NSMOVE MOUNTAINS

Letter from the leadership

Dear friends:As we reflect upon 2016, we want to thank you for your investment in this learning institution and in the students who hold the key to the future. We had a terrific year in our journey and mission to support ACC and student success. A few of our accomplishments throughout 2016 include:

• Provided over $630,000 to students, staff and programs supporting scholarships, innovation, infrastructure and technology

• Awarded $50,000 from Qualistar Capital Grant to help fund the ACC Child Development Center remodel and classroom addition

• Held a successful and meaningful ACC Foundation Board of Director’s Retreat

• Hosted the 4th Annual Affordable Arts Festival and attracted record attendance of over 5,000 people

• Raised and awarded nearly $200,000 from the Foundation for Colorado Community College’s matching scholarship challenges

• Funded approximately $15,000 in mini-grant awards to faculty and staff for innovative projects

• Created new scholarships including the Ian Bennett Memorial Scholarship, the Mason Buckingham Memorial Scholarship, the Robin Furuta Memorial Scholarship and the Zonta Club of Douglas County Scholarship.

The achievements are many, so it is clear that 2016 was another banner year… THANKS TO YOU!

Our plans for 2017 are even greater and we would be delighted to have the opportunity to have members of our community explore what ACC has to offer. Come and visit the campus or surf our web site at arapahoe.edu. We continue to work with the College to prepare students to complete their degrees, to earn a livable wage, graduate with less debt and positively contribute to the growth of Colorado’s economy. Your investment is making an invaluable impact and we hope that you consider investing once again in 2017 as we continue to grow and expand our programs.

Thank you,

Halana Causey

Dear Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative Donors,

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your generosity in funding the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative. I can not express how grateful I am for this award!

I am currently going into my sophomore year of college with a 3.0 GPA. I am a

full time student with 24.5 credit hours passed during my fresh-man year, plus eight more with the two summer classes I am tak-ing currently. My goal is to finish all of my prerequisites at ACC and apply to their nursing program, or transfer to the nursing program at the University of Northern Colorado and soon after become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

While attending school I also have a part time job as a lead ca-shier at a gas station plus a three year old daughter whose name is Michelle. I love working, being a mom , and attending school. Sometimes it can get tough and stressful but receiving this scholar-ship give me motivation and reminds me why I am in school. It gives me a reason to keep going and to try every harder so I do my best always, I want to be an example for my daughter.

Thank you again for choosing me for this scholarship!

Sincerely,Halana Causey

Gina Petrini

Dear Anschutz Family Foundation Donors,

It with incredible graciousness and ap-preciation that I write this letter. I am more than honored and humbled by your in-credible generosity in offering me the Anschutz Family Foundation Scholarship. Thank you!

I am a Nursing Student at Arapahoe Community College with dual enrollment at Metro State Univer-sity, where after completion of my LPN, I will be moving onward and upward to complete my RN/BSN. Currently, I am working

at Jefferson County Public Schools in the Student Health Office as a Clinic Aide. It is here, and through the care of my four sons, that I have found my calling to help children in a health care set-ting. Through the aid of your scholarship, I will be able to attain this goal. Words cannot express fully how this feels, but please know, it feels absolutely fantastic!

Anschutz Family, this opportunity has not only offered me incred-ible faith in the future of my family, but will also help in the aid of so many other children that I will be able to help once I complete my degree program. I have full intentions of paying my gratitude forward through my actions as a Nurse. It will never be forgot-ten. Thank you, so very very much, in your generosity to improve our lives. It means the world to us.

With sincere gratitude,Gina Petrini (and Kai, Mason, Giovanni & Jacobe)

Jason Jawann Moore

Dear Denver Southeast Rotary Foundation Donors,

I was very happy to learn that I was a recipient of the Denver Southeast Rotary Foundation. I am writing to thank you for your generous, financial support towards my higher education.

I am a Paralegal Major who plans to pursue a law career in helping Veterans

fight for their disability. I am currently a junior and plan to gradu-ate in the fall of 2016. After graduation, I will seek employment at one of the disability law firms here in Colorado with hopes of helping my fellow brothers and sisters.

By awarding me the Denver Southeast Rotary Foundation, I am able to concentrate on what is important for me, education. Your financial generosity has allowed me to be one step closer to my goal and has inspired me to help others by giving back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help other students achieve their goal just as you have helped me.

Sincerely,Jason Jawann Moore

ACC scholarship recipients

From the HeartThanks to your generosity, our students’ lives have been changed. ACC scholars are more likely to earn higher GPA’s than non-scholars; take more credits, moving them towards graduation sooner; persist semester to semester; seek tutoring or other support services; complete their degree or certificate; and/or transfer to a four-year institution. The following pages contain the heartfelt words of appreciation directly from our scholars.

Dear Arapahoe Sales Professionals/Dr. James P. Boespflug Col-lege Scholarship Donors,

I would like to thank you for your ex-treme generosity in giving back to the Arapahoe county community and offer-ing up the Dr. James P. Boespflug Schol-arship for ACC students. Getting a high-er education is a large step for every student, but with the possibility of hard

work and financial support also comes peace of mind. I am very grateful for the efforts of ACC and the Arapahoe Sales Professional Scholarship for helping fund higher education and am honored to receive such an award. I will progress through Arapahoe Community College working towards an Associate of Arts with a Business concentration. Following a full-time student schedule till next summer, I plan to transfer to Colorado State University as an Undergraduate Junior. I’ve had a passion for the financial market and education since the start of my high school career, leading me to take college credit approved courses.

I participated in Future Business Leaders of America for three years and have competed at the national level presenting ‘Digi-tal Design and Promotion’. I also have learned different levels of responsibility through personal drive, maintaining a job at my local theater for nearly a year now, and helping the Englewood High School chapter of National Honor Society with various projects for the past two years.

While I obtain my bachelors degree, I have my eyes set upon re-ceiving any required qualifications and earning an internship for my field. After graduation, I plan to study for an MBA. Following many precursors, I hope to be employed by a hedge fund.

Again, thank you very much for dedicating part of your business model to help the local students, and for selecting me to receive for the Arapahoe Sales Professionals/Dr. James P. Boespflug College Scholarship. I hope I meet you and your expectations this Fall.

Sincerely,Jerome Doherty

Courtnee Lewis

Dear Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative Donors,

I am pleased that you have chosen me to be a recipient of the award. This came as a blessing and a surprise. This award will help me to finish the Paralegal Pro-gram without having the burden of hav-ing a student loan. I have 41 credits to-wards the 60 credits needed in order to

complete the Paralegal program. I have been attending Arapa-hoe Community College since 2013 in order to pursue my As-sociates Degree.

I currently have fourteen years of healthcare experience that I would like to combine with law. My ultimate goal is to advocate for patients so that they have a thorough understanding of the healthcare system and their health insurance benefits. There is a great need for patient advocates in the healthcare industry.

Thank you again for allowing me to receive this award. It will help me to continue on my journey of completing my degree.

Sincerely,Courtnee Lewis

Desiree Clark

Dear Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative Donors,

I would like to thank you immensely for donating to this very generous scholar-ship. I am extremely honored to be the recipient of the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative, scholarship.

A couple of months ago, I received the news that I was accepted into the Arapa-

hoe Community College Nursing Program. This is a very excit-ing time for me. I have always wanted to help and heal others on their life journey. This scholarship is allowing me to reach for my dreams and to eventually be able to call myself a nurse. I will be obtaining my associate nursing degree while at Arapahoe. I will also be dual enrolled with a university here in Colorado, allowing me to obtain my bachelors, while obtaining my as-sociates.

The nursing program is a very rigorous program and being a single mother on top of being in school is not the easiest task. Nursing school not only requires time but also books and sup-plies that I will need to accomplish this goal. This scholarship allows me to accomplish this. To be the recipient of this very generous offer, I am extremely grateful!

Thank you so much.

Sincerely,Desiree Clark

Dear Kaiser Permanente Matching Fund Donors,

Please accept my gratitude on behalf of your company for your generosity in funding the Kaiser Permanente Matching Fund Scholarship. I am much honored to be the 2016-2017 recipient of the award. I am a freshman Medical Lab Technology (MLT) student at Arapahoe

Community College of Denver. It is noteworthy to inform you that the idea to study MLT was first suggested to me by one of your employees that I met at the Metropolitan State University of Den-ver job fair. For that, I owe her a lot of my gratitude.

After I obtain my AAS degree in 2017, I plan to work in hospi-tals or medical institutions like Kaiser Permanente helping doc-tors and nurses diagnose and cure diseases. I believe that work-ing in a hospital and helping make patients feel better is an opportunity to serve and I intend to use my knowledge of MLT to serve.

Again, thank you for your generous support for my education and also for your contribution to the scholarship program at Arapahoe Community College of Denver. It is my hope to meet you and ex-press my thanks in person at some point in the future.

Sincerely, Akaduchieme Kendrick Odifu-Egbune

This fall semester I will be a second se-mester nursing student here at Arapahoe

Dear State of Colorado Early Childhood Education Scholarship Donors,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in funding the State of Colorado Early Childhood Education Scholarship. I am extremely honored to be this year’s recipient of the award.

I am currently taking ECE classes, and my GPA is 4.0. I have completed 9 credit hours by taking class-es as a part-time student for the last two years. My professional goal is to become a teacher with a director certification. In order to obtain my goal, I will continue to work in preschools, and take ECE classes. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in funding the 5280 Solutions Scholarship. I am very honored to be the recipient of this award.

I am currently a freshman at the Arapahoe Community College working on complet-

ing an associate degree and planning on transferring to a four - Year College or university. My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a degree in a computer network technology. I know that all of my goals will remain dreams if I do not complete my degree. Therefore, I am committed to working hard in school and looking for opportunities that could help me make my goals a reality. Your scholarship will make a huge impact on my ability to achieve my goals in working in the information technology industry.

My grade point average is 3.5 and I am on the Dean’s List. I try to connect my passion for education with my desire to better myself. I don’t expect college to magically give me wisdom but I’m rely-ing on it to help me get the education I need to further challenge myself. I would like to give back to the community by teaching youths about this expanding and never ending computer industry. I’m very enthusiastic and devoted to seeking higher education.

Once again, my family and I want to thank you again for your help in supporting my education. Your donation means a great deal.

Very Respectfully,John Dmowski
