy and early detection of potential errors and a rapid and effective rectification. Because of these characteristics, 3D printing significantly reduces the complexity of product development and increases the likelihood of creating quality models and prototypes.

So, it seems more than clear that the era of 3D printing is near. Soon, engineers will be able to create a huge variety of items of different lengths, widths, and heights. Perhaps the more important thing, however, is that these products will be sold for lower prices than traditionally manufactured products. This is a huge advantage for consumers, making a host of things affordable for a bigger portion of the community.

HP’s Current Financial Situation

HP recorded a fall in revenue for the fourth consecutive quarter. The results showed that the company is suffering from weak sales of personal computers and weak demand for their services by other companies.

HP’s profit forecast for the year was revised and is now well below analysts' expectations.

The CEO, Meg Whitman, said that the factors that are currently putting pressure on the company are expected to have the same impact in the fourth quarter, and in the next fiscal year too.

This 76-year-old company is struggling to adapt to new market conditions. The biggest move in that direction was the split into two separate companies – the end result of a multi-year restructuring process started by Whitman, which aimed at reducing costs and improving profit margins. The plan included 55,000 layoffs, although Chief Financial Officer Cathie Lesjak said earlier this year more staff will be let go.

From November, HP Inc. deals in PCs, printers, and other hardware, and Hewlett-Packard Enterprises is the corporate services business of the old company, a rapidly growing business, at that.

The restructuring has been inevitable. The inexorable reduction in PC sales has been affecting severely the results of the company: HP recorded a sales decrease in 15 of the last 16 quarters. For its full fiscal year, HP expects an adjusted profit of $3.59 – $3.65 per share, which is below the average forecast of analysts.

New Bluetooth Label Maker Allows Wireless Printing Directly From Phone

The new Epson LabelWorks LW600-P Bluetooth label maker provides innovative and easy-to-use technology when printing out labels. After downloading the free Epson iLabel app, one can choose from multiple fonts and colors to design a label and then print it out wirelessly via Bluetooth. Epson has also released several different types of label tape with a range of colors and textures, including glow-in-the-dark and iron-on.

This label maker is especially helpful for the holidays, as one can replace the label tape with a ribbon cartridge. However, the label maker does not allow for one label to have multiple fonts or font sizes, and the ribbon is high quality but rather expensive. Although the label maker can print with no problems from a mobile device, it seems that it must be connected via USB if one is trying to print from a computer. All in all, the Epson LabelWorks LW600-P is fast and convenient for those people that like to stay organized and are looking for a quick, easy and fun way to design and print labels.

Will 3D Printing be the Future of Whole World?3D printing is an additive manufacturing technology where an item is created by adding a material layer by layer. This method saves materials compared to conventional technology in which the extra material is being eliminated.

3D printing allows you to create objects directly from 3D computer models. There are a number of tools for 3D modeling (most of them are free) with which after a few hours of training you can independently make a 3D model of the desired objects and materialize them on a 3D printer.

We should also not forget about 3D scanning –which is a combination of 3D scanners and 3D printers that works like a copier.

Among the main advantages of 3D printing are its speed and simplicity, but also the ability to create objects with a combination of different materials, without the need to connect them post-production. Basically, you need a 3D model of the object that you want to print, which normally should be saved in STL format. STL is a standard format supported by different types of software for 3D modeling.

Then the 3D printer generates a set of commands required to print objects. The item, most commonly, is being printed layer by layer. A typical thickness of the layer is 0.1 mm, although it depends on the technology that is being used and it can range from a few microns to a few centimeters. The first layer is printed on the surface of a print bed, as it’s called and then the printhead or printheads add layer after layer until the object is complete.

Yet this is just the most common type of 3D printing technology. Recent years have seen a lot of innovations and the design of new and dif ferent 3D pr int ing technologies that utilize, for instance, laser beams, which create the item by melting together the particles of a powdered material (Selective Laser Sintering), or by curing the item from a pool of liquid resin (Stereolitography).

The printing time depends on the type of item and its complexity, as well as on the technology that is being used. The process can last from a few minutes to a few hours. I wise man once said: I will not be surprised by technology until the time when people can print food.

3D Printing Powders Market to Expand at 24% CAGR by 2020A report by Marketsandmarkets has found that the market of powders used in 3D printing – including metals, ceramics, and plastics – will expand at an annual compound growth rate of 24.4% in the period 2015-2020, reaching a size of $636.9 million at the end of the period. The drivers behind this development include the expiry of key patents, which will stimulate further tech advancements in the laser sintering niche, and new product developments.

As regards use, powders seem to be most popular with aerospace and defense, with these two accounting for roughly a third of the market, with other leasding industries including medical devices and carmaking. With respect to type of powders, metals are currently the dominant ones. In terms of markets, North America continues to lead the parade, followed by the Asia-Pacific as the second-largest growth market for 3D printing powders.

New 3D Printing TechniqueIf the first industrial revolution began with the invention of the steam engine, and the second with the use of oil and electricity, then we can say that the third began several years ago when engineers started using 3D printers.

3D printing is not that complicated a technology to understand, it is actually a very easy way to quickly create an object that you have previously designed with the help of a specialized computer program. It may at first sound like rocket science, it's actually very simple, and is already being used in a huge number of areas.

What’s more, 3D printing lends itself to al l sorts of innovations. Recently, an industrial designer named Otto Souta, who lives in London, decided to experiment with 3D printing using different materials. After spending a lot of time on experimenting and researching, Souta decided to use a physics phenomenon called Total Internal Reflection or TIR, to create a new technique that adds shine to a variety of 3D printing filaments.

To all those who are not familiar with this phenomenon, which is most of us, TIR is basically a phenomenon that combines refraction and reflection, producing a sparkling effect in the material being used for 3D printing an item. Souta’s technique makes thousands of 3D printed internal

reflectors, which add shine to jewelry and accessories.

The best part is that all the products that he printed with the help of this technique were very lightweight. Souta, however, is not stopping there. He will continue working on this project and is also thinking of selling or licensing this 3D printing technique to some leading company that specializes in the design and marketing of jewelry.

Toshiba Boasts Fastest Metal 3D PrinterIn the latest example of tech companies getting on the 3D printing wagon, Japan’s Toshiba announced it had built a metal 3D printer that can work ten times faster than all the machines currently available on the market. The final prototype of the printer is being prepared for 2017.

According to the company, its machine, which uses the laser metal deposition method – powdered metal shaped by a laser beam – can print t speeds of 110 cubic centimeters an hour. It can also print larger objects, and more cheaply at that. With this, Toshiba’s machine clearly addresses two of the biggest problems in metal 3D printing to date: speed and cost. It looks like a growing number of companies are getting interested in this particular niche, not least because of its huge potential for a wide range of industries.

Adidas Showcases 3D Printed, All-Recycled SneakersAdidas showcased last week a new concept sneaker that is entirely made by recycled materials and that features a 3D printed midsole made from recycled fishing nets. The rest of the shoe is made from recycled ocean plastic. The midsole design employs Adidas’ Futurecraft technology that aims to offer consumers shoes tailor-made for the shape of their feet. This combines with a growing awareness of the state of the oceans and what could be done to improve it. Adidas’ concept model is part of its environmental protection partnership with Parley for the Oceans – an initiative focusing on encouraging companies and individuals to find new, productive uses of plastic waste recovered from the ocean.

Apple Applies for 3D Printer PatentThe latest among the big names to reveal plans to enter the 3D printing space is Apple, whose patent for a 3D printer became public just last week, although it was submitted

last year. The patent is for a machine that, interestingly, can at the same time print an object and apply color to it. The purpose, according to the application, is to increase 3D printing’s appeal for households and businesses across more industries. Apple has correctly identified one of the major hurdles to the wider adoption of 3D printing: colors. Like high-speed printing, multicolor 3D printed objects have been difficult to achieve and are considered to be the main problem with household adoption of the technology. Not that it’s difficult to make – it just need more extruders – but it does significantly raise the price of the printer.

Apple seems to have found a solution to this problem by designing a printer with just two extruders. One prints the object and the other releases different color inks to paint it as it is being printed. This sounds like a cheap alternative to the multiple nozzle but it naturally raises the question of speed. While it’s true that households are less likely to be in need of fast 3D printers, speed is always an advantage when you market such a product.

3D Systems Prepares Job Cuts3D Systems, one of the biggest players in the 3D printing field is planning to cut between 80 and 85 jobs in the latest sign that the 3D printing industry is becoming a place where it’s getting increasingly difficult even for big players to survive. Perhaps this is even true for big players than for startups. The decision to downsize its workforce comes on the heels of disappointing third-quarter results, including a revenue decline of 9% to $151.6 million and a net loss of $0.29 per share. So, it seems that 3D Systems is doing what any company in trouble is doing, and in the same way: cutting costs in all ways possible. The situation is particularly difficult for the company, though, after it lost $11 million in an arbitration case concerning the co-founder of one of the companies 3D Systems acquired during its shopping spree in the last few years. The person said he was owed a share of revenues from the technology his company had developed but he was instead fired with no compensation of this kind.

New Balance Strikes Deal with 3D SystemsSportswear maker New Balance has partnered with 3D Systems on a new like of running shoes that will feature 3D-printed midsoles. The company explained that 3D printing allows for a much greater optimization of materials and structures, so by using it, it was able to combine all

the desirable characteristics of a good running shoe, including flexibility, strength, durability, and weight. Of course, there is also the customization factor that is not to be underestimated. The new line is expected in mid-spring next year, but only at select locations, later t0o be rolled out more widely.

Stratasys Takes Part in Metal 3D Printing Startup FundingStratasys was among the backers of startup Desktop Metal, a company showing promise in the metal 3D printing niche. The funding round, which generated $14 million, also involved venture capital providers NEA, Kleiner Perkins Caulfield Byers, and Lux Capital.

Desktop Metal’s stated goal is to revolutionize the niche by creating an affordable, faster, and smaller direct-metal 3D printer. The existing ones available on the market are bulky, slow and expensive as a rule. According to the startup’s founder Ric Fulop, a man with a long experience in tech startups, the printer that is being developed by Desktop Metal will not use laser sintering, which is the common tech used in metal 3D printers. No further details have been disclosed so far, although some media have reported the machine will work with a jetting technology.

Formlabs Releases Form 2Formlabs has showcased its new stereolitography 3D printer, Form 2, that improves on its flagship Form 1 in more than one way. First, Form 2 does away with the time-consuming process of filling a tank with liquid resin because the printer fills the tank itself. Second, the company has introduced a self-leveling system that prevents the print from turning into a shapeless lump of resin, which was apt to happen sometimes with Form 1. Third, the Form 2 has a larger print area: 5.7x5.7x6.9 inches. Fourth, the printed objects have higher resolution. Possibly the only drawback is that the finished print, which is made from light sensitive resin, still needs to be cured in isopropyl alcohol, which makes the Form 2 unsuitable for use in schools, for examples, because of the potential hazards associated with the curing process. For colleges or small offices, however, the printer could be a good solution.

Introducing the New Injection Moulded 3D PrinterArburg, a company l inked with injection moulding equipment, has introduced a new additive manufacturing

machine called Freeformer. This is a breakthrough in the current manufacturing methods that are presently utilised in the market.

The company said it believes that its printer is more than just a prototyping machine like other similar 3D printers. It will also be a solution that supports the growing market trend for shorter product life cycles, the demand for high-quality products, and personalization of mass production. The technology is based on the Arburg Plastic Freeforming (AFK) and the Freeformer process.

Arburg Ltd managing director, Colin T irel, said the company sees Freeformer as a massive technology step for their company. “We have always considered ourselves a technology innovator not a technology adopter and this is a superb example of this philosophy. It will enable us to offer our customers cutting edge technology which we can strategically align with our injection moulding and robot application technology portfolio to meet our customer's short and long term requirements," he explained.

The technology Consultant for the Freeformer, Martin Neff, added that Freeformer will make plastic prototypes a thing of the past.

“A key feature is the use of standard granulate polymer at cost of Eu3 per kilo – the incumbent specialist material can cost Eu300 per kilo, providing a strong argument for this machine. And Freeformer requires little prior training,” he said.

This Freeformer is the first known additive manufacturing machine which was developed by a plastic injection moulding technology business. It can be seen as a breakthrough with respect to demand for shorter product life cycles, the production of high-quality parts and the personalization of mass produced plastic items.

The Freeformer is a part of Arburg’s latest connected technology for "Industry 4.0." These digital solutions associate products and machines in a strategic internet of things in the Smart factory, and allow greater levels of general customization of parts in the coming future.

Bob Cook of Rotary Motion Technologies, a customer of Arburg Ltd, noted, “Companies like ours need to respond

Page 19: 2016 1 141

MARKET SEGMENTS

19www.rechargeasia.com

141th Issue - January 2016

19www.rechargeasia.com

to this because it is the way technology will go in the future – it is part of a trend for lightweighting, methods to reduce global warming, to produce parts efficiently and reduce development costs.” He also said that at some point, cars will be manufactured completely from plastic elements, such the engine, thus additive manufacturing business will play a vital role and will continue to level up.

The Freeforming ProcessThe patented Arburg Plastic Freeforming (AFP) process has been thoroughly developed to be more easily available to companies who are dealing with plastic processes – mainly with injection moulding. It is done by utilizing a standardized polymer granulate which is far more affordable than other additive manufacturing materials.

When it comes to injection moulding, granulate is first melted in a specialised plasticizing cylinder. Then, a still discharge unit with a special nozzle applies the plastic droplets onto a movable part carrier, layer by layer. This is done using a high-frequency piezo technology at a cycle of 60 to 200Hz. The droplets blend together while they cool. This process lets uniform material displacement and makes strong and thoroughly functional parts. Freeformer’s construction chamber gives space for items with maximum dimensions of 190 x 135 x 250mm. Based on the type of nozzle used, the diameter of the plastic droplets collected under pressure range between 0.18 and 0.3 millimetres.

The Freeformer is designed with a standard movable 3-axis part carrier and 2 stationary discharge units. The second discharge unit is also used for additional component to be able to produce a part in various colours, for instance. This is also enhanced with special tactile attributes, or as a hard-soft combination. When needed, the Freeformer can also create structures from specialized support material. This allows it to complete complex and unusual geometric designs. The excess structures are later eliminated through a water bath.

What is unique in today’s additive manufacturing is the combination of standard elastic TPU material including reversible supporting structures. Other possible combinations and applications are bellows, sleeves, or other flexible components for robotic grippers.

As an option, support can be built up in the very same material as the component itself. A thin intermediate

layer with a especially generated set of breaking points allows the supporting structure to easily be broken off by machines at later stages. This alternative is chosen for parts with a free-standing construction and well-defined edges.

3D CAD for the components being produced (STL files) is processed offline, with the exclusive software creating the essential manufacturing data through slicing. The great news is there are no special programming or other skills that are required in this respect.

Skriware – The Latest Cheap 3D PrinterA team of Polish engineers and designers has built Skriware – a low-cost, very user-friendly 3D printer. The tam’s goal, as stated by them, was to create a machine which would allow printing with the minimum of human participation. Basically, you get a design from a online marketplace, send it to Skriware and it prints it, while you sit and enjoy the process. Besides the ease of use, Skriware’s second major advantage is its price tag, which is just $799. To make it so cheap, its creators simplified the printhead and made it work with materials that require less heat. Skriware should hit markets in April next year.

World’s First Inkjet Metal 3D Printer Will Launch in 2016According to the Times of Israel, Xjet, an Israeli start-up, is planning to bring the world’s first direct-metal 3D printer based on jetting technology to market in 2016. Xjet is planning on pioneering the metals market by creating a more budget-friendly printer that uses jetting technology in the 3d printing of metals.

Xjet’s 3D printer features its patented Nano Metal Jetting technology. Unlike other 3D printers, Xjet’s 3D printer forms parts from liquid metals instead of powder metals. Xjet is creating its own liquid metals by mixing special liquid with small particles of specific metals. Chief Business Officer of Xjet and former VP of sales and business at Objet, Dror Danai, told the Times of Israel, “We are starting with stainless steel, and expect the printers and the liquid metal to be on the market in 2016. After that we will work on other metals. Eventually we hope to get to all the major metals used in manufacturing.”

The CEO of Xjet is not a stranger to success. Hanan Gothait founded Objet, another 3D printing company which

merged with Stratasys in 2012. Along with Danai, Gothait seems to be making a comeback with his new company. Xjet is backed by companies such as Applied Material and Landa Ventures.

Stainless steel is the ideal material to start working with. The metal is common and easy to develop. Materials science is a large portion of Xjet. Danai was quoted saying “Fifty out of our 62 employees are engineers, and many of them are specialists in materials. Relative to our size, I think we may have the highest percentage of engineers of any tech company anywhere.”

Cost and speed are the two biggest obstacles within the metal additive printing industry. Xjet aims to keep its printer’s cost affordable, even for small companies. If Xjet is able to produce a printer that excels in both categories, competitors may see a loss in business.

3D Printing Will Change Face of Consumer Electronics, Says Dassault Official3D printing will change the way consumer ele4ctronics are made, according to a Dassault Systemes official. Chandan Chowdhury, managing director for the multinational company’s Indian operations, announced the firm, which is among the top 3D printing software developers, will present a virtual universe technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

He explained that the technology includes a platform and a set of applications that have the potential to transform the manufacturing landscape of consumer electronics. "For example, users of the technology can experience a 3D application combined with a virtual reality set developed by HTC to sketch ideas and turn them into reality. They can also virtually redesign their homes using 3D technology and navigate the cities of the future," Chowdhury said.

3D Printing Helps Create Cheap Water Purifying SolutionThe Drinkable Book is a project realized by Water is Life, a non-profit tackling the problem of lack of access to clean water for roughly two billion people, saving lives. The project uses a filtering technology developed by McGill University researcher Theresa Dankovich, festuring silver nanoparticles that kill 99% of the pathogenic bacteria that

cause water-borne diseases. These filters, made to look like the pages of a book, with clean water tips printed on them, are held in a 3D printed container that can be used together with the filter to purify water. The Drinakble Book is cheap and easy to use, in fact it is the cheapest water purification solution currently available, with every filter capable of purifying a month’s worth of drinking water.

3D Printed Planes by 2050According to a recent article in Forbes, Airbus and Autodesk, two large and competitive companies are planning to make a 3D printed aircraft in which passengers will feel like traveling in the clouds. The news is pretty amazing and readers are really excited about this. Airbus is set on utilizing new opportunities and bringing innovative products to its customers.

This could bring a bigger logistics freedom because any of the airplane parts could be produced anywhere where there is a base equipped with a 3D printer.

3D printing is widely believed to hold great promise for the future of manufacturing. It is worth reminding that in 2013 NASA announced they have plans to send a 3D printer to the International Space Station, which astronauts would use for making certain tools or parts. The plan became a reality earlier this year.

The concept 3D printed plane, which should become a reality by 2050, features a self-cleaning system and air enriched with antioxidants, although the project partners did not give any details about the design.

Turning this idea into reality would require a huge 3D printer but if the project succeeds, the final result would be a very light plane, probably around 65 percent lighter than the current ones, but at the same time, a lot less expensive to operate.

The initial steps have already been taken, engineers are working on their plans, and are experimentingwith a variety of materials in order to create the prototype.

"It's not theoretically impossible, you can design new products that are not all solid and aluminum, but a composite material. You're designing new substances,”

Dutch Company Educates About the Environmental Impact of Plastic FilamentsEveryone knows that 3D pr int ing is an incredible technology that is changing the face of manufacturing and will impact many industries in the future. While this is very exciting, Camilla Bracey of Dutch based company Better Future Factory seeks to remind people of the environmental impact 3D printing can have.

The most common 3D printers use plastic filaments to create objects. It is reported that every year the 3D printing industry uses approximately 30 million pounds of plastic, and that number is estimated to rise to 250 million pounds a year by 2020. The plastic industry has a drastic impact on our environment, and more specifically coral reefs. Approximately 12,000 square kilometers of reefs are expected to die as a result of what is called a global coral bleaching, caused by a drastic rise in ocean temperatures as a result of our CO2 emissions. Since 3D printing is dependent on plastic, it has a major impact on this deterioration of coral reefs.

Full Circle Textiles’ goal is to get makers to fully commit themselves to using recycled plastic filaments, which use only 1/3 of the CO2 emissions that the creation of virgin plastic requires. Furthermore, with the switch to recycled plastic, considerably less plastic will end up in the ocean. To remind users of their environmental impact and to encourage people to make more ecological decisions, Camilla Bracey has designed a 3D printed shopping bag made entirely from recycled plastic.

With more and more recycled fi laments becoming available, it should get easier in the future to make the ecological choice and stick with fully recycled plastics for 3D printing.

Cosplay and 3D Printing; A Match Made in HeavenMany people throughout the world enjoy the popular practice of Cosplay, which involves bringing fantasy characters from videogames and cartoons to life through elaborate costumes and makeup. With the fast developing

technology of 3D printing, making these costumes possible is now easier than ever.

For designers everywhere, 3D printing is bringing about incredible opportunities to make their designs a reality in an incredibly efficient and precise way. For Lloyd Roberts, a designer of costumes and accessories for the purpose of Cosplay, 3D printing is exactly what he needed to help build the 2D costumes found in video games in three dimensions. After a 3D printed sword that he designed went viral, he decided to use his 3D printer to open up a costume and prop business for Cosplayers and other virtual world fanatics. His business is picking up speed as people realize the potential 3D printing has to alter the world of Cosplay forever. With accuracy being a fundamental part of Cosplay costumes, 3D printing is the perfect technology to make sure everything is as precise as possible.

Boy Gets 3D Printed Robo-HandA six-yea old from Kentucky born with a malformed right hand has been given a robo-limb, 3D printed by bioengineering students from the University of Louisville. In fact, Lucas Abraham has gotten three hands, for variety for backup. The team that produced them said they used tendon-like cords, which allow the boy to use the hand as a natural limb, controlling its movements by bending his wrist. What’s more, the hands were cheap to make, at just $50 apiece. To compare, a traditionally manufactured prosthetic limb costs thousands of dollars. "Though these hands are a first for the university," said bioengineering professor Gina Bertocci, "more could be made."

Nubeprint has read recently about just in time (JiT) and auto toner fulfillment (ATF) in the media. While one of the articles talked about the impossibility to have ATF technology in the MPS business, the other hailed the initiative of a technology vendor to adapt its technology to JiT. These look like contradictory reactions. But what is especially surprising is that both articles are signed by well-known MPS vendors. So we want to contribute to clearing any confusion that these communications may have caused in the industry by clarifying some aspects about JiT and ATF.

The first thing to understand is that ATF is only possible if JiT is in place. And JiT is meaningless if ATF is not following. Let us explain: JiT is as simple as being able to predict when a cartridge will be empty based on the consumption patterns of a specific printer. ATF uses this prediction to trigger the order of the right cartridge so that it gets to the right printer or copier right on time before the printer stops. In our opinion, talking about JiT and ATF as two separate things is meaningless. They are both part of the same unique thing that we will call AF (auto fulfillment). We don’t like too much the usage of ATF because it is pretty restrictive as it talks about “toner”, while we all know there are many other things than just toner in

a printer or copier, such as drums, waste bottle, transfer.

The second thing to keep in mind is that AF does not differentiate the devices. A dealer can’t tell their customer, “Listen, I will do AF for printer model A, but for the other 13 models you have, either you keep calling for ordering, or we replace the devices no matter if they are brand new MFPs”. The service must then apply to any printer the end-customer has.

The third aspect of the issue is that once you decide to automate the delivery of cartridges, you lose any control over duplicate deliveries. Bear in mind that 75% of the cost per page is the cost of supplies. So, should you ship a cartridge in excess, the chances that you recoup its costs are few, and in most cases you’ll end up losing money from this printer. So you must only automate if you are fully confident that the AF system is preventing you to ship any cartridge in excess. But this is not enough: you certainly must control what your profits per printer are. And we are not referring to the pricing you did when you built the proposal. We refer to how good your AF is executing: what cartridges have been shipped? When were they installed? How much toner was wasted in each installation? These are questions that must necessarily

be part of your AF strategy.

Knowing about these 3 aspects helps us understand that having AF in the MPS industry is certainly not an easy task. Take a look at your own MPS system and check if it complies will all above aspects. If the answer is no, don’t think you’ll get something different in the next release. If you do, you are wasting your time… and plenty of money. Getting to do AF requires a level of accuracy that none of the MPS software programs that were designed for just monitoring will ever reach. For these MPS vendors, JiT, ATF or whatever they call it is both a goal and a chimera.

But AF is a reality in the industry. It’s been there for over 5 years and fuels the MPS programs of the most profitable MPS providers worldwide. If you are serious in MPS, do not fear to shift from your unprofitable MPS software to an income generator SW with auto-fulfillment that just works.

HP’s New Platform Helion

Hewlett-Packard has added several new, pre-configured options to their Helion cloud services, in another sign that useful cloud computing is for business users. Helion VPC-Virtual Private Cloud is designed to meet the diverse computing requirements of tasks ranging from software development, to more demanding tasks such as launching complex ERP applications for enterprise resource planning. “The configurations are based on the data center and cloud usage that HP has found with its clients usage of the cloud,” said Jeff Moyer, HP senior director of global infrastructure and hosting services.

Launched in May 2014 and based on the OpenStack platform technology, HP Helion had to compete with platforms such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Since then, the company has managed to complete a number of projects related to the development of the platform itself, including ensuring the full interoperability environment with other cloud computing platforms, such as the most popularin the world- Amazon Web Services. Unofficially, it was said that the development of the HP Helion has attracted funds of about $1 billion.

Today, however, the HP platform Helion is no longer available for new users, and HP officially announced that they wil l be switching it off for three months. The decision on the closure of the cloud service was accompanied by a "redoubling of their efforts" related to the development and managing of the private cloud computing environments.

According to representat ives of the company’s management, the future corporate uses of the cloud will be hybrid solutions, grouped under the definition of “a cloud computing environment.” In such a context, the response to customer needs becomes a skillful combination of different environments and cloud-based technologies for local IT resources. HP's plans are now focused in the area of developing new cloud solutions.

HP Inc. Presents Virtual Reality Set for Medics

HP Inc., the hardware business of former HP, is hoping to bring into the medical field a new virtual reality product called Zvr. Despite its difficult-to-pronounce name, Zvr holds promise for diagnostics.

The set, developed in collaboration with medical imaging startup EchoPixel, includes a 23.6-inch display that shows images taken by four cameras that track the user’s head movements. These images are turned into 3D images via a pair of special glasses and can be moved around and manipulated by the user via a stylus.

In other words, Zvr allows doctors to see in 3D while examining image data from scans, typically appearing in 2D and hence more difficult to make sense of. The 3D set can help, for example, the identification of polyps, which are abnormal, though not always dangerous, tissue growths in various organs.

PaperLab – In-House Paper Recycling System

Epson has announced the launch of what it calls the first ever in-house paper recycling system, a machine dubbed PaperLab. It sounds nothing short of marvelous: you feed in used paper at one end and clean, ready to use A4 sheets come out the other end. The rate at which the paper is recycled is 14 A4 sheets a minute, which is pretty fast. By the way, the PaperLab is not confined to the A4 size: it can also churn out A3 sheets, colored paper, and thicker paper for things like business card. It can even make scented paper, Epson says. To make the list of attractive qualities complete, the PaperLab is the perfect alternative to the shredder. Because the machine disintegrates the fed-in paper to fibers, it’s the perfect way to destroy sensitive information without producing any waste.

Tough Competition, Slow Demand to Weigh on Lexmark in 2016

Intensive competition, mainly from Japanese companies, and lagging demand for printers will continue to weigh on the financial performance of Lexmark over the last quarter of this year and the first half of 2016, according to Trefis.

The market analysis provider notes that Lexmark has lost market share to Epson and Canon, which took advantage of the weaker yen, but also to HP, most likely because the growth of these players came predominantly in the inkjet segment, which constitutes over 58% of the total printer market, and Lexmark focuses on laser machines.

Another factor that will pressure earnings, says Trefis, is the price trend on the sector. Printers are getting cheaper, again thanks to competition from Japan, which will ultimately hurt sales. A third one is competition from cartridge remanufacturers that are hurting OEMs consumables sales.

AS a result of all this, Trefis says it expects Lexmark’s 2016 revenues in the Laser Printers & Cartridges business to come in at $2.85 billion because of falling prices.

Honored for Constant Efforts in Waste Management and Materials Productivity

SINGAPORE – Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific has won the Sustainable Business Award for Waste Management and Materials Productivity, which was announced on 3 November, 2015.

T h i s a c h i e v e m e n t h i g h l i g h t s t h e company’s robust standards in its full product life-cycle management across its nine Asia Pacific operating companies in Australia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand to achieve environmental sustainability in “zero landfill”, “zero pollution” and “zero illegal disposal”.

Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific was commended

for its eco-friendly efforts on top of its own Integrated Recycling System. Together with a resin manufacturer, UMG ABS, they succeeded in developing a technology for recycling plastic materials to create plastic of quality identical to newly made plastic. These efforts go beyond their own business, in supporting a circular economy.

As the first in the industry to introduce a product using reused parts in 1995, Fuji Xerox has since established the International Integrated Recycling System out of recognition that the efforts to reduce the environmental loads of its products are one of its Corporate Social Responsibility priorities as a manufacturer.

Fuji Xerox takes on the responsibility as a global company to be environmentally benign in its sales territories and the system aims to reduce environmental loads of

products throughout their life cycle based on the conception that used products are valuable resources.

Fuji Xerox aims to reduce C02 emissions by 30 percent by 2020 (as compared to 2005). By maximizing resources use, collecting used items and reusing them as parts, CO2 emissions are reduced more than when items are manufactured using only new parts. Since 2010, we have maintained a recycling rate of at least 99.5 percent for our entire operating area.

The international resource recycling system in the Asia Pacific region started operation in December 2004.

Canon Releases PowerShot G5X and PowerShot G9X in India

Recently, Canon introduced the Canon PowerShot G5X and Canon PowerShot G9X as well as the Connect Station CS100, a way for users to collect and store pictures, on the Indian market.

The PowerShot G5X will be available for Rs 49,995 (around USD$747), and the PowerShot G9X has a price tag of Rs 32,995 (around USD$493). Both cameras will sell at Canon Image Square outlets in addition to dealer outlets. The Connect Station CS100 is priced at 24,299 (around USD$363) and will be available at Canon Image Square outlets.

The large 1.0-inch sensor is what sets the G series cameras apart from others. The differences between the G5X and the G9X are in the frame quality and lens used.

The G5X has a stronger frame and features a 2.36-million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF). The camera weighs 377 grams and includes the 20.2 MP 1-inch type CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 image processor. Though the camera has a 4.2x optical zoom, which is a 24-100mm equivalent, it has a maximum aperture range of f/1.8 at the wide-angle end to f/2.8 at the telephoto end.

The G9X has the same CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 image processor, but is much smaller. It weighs 209 grams and has a 3x optical zoom lens with 28-84mm focal length equivalent. The camera’s maximum aperture range is from f/2.0 at the widest end and f/4.9 at the telephoto end.

Both cameras have a 3-inch touch screen LDC display at the back and can shoot full HD videos at 24p/25o/30p/50p/60p. For stargazers and amateur astronomers, Canon has introduced a new feature on these cameras called Star Mode. “Star Trails” mode improves the breaks in light between star trails, turning star movements into one still image. “Star Time Lapse Movie” mode creates clips that track the movement of stars against an unchanging background of dark space.

Around the lenses is a control dial. Both cameras also have a NB-13L lithium ion battery pack. On the G5X, the pack is rated at 210 shots. On the G9X, the pack is rated at 220 shots.

Resembling an external hard drive, the Canon Connect Station CS100 is a media center first launched at CES 2015. There are CF and SD card slots on the front and comes with a remote control. On the back are places for a power port, HDMI port, LAN cable, and a USB port. Canon Connect Station works wirelessly with any Canon camera or camcorder. HP Fourth-Quarter Revenue Down 9%, EPS Miss Forecasts

HP in its last quarterly report as a single company, said revenues for its fourth quarter fell for the fifth consecutive three-month period and stood at $25.7 billion, down 9% on the year. Net profit came in at $1.3 billion, with GAAP earnings per share at $0.73.

Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $0.93, while Wall Street analysts had projected EPS of $0.97 on revenues of $26.36 billion.

HP’s performance, like the one in the previous quarters, suffered the effect of lower PC sales and lower demand for its business services from the corporate world. Following the release of the results, both new companies that succeeded the imaging and computer giant, fell in after hours trading, with HP Inc. the PC company, shedding as much as 5%.

Both new companies, by the way, are cautious in their forecasts for their first quarter; HP Inc. expects earnings per share at between $0.33 to $0.38, versus more upbeat analysts expectations for $0.42. Hewlett-Packard Enterprise also aims lower than Wall Street, expecting EPS of $0.37-$0.41, while analyst projections are for $0.43.

Office Products Recycling Associates (OPRA), a Clover Imaging Group company and industry leader in the purchasing of empty inkjet and toner cartridges, cell phones, and other small electronics, is celebrating its 20 year anniversary.

OPRA began in 1995 in Kansas City, MO as a one-stop-shop for businesses looking to recycle empty printer cartridges. As a small business itself, OPRA was keenly aware of the cash flow issues many businesses face. As a result, it made quick payment turnaround -- a key element of its value proposition -- and paired faster payment times with the industry’s only customer loyalty program. Over the years, OPRA expanded its purchasing power to include cell phones, fusers, smartphones and other small electronics.

“Our customers know they can go elsewhere to sell their empties and electronics, but they also know that OPRA offers them the best terms, fastest payments, and a strong customer loyalty program. We began as a small business in a 15,000 square foot facility in Kansas City and thanks to our customer loyalty and Clover we’re the industry leader in buyback,” says Angela Walton, Vice President of OPRA.

OPRA joined Clover in 2011 as part of a strategic acquisition to boost both companies’ buyback efforts. Under Clover, OPRA doubled in size and realized other benefits such as multiple inspection facilities, in-depth core knowledge about the industry, and added environmental certifications.

OPRA offers a fully-featured website where vendors can sell empties and electronics, request pickups, check loyalty point values, track receipts, download reports, and track payments. Customers also have access to live chat, free recycling tips, and marketing collateral.

Apex: Aftermarket Foundation, Chips Way, IoT Destination

说就是“No”!

47www.rechargeasia.com

3. 并购 Static Control

55www.rechargeasia.com

60 www.rechargeasia.com

60 www.rechargeasia.com

61www.rechargeasia.com

How to Fix Copiers When They Jam or Crash Kyocera Develops Fastest 360dpi Inkjet Printhead

即可。输纸轮上如有污物可用酒精擦拭,增加摩擦力提高输纸成功率 ;

[109mm(4 英寸 ) ] 打印宽度,有利于减少需要搭载

润为 13 亿美元,经公认会计原则结算后的股票每股收益为 0.73 美元;

Construction Begins on Railway Between China and Thailand
