Microbes are Everywhere!
Whether you measure them by population or total biomass, microbes are the most common forms of life present in almost any environment.
Humans contain more microbes in the digestive track (about 100 trillion) than animal cells in the body (about 10 trillion).
The soil is also teeming with microbes.
© 2011 SCD Probiotics 9
Microorganisms exist in almost every environment on earth and maybe beyond this planet.
Microbes can grow at temperatures from < 0°C (the snow alga, Chlamydomas nivalis) to 113°C (Pyrolobus fumarii).
Microbes are also present in saturated salt lakes, in acid mine drainage that is below pH 1.0.

Wound and Coat Care Testimonial
Per Claudia Garner, US Small Wound Care: The Garner’s horses get occasional scrapes
and can easily get into fire ant mounts. The fire ants create sores on the muzzles and legs of the animals and just spraying the beneficial microbes on to the irritated areas, seems to immediately “cool” the area and they heal very fast.
Large Wound Care: For larger wounds Ms. Garner makes a paste out of Bentonite clay, Manuka Honey and SCD Probiotics, she can treat almost any wound with this process and she has found it to be a very powerful wound remedy.
She dilutes it further in a spray bottle and sprays the coats of the animals as a fly deterrent.

Ökonet Equitan - Research
Dr Pagan's results -- fiber digestibility is increased by 7.5%-- absorption of phosphorus is 22% greater. The horse utilizes the phosphorus that is already in the diet more efficiently. This is a far cheaper alternative to additional phosphorus supplementation. -- increase calcium digestion. -- improve the fermentation process in the hind gut indicates that they can be beneficial in stabilizing digestive disturbances. These result from carbohydrate overload when the horse is fed concentrate ration. Such overloads can bring out colic and laminitis.

Ökonet Equitan
Antibiotic Therapy: antibiotics can destroy pathogenic micro-organisms as well as the beneficial bacteria that are normally found in animal’s digestive tract; Ökonet Equitan - reduce the incidence of persistent and sporadic colic; Maintain overall good health and condition.
Transportation: some horses can become extremely agitated when traveling by car or plane, which can cause loss of appetite or diarrhea; Ökonet Equitan - keeps the immune system boosted. Another added bonus is an increase in milk production from lactating mares and increase early growth in foals.

Control of Pathogenic MicroorganismsPoultry Example
Poultry products have been blamed for the transmission of Salmonella spp and other human diseases (Stern, 1994).
Salmonella enteritidis is the most reported strain causing human infection and there has been clear epidemiological association of these cases with the consumption of eggs and poultry meat (Sainsbury, 1992).
the colonization of Probiotics in the chickens intestinal tract apparently controls the population of pathogenic microorganisms such as Salmonella spp., Enterococci and E. Coli.
Lactic acid bacteria produce significant amounts of bacterial growth inhibitory substances such as reuterin.
Reuterin has a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity that has proven to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and protozoa.

Case Study Summary – Cartagena, South AmericaWastewater - Controlling Odor and Reducing Bacterial Load
Industry: City Government Application: SCD Probiotics Technology used to control odor and improve water
quality in city sewage system Where: Cartagena, Colombia, South America When: May - July, 2008 Customer Problem
The Cartagena tourist area faced foul odors coming from the public manholes of the urban sewage wastewater, causing a health concern especially in the rainy season when the manholes overflowed. The project concentrated on three geographic areas served by one pumping station with a pumping volume of about 5400 m³/day (6500 m³/day during the busy tourist season). The overall length of the sewage system was 21 km, and the total retention time was 2.5 hours (approximate time the probiotic products had to impact the water quality).
Goal To control odors in the sewage system and pumping stations in three targeted areas; To reduce the levels of TSS, COD, and BOD; To reduce Total Coliforms and Fecal Coliforms, improving outflow water quality
© 2011 SCD Probiotics 85
Results
Total Suspended Solids (TSS) was reduced by 68% Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) was reduced by 66% Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) was reduced by 25% Oils & Grease were reduced by 8% The presence of foul odors in the interior and exterior of the
manholes showed remarkable reduction The bacterial load also showed significant reductions: Total
Coliforms by 91% and Fecal Coliforms by approximately 76%
