“To love the Lord our God is the heartbeat of our mission

The spring from which our service overlows

Across the street or around the worldThe mission’s still the same

Proclaim and live the truth in Jesus’ name”.

Ining koro sang isa ka ambahanon nga ginatig-ulohan The Mission ni Jamie Rivera ang akon nadumduman samtang nagapamalandong ako sang World Mission Sunday nga aton ginasaulog sa karon nga Domingo.

Katahom sang mensahe sang kanta - “To love the Lord our God is the heartbeat of our mission”.

Ang gobierno indi puede makapugong ukon makapauntat sa Simbahan sa iya apostolado (puede lang mag-regulate in view of the common good), halimbawa nahanungod sa sacredness of life, unity of family and social solidarity, kay kon himuon ini sang gobierno, pareho lang nga wala niya ginarespeto ang “competence” sang Simbahan kag gani isa ini ka violation of the proper purpose of the Church and fundamental rights of the faithful to live according to their conviction and faith.

As I go through the vast and populated area of Brgy. Bakhaw and Brgy. Benedicto, and walked through the nar-row and long paths of Brgy. Tabuc Suba Proper and Ilaya and passing through the big and beautiful bungalow hous-es in Villa Matilde, Brgy. San Vicente going to the poorest of the poor living in river banks of the same barangay, I asked myself, “how can mission be possible here? How can I evan-gelize the people and make them evangelizers as well?

Most of the time, I ind myself helpless for I can only do as much. There are many things that I want to do but I cannot because I am also lim-ited. How I wish I can spend longer hours with them in the barangay, sharing our life’s sit-uations and joining the MKK Bible Sharing! How I desire to

be with our young people and have bonding with them!

I remember a story which was told to me by a former classmate in the seminary. Ac-cording to him, he learned of this story from Bo. Sanchez.

Once upon a time, there were three trees that have great dreams in life. The irst tree dreamed of being a big boat. The second tree dreamed of be-ing a jewelry box and the last tree wished to be something which will be looked up by the people. Years passed and the irst tree was utilized to make a small boat. He felt frustrated

but later, Jesus used that small boat when preaching to the people at the seashore of the lake of Galilee. The second tree was not utilized for a jewelry

box but it be-came a manger w h e r e J e s u s l a i d w h e n he was b o r n . J e s u s is the m o s t p r e -c i o u s

jewel we can have. The last tree, on the other hand, felt bad thinking his dreams will not be fulilled. However, af-ter many years, it was cut, it was down and used as a cross

where Jesus was cruciied. True enough; many people looked upon that cross where Jesus was cruciied and died.

The morale of the story is this: yes, we may have dreams in life and have set a time frame for them. However, God sometimes has a better plan for us and it happens in His own beautiful time. All we need to do is to open up our-selves to His will and be ready to follow it.

I realized that I do not set the mission for myself. God is the one who gives me the mis-sion. He does not expect me to do great things. He expects me to do His will with so much love in my heart. This is what God desires for me. This is His will for you too. Let us alto-gether embrace the mission God has entrusted us to do.

Nagakalangkag nga makalibot kag nagaka-lipay nga mag-ululupod na-man kami nga mga pama-tan-on.

Quote of the Week

Sugod sadto, nangin aktibo sia nga alagad sang Simbahan.

May duha ka sahi sang pagpangamuyo: Nahauna.

Posible nga kita makapadayon kon kita nagabululigay, naga encourage nagapabatyag sang aton pagsuporta.

May rason kon ngaa indi kita dapat

(Excerpts from Mga Paghiambit sa Panimbahon)

Dimensions of Faith

Last October 11, 2013, the WV-RACCTIS c e l -ebrated its 25 years of

service to the Church. The delegates from 7 dioceses and 1 Archdiocese (Jaro) were warmly welcomed by His Excellency Archbishop An-gel N. Lagdameo, the Arch-bishop of Jaro. The occasion started with the Eucharis-tic Celebration with Arch-bishop Jose S. Palma D.D., Archbishop of Cebu and

CBCP president as Presider and Homilist.

In his homily, the soft spoken Archbishop remind-ed the catechists on the three dimensions of faith. First, he said that their catechesis should be a medium of per-sonal encounter with Jesus. Thus, the affective formation in teaching must be given importance. Second, they should not only lead their students but journey with

them closer to God. “That at the end of the journey…magakitaanay ayhan kamo sa langit?” Third, that the primary agent in catechesis is the Holy Spirit and the catechists are workers in the vineyard of God. So, you have to gratefully tell Him, “Lord, we are happy, we are your workers for the good of the Church.” he told the Cathecist smiling. Julieta Aquilo and Lalaine Pasquin

ARCHDIOCESAN News

VATICAN News

Last October 17, 2013, the Chancery Ofice of the Archdiocese of Jaro wrote

a letter calling the attention of all the Clergy of the Archdiocese, Parish Secretaries, Religious Communities and the Faithful.

According to the letter, there was an information from the clergy of the northern parishes of the Archdiocese of Jaro that there is someone who is calling himself “Msgr. Palma” (We don’t have Msgr. Palma in the archdiocese). His modus is to call parish secretaries and pressure them to tell the name of the

parish and the parish priest. He would also ask the telephone number of the police station. It is supposed that he is gathering information about the parish and the priest so that he could go around the place pretending to know many priests so that he could easily be trusted by the faithful and he could easily go to his next plan which is TO ASK FOR MONEY.

So with these reports at hand, we are calling all concerned to be vigilant and take precautionary measures in

dealing with this situation.1. If somebody would

present himself to you as member of the clergy of a particular arch/diocese in the Philippines or a member of a religious congregation you could ask for an ID, or in a prudent manner you could call the chancery ofice (329 4442) to check the status of the person.

2. You could also ask him if he had already done a courtesy visit to the archbishop to inform that he is in the archdiocese.

3. If he is to celebrate

Chancellor Issues Letter of Caution

October 14, 2013, Pope Francis expressed his concern for people who

are leaving the Church. Speak-ing before the Pontiical Coun-cil for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, the Pope highlighted the importance of being professional, and lead-ing by example when it comes to catechesis.

“In our time, we often wit-ness an indifference towards faith, no longer considered to be important in the life of man and woman. The new evan-gelization means reawaken-ing the faith in the hearts and

minds of our peers.” Pope Francis went on to

say that the Church must ight against “illiteracy” of the faith. He emphasized the role the family plays in the new evangelization. Speciically, he singled out the parents as a child’s irst teachers.

“It’s important for us Christians to show how to live our faith concretely through

Pope Francis: “Parents should be

the first to teach catechesis to their children”

love, harmony, joy and suffer-ing. Because that prompts us to ask questions, like at the begin-ning of the Church’s path: Why do they live that way? What pushes them forward? Those are questions that takes us to the heart of the evangelization, which is the witness of faith and charity.”

The Pope also explained

that the new evangelization cannot be improvised and that it is important that it be well coordinated. He suggested to keep following the path set by the Second Vatican Council by focusing on the essential Christian message: the per-sonal encounter of each person with God.

MANILA, Oct. 15, 2013—A Catholic bishop is calling for prayers for those af-

fected by a powerful earthquake in Visayas that killed people and destroyed properties.

Bishop Leonardo Medroso of Tagbilaran asked prayers for those who have died and their loved ones who survived, for those left homeless and in shock, for the “healing” of the affected areas.

At least 20 people were killed—15 in Cebu, four in Bohol and one in Siquijor— when a 7.2 quake struck provinces of Central Visayas on Tuesday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) said the temblor was recorded at 8:12 a.m. Its epicenter was traced in Carmen, Bohol.

The quake also destroyed several heritage churches in Bohol diocese including the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Baclayon town, one of the country’s old-est churches.

Medroso said the Bohol ca-thedral did not suffer major dam-age but several antique statues of saints were destroyed.

In Cebu City, the quake also destroyed Sto. Niño Basilica’s belfry.

Masses and other activi-ties inside the basilica and the Cebu cathedral have already been cancelled as a precaution-ary measure.

Msgr. Achilles Dakay, spokesman of the Archdiocese of Cebu, said Masses will be held temporarily outside of both churches as authorities assess the structures’ physical state.

Meanwhile, the National Sec-retariat for Social Action (NASSA) and Caritas Manila vowed to send emergency assistance for those af-fected by the quake.

The Church agencies assured their readiness to help the affect-ed communities particularly in Bohol and Cebu provinces.
