As we move towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and the completion of the Kyoto Stadium (tentative name), Kameoka City is moving forward with preparations for the “Kameoka Fog Art Festival” event, a project which aims to create a new tourism resource and also disseminate Kameoka’s appeal through cultural arts. O n O c to b e r 2 9 , t h e 2 n d m e et i n g o f the “Kameoka Fog Art Festival” Executive Committee was held at a kominka (traditional Japanese house) in the Chitose district. The kominka used as the location for the meeting was mainly refurbished by students of the Kyoto Art and Design University. Coined the “KIRI CAFÉ”, it will be utilized as the hub for the “Kameoka Fog Art Festival”. The meeting was attended by executive committee members, local residents of the Chitose district, students
involved in the refurbishing work with dialogues and workshops held based on the theme “goals and structure of the Kameoka Fog Art Festival". Attendees exchanged opinions on the utilization of kominka properties as well as cultural and artistic activities in Kameoka. Also on November 11, at the very same venue, a festival
related event “Admiring Kameoka’s Fog. From the Skies! From the Ground!" was held in collaboration with the local cultural museum cultural property lecture session. Mr. Yanagida Akihiko (Representative of Hinata Studio, Kyoto City) talked about his experience filming Kameoka’s fog enshrouded landscape from the skies while paragliding. Please look forward to the Fog Art Festival activities as we expand our reach from and beyond the “KIRI CAFE”.

Stadium Design and Layout Last December, in a regular meet ing sess ion of the Kyoto P r e f e c t u r a l A s s e m b l y , t h e construct ion contract for the s t a d i u m w a s f i n a l i z e d a n d voted on thereby kick starting the construct ion process. The construction site encompasses a total area of about 16,000 square meters and the four story facility will be able to accommodate around
21,600 people. The stadium is carefully designed to incorporate the image of the traditional Japanese townhouse and to achieve a harmony with the surrounding mountain ranges so that the overall structure would blend into the landscape of Kameoka. With regards to spectator seating, a design that’s a first in the country where an overhanging roof structure covers all the seats, has been adopted. In addition, it also boasts a shortened distance to the field which will allow for an even more vivid spectator experience. Furthermore, the sports climbing facility installed in the space underneath the stands will make this location the first in Japan to have a design that includes a comprehensive indoor space for three types of competitive sports, much like the one to be used for the Tokyo Olympics. It is hoped that this stadium, with a “Commercial Zone” etc. that will be built inside the facility, will become a center for regional revitalization.
Aiming for the Creation of a Bustling Hub Finally, the first day of construction for the stadium has arrived. As a place that coexists with the natural surroundings, it is expected to become a place where locals and visitors alike will gather. In order to ensure that the stadium itself will be conducive to the revitalization of Kameoka City as a bustling hub, we will continue to cooperate with Kyoto Prefecture to consider ways to effectively utilize this facility. Looking forward, the main construction work is expected to reach completion by end December of 2019 with the expected opening date to be during spring of 2020. Let’s ponder ahead of a future with a completed stadium in place, while looking over the progress and changes happening day by day at the construction site.

The Kyoto Stadium (tentative name) development project in Kameoka was put into motion by Kyoto Prefecture. At last, construction work began and the commencement ceremony itself was held on January 20th. With an expected opening slated for spring of 2020, a countdown has begun for the completion of this stage where dreams of youth take flight and the birth of a new Kameoka landmark take form.

Towards the New Season On February 11th, the “Kyoto Sanga F.C. 2018 Season Pep Rally” was held at Galleria Kameoka. This rally, sponsored by Kameoka City, Kyoto Stadium (tentative name) Support Association and the Kameoka City Shopping District Association (Kameoka Sanga Support Shopping District), is held for the second time in continuation from last year.
Victory through the “Tenacity to Win”! Prior to the pep rally, the coach and all the soccer athletes visited and prayed at the “Makekirai Inari Shrine (Kita-kose District)”*. At Ojiyama Inari Shrine, also known as “Makekirai Shrine” and said to have the power to bring about victories, they offered up sincere prayers for their victory as the residents of the H Shopping District looked on. Mayor Katsuragawa, in support of the players, cheered
“May you be blessed with victory! Do your best while keeping the goal of a J1 League promotion in sight!” After worshipping at the shrine, they boarded the bus towards the pep rally location and without getting off the bus, visited the construction site of the Kyoto Stadium (tentative name). They were surprised at the proximity of the stadium to the train station and their eyes brimmed with expectations.
Determined for a J1 League Promotion At the pep ral ly, Coach Nunobe strongly expressed his aspirations, “Under the slogan of “unity”, we will approach the new season with a show of unity!” In addition, a talk show interview with all the athletes was held. With topics like the
impressions they have on their teammates, the atmosphere was relaxed and lighthearted allowing for much merriment. In welcome of the new season, let’s all cheer for Kyoto Sanga F.C. and their efforts towards a promotion to the J1 League!
