Nouns (ค านาม) คอื ค าทีใ่ชเ้รยีกชือ่ คน สตัว ์ ส ิง่ของตา่งๆ ทีอ่ยูร่อบตัวเรา ค านาม แบง่ออกเป็น 2 ชนดิ 1. ค านามทีนั่บจ านวนได ้ (Countable Noun)

2. ค านามทีนั่บจ านวนไมไ่ด ้ (Uncountable Noun) 1. ค านามทีน่บัได ้ คอื ค านามทีส่ามารถนับจ านวน 1, 2 ได ้ การบอกปรมิาณในค านามทีนั่บได ้ มักใช ้ a an แทนจ านวน 1 หรอืใชต้ัวเลขแทนเลยกไ็ด ้

a น าหนา้ค านามเอกพจน์จ านวน 1 ทีข่ ึน้ตน้ดว้ยพยัญชนะ an น าหนา้ค านามเอกพจน์จ านวน 1 ทีข่ ึน้ตน้ดว้ยสระ ( a, e, i, o, u ) ค านามทีนั่บจ านวนได ้ ม ี2 ชนดิ

ค านามทีม่อียูส่ ิง่เดยีว เรยีกวา่ เป็นเอกพจน์ (Singular) ค านามทีม่มีากกวา่หนึง่ คอื ตัง้แตส่องขึน้ไป เรยีกวา่ เป็นพหพูจน ์ (Plural) ค านามทีม่จี านวนมากกวา่ 1 ใหเ้ตมิ s หรอื es ทีท่า้ยค านามนั้น และเปลีย่น

ค าน าหนา้นาม คอื a, an ใหเ้ป็น some หรอืใชต้ัวเลขบง่บอกจ านวน

นอกจากจะเตมิ s หรอื es เพือ่ใหน้ามนัน้มรีูปเป็นพหูพจน์แลว้ จะเห็นไดว้่ารูป

นามพหพูจน์มรีปูเปลีย่นมาจากนามเอกพจน์หลายวธิดีังนี้ 1. นามเอกพจน์ท าใหเ้ป็นพหพูจน์ไดโ้ดยการเตมิ s เชน่ mother – mothers student – students

2. นามเอกพจน์ทีล่งทา้ยดว้ย o, ss, s, sh, ch, x ท าเป็นพหพูจน์โดยการเตมิ es เชน่ mango – mangoes dish – dishes glass – glasses

watch – watches bus – buses box – boxes 3. นามเอกพจน์ทีล่งทา้ยดว้ย y ท าเป็นพหพูจนไ์ดโ้ดย เปลีย่น y เป็น iแลว้เตมิes เชน่

lady – ladies baby – babies story – stories country – countries ยกเวน้ ถา้หนา้ y เป็นสระ a, e, i, o, u ไมต่อ้งเปลีย่น y เตมิ s ไดเ้ลย

4. นามเอกพจน์ทีล่งทา้ยดว้ย f หรอื fe ทีเ่ป็นรปูพหพูจน์โดยเปลีย่น f หรอื fe เป็น vแลว้เตมิ es เชน่ life – lives leaf – leaves knife – knives wolf – wolves

5. นามเอกพจน ์ เมือ่ท าเป็นพหพูจนไ์ด ้ โดยเปลีย่นสระภายใน เชน่ man – men woman – women foot – feet

tooth – teeth goose – geese child – children ขอ้ควรสงัเกต ค านามทีม่รีปูเหมอืนกนัทัง้เอกพจน์และพหพูจน์ คอื fish, sheep, deer

ค านามทีม่รีปูเป็นพหพูจนเ์สมอ คอื noodles, people 2. ค านามทีน่บัไมไ่ด ้ คอื ค านามทีไ่มส่ามารถนับจ านวน 1, 2 ได ้ ไมม่ ี a, an น าหนา้ แตจ่ะม ี some น าหนา้ สว่นมากมกัเป็นค าทีเ่กีย่วกับอาหาร หรอืประเภทที่

ภาชนะที่บรรจุ หรือตักตวงค านามนั้นๆ ในบางครัง้อาจจะบอกเป็นชิน้ หรือจ านวนน ้าหนักแลว้ตามดว้ย of และท าเป็นพหพูจน์ไดโ้ดยบอกจ านวนภาชนะทีบ่รรจุนัน้ๆ เชน่
