Does Mother Nature deserve the same protection as your own mother? Lawmakers in Bolivia think so. Bolivia, a landlocked country in central South America, is bordered by Brazil to the north and Argentina to the south. Bolivian President Evo is of native Andes descent.

In 2011 April 22nd, Bolivia authorities proposed the Law of Mother Earth - the world's rst legislation that grants to all nature legal rights equal to humans. "We seek a return to balance, a harmonious life not only between individuals but between person and nature, Bolivian Foreign Minister said.

Nowadays everyone knows that April 22nd is Earth Day, started 41 years ago in the US to raise environmental awareness among the general public. But few people know that it s also International Mother Earth Day proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2009 in order to express the conviction of the UN that achieving a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations.
