    Developing 21stCenturyCompetencies in School

Schools will equip students with the necessaryknowledge, skills and values for living and

working as adults in the 21stcentury.

To incorporate 21stcentury competencies inthe academic curriculum, schools will refinetheir teaching approaches and assessmentmethods. To enable students to keep track oftheir own progress, MOE will support schoolsby developing tools for holistic feedbackand assessment.

MOE will strengthen the quality of PhysicalEducation, and Art and Music education. Thesesubjects are integral to a holistic educationexperience for our students. They enableour students to develop physical robustness, enhance their creative and expressivecapacities, and shape their personal, culturaland social identity. Values and competencieswill be explicitly taught during character and

    citizenship education lessons.

Schools will also develop 21stcenturycompetencies in students through a vast rangeof co-curricular activities (CCAs).

    Knowing the Child

It is important for teachers to know studentsindividually. In this regard, the form teacherplays a key role in caring for his or her students, paying attention to their development inevery domain. The guidance period is thusinvaluable for form teachers to get to knowtheir students better.

Within schools, opportunities will be offeredfor teachers to share and discuss their

students development profile and needswith them.

    Working Hand-in-hand with Parents

Parents play a critical role as partners in ourmission to prepare our young for the future. From 2012, all students will be provided witha Holistic Development Profile which willkeep you updated on your childs progress

in his journey to develop these values andcompetencies. Do keep yourself updatedon your childs progress through informaldiscussions with his form teacher and duringParent-Teacher Meetings.

Together, we work hand-in-hand to nurtureour children for a brighter future for all.
