part. Orlan left the eliminationgame with East Carolina after 1.2innings complaining of tightnessin his elbow.
I think theres an issue withR.C., in terms of whether or notthe Nationals want to check outhis arm and his injury more fromphysical standpoint, Fox said.
So, I dont know exactly how longthat process will take.
The deadline for players to signis July 13, and Fox said he expectsthe decisions of Orlan and Morinto come well before then.
North Davidsons LandonLassiter was the second UNCrecruit selected. Lassiter was picked
by Arizona immediately after Coyle
was selected by Tampa Bay.Lassiters high school coach
Mike Meadows described the shortstop as a quiet young man witha loud bat, one that had a trio ofmulti-homerun games this season.
He worked hard on his armstrength and his range is unbe-lievable, said Meadows, who alsocoached former UNC standoutshort stop Levi Michael.
(Lassiter) makes the play on the
run as good as anybody weve had.The Nationals used their pick
in the 26th round on Skye Bolt, aUNC-committed outfielder, thathas been wowing people with his
bat as well as his range in the out-field. Dylan Deal, Bolts coach atHoly Innocents Episcopal Schoolin Georgia, raved about Boltsintimidating presence from out
in other departments as well.Pride said lax academic stan-
dards are probably common at alot of Division I schools whereathletic performance is placedabove academics.
This is a bigger problem thanAFAM and a bigger problem thanUNC, he said.
Chancellor Holden Thorprefused several interview requests.
The University began inves-tigating the department inSeptember following the revela-tion that former defensive endMichael McAdoo had plagiarizeda paper for a class in the depart-ment, and the plagiarism hadgone undetected.
Kathy Kirschmann, an Africanand Afro-American studies major,
said shes concerned for her fellowclassmates who will graduate fromthe department with hopes of con-tinuing their education.
Weve (the department) feltlike the poor stepchild of UNC fora while, Kirschmann said.
Both Pride and Kirschmann saidthey were unaware of any issues
within the department before theUniversity released its report.
Sahle could not be reached for
comment but Dee Reid, directorof communications for the Collegeof Arts and Sciences, said she has
been out of town.Reid said Kenneth Janken is
serving as acting departmentchair while Sahle is away. Jankenand several other departmentprofessors declined to comment.

Hippler said he was sad to hearof the closing, after selling the
business to its latest owners. We ran it successfully for 21
years, and then they went out intwo years, he said. In that typeof business, you have to keep up
with the market.Hippler also owns the Gumbys
in Raleigh, but said he didnt thinkthe Raleigh store would be affected
by the Chapel Hill stores closing. We couldnt really deliver any
further than we probably alreadyare, he said.
I wouldnt expect people todrive from Chapel Hill to Raleighto grab a Gumbys pizza, Hipplersaid. It would be nice, but I
wouldnt expect it.Jones said the empty space has
received a large amount of inter-est from businesses looking tomove in.

there in the grass. His assists were some of the
most exciting baseball Ive everbeen around, Deal said. If some-body ever tried to run on him or
take an extra base it was a badidea.
Deal said Bolt coming to UNCwill be the best case scenario foreveryone involved.
I personally think this is goingto be good for Skye and for every-
body. UNCs got a great playerand Skyes going to develop more, hell get a little bigger And fac-
ing ACC pitching doesnt hurtanybody, Deal said.
