June 07 2007SSP Annual Meeting in San Francisco
Result of Questionnaire applied Keio University in 2006
• Subscriptions– Agree with cancellation (printed) 57%– As many journals as possible 41%
• EJ only or both Printed and EJ– Agree with EJ only 85%– Both EJ and Printed 13%
• Contribution from users– $12/M 24%– $10/M 7%– $8/M 41%– No answer 28%
Urgent Issue 1
• Fact– Price of printed and electronic journals have
been increasing dramatically in the past 10 years
• Outcome– Keio University doesn’t have enough budget
to supply it’s users with 4,800 health sciences journals for research
– As one of the prestigious universities in Japan, we would like to subscribe to all of these journals
Urgent Issue 2
• Fact– There are restrictions on the number of
organizations and the number of users according to the EJ contracts
• Outcome– We find this difficult and inconvenient since
there is a lot of collaborative research participated by researchers from other institutions and medical practitioners
