Istanbul Jazz Festival celebrates its 25th year with a very special project dedicated to the jazz scene in Turkey. This constellation of stars, including the milestone jazz artists in Turkey, will have us witness a feast to leave its mark in history. From 26 June, until 17 July, the Festival will host many artists from rebel bard singers to rock icons, bands that approximate the golden age of jazz to popular genres, or mesmerising voices that blends it with folk and blues. Festival adds yet another thread to the list of good things in life, and embraces its followers with jazz and more. We sincerely would like to thank dear audiences for being a part of the 25 years, which fills up a remarkable place in our lives, and for which we have created and rejoiced together, and artists that enhance our world with their creativity, and all the partners who support us.

The Istanbul Jazz Festival, which has become an indispensable part of Istanbuls history and spirit, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Balars Ahmet lakabyla tannan ve az armonikasnn Trkiyedeki virtz olarak bilinen Ahmet Faik ener, ilk armonikasna ilkokul yllarnda sahip oldu. Hukuk renimi grd niversite yllarnda ilk topluluunu kuran Balaras Ahmet, piyanoda erif Yzbaolu, fltte efik Uyguner ile beraber kurduu Balarlar adn verdii topluluuyla bir yandan ark sylerken dier yandan akordeon ve ritm aletleri ald. Yllarca yannda tad armonikasyla radyo stdyolar, konser salonlar, gazino sahneleri ve hatta televizvon ekranlarna kadar her yerde klasik mzikten halk mziine hemen her tr eseri yorumlayan Ahmet Faik ener, az armonikas iin yazlm Malcolm Arnold ve Marcellonun obua konertolar gibi pek ok besteyi seslendirdi.

Known as Ahmet the Honeybee, Ahmet Faik ener is the top virtuoso of harmonica in Turkey. He got his first harmonica when he was at elementary school. While studying law at college, he founded his first band Balarlar (Honeybees), in which he sang as well as played the accordion and rhythm instruments, with erif Yzbaolu on piano and efik Uyguner on flute. With his faithful instrument that he carried with him for many years, he interpreted and performed all kinds of songs from classical music to folk, including Malcolm Arnold and Marcellos oboe concertos written for the harmonica at various locales such as radio studios, concert halls, night-clubs and TV shows.

Uluslararas alanda da ismini duyuran ve uluslararas caz festivallerinde pek ok dnya yldz ile ayn sahneyi paylaan Nezih Yeilnil, halen kendi triosunun yansra caz ve etnik mzik yapan eitli gruplarla mzisyenlik hayatn srdryor.

Nezih Yeilnil had his start in music by playing mandolin and guitar at an early age. Upon obtaining a double bass in 1980, he ventured into jazz, to which he nurtured great interest. As well as touring across Europe three times with Jak & Janet Esim Ensemble and being a part of the band that represented Turkey at Eurovision 96, Yeilnil worked with the likes of Erol Pekcan, Nkhet Ruacan, Tuna tenel, Neet Ruacan and nder Focan. Internationally renowned, Nezih Yeilnil shared the stage with many world stars, and he currently continues to make music with his trio as well as playing with various jazz and ethnic music bands.

The legendary pianist evket Uurluer started music by playing the mandolin during his elementary school years and later on settled on the piano after trying his hands on various other instruments. Along with Erol Bykbur, Metin Ersoy, Kanat Gr and Salim Arba, he founded his first orchestra at the age of 17. After playing in various prominent orchestras of the time, he founded his eponymous orchestra in 1961. As evket Uurluer and Friends, he adapted Classical and Folk Turkish Music songs to jazz. His singles Ana Beni Eversene, Not Responsible, Tombalack Halimem and You were amongst the most popular songs of the era. Uurluer, who participated in Eurovision 91 as a composer, hosted a TV show called Anlarla Mzik for 20 years in which he gave unforgettable jazz performances.

In another brilliant night that needs to be boldly underlined, three great names of jazz that have been known for their legendary works are coming together on stage on the 25th anniversary of the festival. We are talking about Zakir Hussain, the tabla master who blends world music with jazz; Chris Potter, the doyenne who is declared as the most studied and imitated saxophonist on the planet by DownBeat; and Dave Holland, the bass guitarist and composer who is known for his genre-defying innovative music.

In this event, which will start with panels and continue with concerts, delegates who are guests of Vitrin and select names from local music industry will talk about, in two separate panels, the music industry in Turkey and how local acts can transition into the international arena. Detailed information on panels will be announced on a later date. For the first performance of the evening, Cokun Karademir, the master of baglama and qopuz, who creates his own music inspired by the heart-touching mystic musical traditions of Anatolia, will take the stage with his quartet. Tones of baglama and qopuz will merge with duduk, cello, and percussions while inducing intense emotions in listeners. The second concert will be by another quartet headed by Ercment Gl, who blends jazz, funk, and fusion with ethnic elements in his compositions and has two successful

Nar is a modern jazz trio that blends modern jazz, minimalism and improvisation with electronic sounds. The band members cite John Coltrane, Esbjrn Svensson, Robert Glasper, Aphex Twin, Tool and J Dilla as their main influences. The bands repertoire

consists of improvisation-based-lyric and multi-layered original songs and covers. Nar started to play Esbjrn Svensson songs early this year. It consists of Orhun Canca on keyboards, Orhun Uluahin on bass and Frat Balkaya on drums.

Pelin Gne started piano and voice training at an early age and performed in jazz choirs. She won an award at the Nardis Young Jazz Vocal competition in 2017. The idea of forming a band came to be after Sibel Kse, whose jazz vocal workshop Gne studies at, introduced her to Mert Can Bilgin. With the addition of Eren Turgut and Erkan Zeki Ar, the project became a quartet.

ART BLAKEY TRIBUTE BAND

Cazn efsanelerinden oluan Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengersn paralarn seslendirmek amacyla Burak Bulut tarafndan 2016da Ankarada kuruldu. Hacettepe niversitesi Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarnda konserler verdi. Trompette Erkan Snmez, tenor saksofonda Yunus Boyraz, trombonda Can enyz, piyanoda Hilmi Arslanolu, kontrabasda Canberk Datekin ve davulda Burak Bulut yer alyor.

Dedicated to playing the songs of jazz legends Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Art Blakey Tribute Band was founded by Burak Bulut in Ankara in 2016. It consists of Erkan Snmez on trumpet, Yunus Boyraz on tenor sax, Can enyz on trombone,

Hilmi Arslanolu on piano, Canberk Datekin on double bass, and Burak Bulut on drums. They have previously gave concerts at the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory.

Named after a Jackson Pollock painting, Portrait and a Dream aim to create their unique sound inspired by various musical genres. The band, in which Mehmet Ali Simavis compositions are interpreted collectively, sticks out with their eagerness to approach the immense legacy of

Turkish music, borrowing from the idea of arbitrariness in jazz improvisations. The band consists of Mehmet Ali imayli on drums, Yiit Can ztop on bass, Ltfcan Kapucu on fretless guitar and Yiit Avc on keyboards.

THE KITES

Tan Deliorman ve Ozan Erverdiden oluan The Kites, ayn apartmanda doup, kk yalardan beri birlikte mzik yapan iki arkadatan oluan kolektif bir mzik projesi. Jazz, funk, rock, fzyonu temele koyup kendi besteleri ve dzenlemelerini icra eden ikili, festivaldeki canl performanslarnda klavyede Yamur Keresteciolu, basta Baran kmen ve perksyonda Can Kalyoncu gibi konuk mzisyenleri sahnelerinde arlayacak ve kendileriyle birlikte festival dinleyicilerini de gndelik hayatn skntlarndan uzaklatrp, bir saatliine hayattan keyif almalarn salayacak.

The Kites is a collective musical project bringing together two childhood friends, Tan Deliorman and Ozan Erverdi, who grew up in the same apartment building and have been making music together from an early age on. The duo performs original songs

and arrangements based on jazz, funk, rock and fusion, and will be joined by Yamur Keresteciolu on keyboards, Baran kmen on bass and Can Kalyoncu on percussions during their live performance at the Festival.

Ticket holders for the Fabrizio Bosso Quartet // Massimo Manzi Trio feat. Elif alar concert at the Garden of Palazzo di Venezia must make a reservation for themselves by filling out the form at http://rezervasyon.iksv.org and enrol for the guest list no later than a week prior to the concert day. According to the Italian Embassys security measures, guests will be required to present their valid IDs upon arrival and only those who have their names on the guest list will be admitted. Guests who had not completed their reservation through the website will not be allowed into the venue and will not be able to redeem their tickets.Sea transportation will be available for the concert at Beykoz Kundura with an extra fee. Detailed schedule for boats will be announced on caz.iksv.org/en.An additional ticket should be purchased for entry to All Saints Moda Church, in order to attend the Night Out concerts at the venue. Only a limited number of tickets are available.Age limit applies in most of the concerts.
