Dear colleagues and guests,

this program serves to invite you to the FifthConference of the Adult Section of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP).

The topic “Crossing Borders – IntegratingDifferences”

offers manifold connections with our everyday work as psychoanalytic psychotherapists.Patients with severe disorders challenge us.Other clinical phenomena pose the questionwhether we are dealing with illness in a narrow sense or rather with variants of humanexistence. Another aspect is the considerationof modifications and extensions of standardanalytical methodology. And lastly: How dopsychoanalysts in different countries respondto challenges in their practices?

The conference topic, however, also offers theopportunity to confront questions and topicsbeyond the treatment couch, such as transi-tional situations following political and socialupheavals, migration and its consequences,torture and violence. We will also take upproblems in ongoing psychoanalyticalresearch.

Special attention is drawn to the workshop on “Peer Review for a Paper on PsychoanalyticPsychotherapy and the International Journalfor Psychoanalysis”. A text submitted for publication in the IJP will be discussed in apeer review by Roberto Basile and partici-pants. Please note that participation requirespre-registration (registration form!) You will receive the text ahead of time.

The conference takes place in the center ofEurope in Dresden, the capital of Saxony, witha history that goes back about 800 years. Kurfürst August the Strong made Dresden intoone of the most beautiful cities of Europe.After his time the city was a hub of cultureand science. At the end of World War ll it wassubjected to intense bombing, but it has to alarge extent been rebuilt. The reconstructionof the Frauenkirche has become a symbol ofthe will to repair the damages of war and ofinternational collaboration. The localambiance and the poignant history of Dresdengive our theme a particular relevance in viewof EFPPs declared mission of developing meansfor improving psychic health of people inEurope.

EFPP will designate a space for reflection on common/ divisive issues, one of the aims of the conference.

Le thème “Franchir les frontières – Intégrerles différences“

offre une multitude de liens en rapport avecnotre travail quotidien en tant que psychothé-rapeutes psychanalytiques. Les patientsatteints de graves troubles nous lancent undéfi. D’autres phénomènes cliniques nousconfrontent à la question de savoir s’il s’agitréellement de maladies au sens strict du termeou plutôt de variantes de l’existence humaine.Un autre aspect est l’observation des modifi-cations et des extensions du processus stan-dard analytique. Et pour finir : comment lespsychanalystes de différents pays se compor-tent-ils face aux défis posés par la pratique ?

Le thème de la conférence offre égalementl‘opportunité de réfléchir sur des questions et problèmes qui se trouvent au-delà du divandu psychanaliste, comme par ex. les situationsde transition après des bouleversements politiques et sociétaux, l‘immigration et sesconséquences, la torture et la violence. Nousnous intéresserons également aux problèmesrencontrés dans la pratique de la recherchepsychanalytique.

Nous attirons tout particulièrement votreattention sur l’atelier intitulé “Contrôle par les pairs d’un papier sur la Psychothérapie psychanalytique et le IJP (The InternationalJournal for Psychoanalysis)”. Roberto Basilediscutera avec les participants, dans le cadred’un contrôle des pairs, d’un texte remis pourparaître dans le journal IJP. Veuillez noterqu‘une pré-inscription est nécessaire (formu-laire d’inscription !). Vous recevrez le texte dediscussion en temps voulu.

La conférence se tiendra au centre de l’Europe,à Dresde, capitale de la Saxe, riche de 800 ansd’histoire qui se caractérise par un fort héritage culturel, sa tradition universitaire et ses administrations.Le prince électeur, Auguste le Fort, œuvra toutau long de son règne à faire de Dresde l’unedes plus belles villes d’Europe et un centre dela culture et du savoir. Pendant la SecondeGuerre mondiale, elle connut d’intenses bombardements, mais elle est aujourd’hui engrande partie reconstruite. La reconstructionde l’église Notre-Dame “Frauenkirche” estdevenue le symbole de la volonté de réparerles dommages causés par la guerre et de lacollaboration internationale. L’atmosphère deDresde et son histoire poignante donnent ànotre thème une importance particulière auregard de la mission déclarée de l‘EFPP dedévelopper les moyens visant l’amélioration de la santé psychique des Européens.

L‘EFPP offre un espace de réflexion sur ce qui nous unit et nous sépare, ce à quoi laconférence se veut d‘apporter son soutien.

Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,sehr verehrte Gäste,

mit diesem Programm möchten wir Sie herzlich einladen zur Fünften Konferenz derErwachsenen-Sektion der Europäischen Föderation für Psychoanalytische Psycho-therapie im Gesundheitswesen (EFPP).

Das Thema „Grenzen überwinden – Unterschiede integrieren“

bietet vielfältige Verknüpfungspunkte mitunserer täglichen Arbeit als psychoanalytischePsychotherapeuten. Patienten mit schwerenStörungen fordern uns heraus. Andere klini-sche Phänomene stellen uns vor die Frage, ob es sich überhaupt um Krankheiten im enge-ren Sinne oder vielmehr um Varianten dermenschlichen Existenz handelt. Ein weitererAspekt ist die Betrachtung von Modifikationenund Erweiterungen des analytischen Standard-verfahrens. Und schliesslich: Wie gehenPsychoanalytiker in den verschiedenen Ländern mit den Herausforderungen der Praxisum? Gemeinsamkeiten und Trennendes sollreflektiert werden.

Das Tagungsthema bietet aber auch Gelegen-heit, über Fragen und Probleme nachzudenken,die jenseits der Behandlungscouch angesiedeltsind, so z.B. Übergangssituationen nach politi-schen und gesellschaftlichen Umbrüchen,Migration und ihre Folgen, Folter und Gewalt.Auch Probleme der psychoanalytischen For-schungspraxis werden uns beschäftigen.

Besonders hinweisen möchten wir auf denWorkshop zum „Peer Review for a Paper onPsychoanalytic Psychotherapy and the Inter-national Journal for Psychoanalysis“. Hier wirdRoberto Basile einen Text, der zur Veröffentli-chung im IJP eingereicht wurde, mit den Teil-nehmern in einem peer review diskutieren.

Die Tagung wird in Dresden in der Mitte Euro-pas stattfinden. Die Geschichte der HauptstadtSachsens umfasst 800 Jahre. Kurfürst Augustder Starke machte Dresden zu einer der schön-sten Barockstädte Europas, zu einem Zentrumfür Kultur und Fortschritt. Die Stadt wurde inden letzten Tagen des Zweiten Weltkriegesdurch Bomben fast vollständig zerstört, ist inzwischen aber weitgehend wieder her-gestellt. Der Wiederaufbau der Frauenkircheist zu einem Symbol des Willens geworden, die Kriegsschäden in einer internationalenZusammenarbeit zu beheben. Die Atmosphäreder Stadt und ihre berührende Geschichte ver-leihen unserem Tagungsthema eine besondereBedeutung, auch auf dem Hintergrund desZieles unserer Föderation, Wege zur Förderungder psychischen Gesundheit der Menschen inEuropa zu finden und zu verfolgen.
