With the State of Ohio now mandating that all juniors take the ACT test, ‘Cats plugged into our ACT Prep events in even greater numbers. Nearly half the class sat for a full 3-hour long practice test, which we proctored, scored and returned.

College Application Blitz Year two of the extraordinary collaboration with college admissions counselors from across the state, NHS administration and teachers, community volunteers and A Call to College.

Since 1991, volunteering has been a cornerstone of A Call to College’s success. This school year alone, 275 dedicated volunteers contributed a remarkable 2,628 hours to program delivery, advising and special projects, offering expertise and ensuring program effectiveness and efficiency. Pictured here is a team of volunteers, who in addition to committing long hours to other initiatives, also led our organization through the first phase of launching a new student information system.

“Without the knowledgeable assistance and financial help from A Call to College, and their generous donors, our family would have

struggled greatly having two kids in college at the same time.”

– Molly Pancini, NHS Parent ‘14, ‘16

In the fall of 2009, the PEAK Program began its early awareness outreach with this class in second grade. Eight years later, and with nearly 50 hours of hands-on, age-appropriate activities that connect college, careers and cash under their belts, this first PEAK class entered the high school to participate in “Start Your Story”.

Through specially designed lesson plans, sixth graders learn important college terms like transcript, admissions counselor, extracurricular activities and FAFSA. Students put this knowledge to use in December during a campus visit to one of eight local partner colleges.

“To see the fourth graders’ excitement, engagement and enthusiasm for Jamie finding his way toward a future that includes college is wonderful. The students become cheerleaders for her, encouraging her to follow her dreams. And if they

can do that for a fictional character, they can now do that for themselves and each other. To be a part of a moment that may have a positive impact on them

for the rest of their lives is incredibly moving.”– Edie Norlin

Every fourth grader enjoys a live performance of “The Wonderful Wizard of College,” written for A Call to College by Edie Norlin and Dennis Kohler in 2010.

6th graders demonstrated awareness of financial aid resources than at the start

“Having the opportunity to meet with my advisor where I could gather my thoughts and organize my plan of action my junior and senior year

of high school was a huge help and a great stress-reliever!” -Madeline Ashton, NHS ’16, COTC ‘18

“I am amazed by the program’s growth since I attended Newark High School. Students now have so much more contact with the organization. With new

measures in place, like early intervention in elementary, A Call to College helps ensure that even more of our students consider post-secondary education.” -Rebekah Estep, NHS Teacher, NHS ’98, Last Dollar Grant Recipient
