The 74 Karat Digital WaterlessOffset Press combines innovativedesign features with the best ofconventional press technology in anew and exciting package. But it’snot just hype, the press is a realityand it’s available at CrossTech.

The 74 Karat Digital WaterlessOffset Press provides crisp detailand vibrant color that only comes

with waterless printing. Uniquepaper-handling further enhancesthe accuracy and repeatability ofthe press.

The 74 Karat’s innovative designincludes the implementation of color management to its fullest. The press is designed to runconsistently on every job. Profilesare created and stored to adjustincoming files to known standards,providing the desired results on the press sheet every time, forevery job.

Utilizing aluminum printing plates,imaged directly on press, thequality is high-end offset in perfectregister. Limited press make-ready

allows each new job to be on press and printing in a matter ofminutes. Registration is automaticand the press is “up to color” inabout 20 sheets, insuring time- and cost-efficiencies.

File Prep

Maximum Image Area & Press SheetThe 74 Karat Digital WaterlessOffset Press has a maximum sheetsize of 20.5� x 29�. The maximumlive image area is 19.75� x 28.25�.When building pages, build pages to the final trim size with bleedextending off the page edge.CrossTech will “impose” the job asnecessary to achieve optimumsheet coverage and layout forfinishing.

Available StocksAs with most offset presses, the 74 Karat Digital Waterless OffsetPress can accommodate a widevariety of stocks and substrates.Generally stocks up to 18 pt maybe run. Please contact our customerservice department or yourCrossTech sales rep for moreinformation on stock availability.

Image FormatsImages may be saved in almost anyformat but EPS and TIFF work thebest. Where possible, save imagesas EPS files with JPEG MaximumQuality encoding. Color imagesmust be saved as CMYK (not RGB).Photoshop Duotones, Tritones orQuadtones must be converted toCMYK. Do not save files using DCS.If you have EPS images using DCS,resave the images as compositeEPS files with JPEG MaximumQuality encoding.

ResolutionThe 74 Karat Digital WaterlessOffset Press images at a resolutionof 2,540 dpi. Minimum imageresolution is 300 dpi for continuoustone and 1,200 dpi for line art (atfinished size). The 74 Karat DigitalWaterless Offset Press typically runsscreens at 175 lpi. Based on thiscapability, higher resolution images(350-400 dpi) will reproduce witheven better results. Other linescreens are available on a case bycase basis.

ApplicationsCrossTech can handle nearly anyMac-based graphic application,including: QuarkXPress, AdobeIllustrator, Adobe Photoshop,Macromedia FreeHand, AdobePageMaker, Microsoft PowerPoint.PC-based applications should besaved as PostScript files with fontsembedded.

PDFPDF files can also be accepted. It is important to remember thefollowing when creating PDFs:• Use the Acrobat Distiller to create

PDFs from PostScript files.• Embed all font information

within the PDF.• Ensure that all images are at or

above the minimum resolution(300 dpi, don’t downsample).

• Images are in CMYK (not RGB).

Colors & Aqueous CoatingCrossTech’s 74 Karat DigitalWaterless Offset Press prints using4-color process and provides inlineaqueous coating. Currently thepress does not run “spot” colors.

MediaAcceptable media include: 100 mbZip Disks, CDs, 1 gb Jaz Disks. Filesmay also be sent via email or FTP.Please contact our customer servicedepartment for additionalinformation.

Fonts, Graphics &Laser ProofsRemember toinclude all fonts and linked graphics.Programs such asFlightCheck canmake this processextremely easy andreliable. Pleaseinclude laser proofs(indicate if proofsare reduced) and adirectory printoutfrom the disk.

Rich BlackPages using large areas of solidblack should utilize a “rich black”for optimal results. To create a richblack, use the following processvalues: 60%C, 40%M, 20%Y, 100%K.

BleedStandard bleed of 1⁄8� is required forall bleed edges.

Standard Production Flow &TurnaroundAll jobs being printed on the 74Karat Digital Waterless Offset Pressrequire a client approved “proof”prior to the actual printing of theproject. Upon arrival of your projectat our location, CrossTech willgenerate a DDCP (Fuji FinalProof orHP 5000) of your project for yourapproval. Typically, this proof will bedelivered the next businessmorning.

Upon receipt at our location of yourapproved proof, we will scheduleyour project into our pressroom. In

most cases, weshould be on presswithin 24 hours ofreceiving theapproved proof.Upon completion ofthe print run, yourproject will be sentto finishing.

Stock availability,run length, andfinishing may all affect theturnaround time.

Pantone Color Charts

The following pages containswatches simulating the Pantoneprocess color chips. These swatcheshave been produced with screentints of the CMYK process colorsand printed on CrossTech’s 74 KaratDigital Waterless Offset Press. Byselecting a color from these charts,you can be assured that the coloryou select will closely match thecolor shown on the following pages.Please keep in mind that the stockselection will have an impact oncolor accuracy.

One of our greatest concerns isachieving the results you expect.Many times a file will be preparedwith Pantone colors which wereselected from the Pantone SpotColor guide. These colors wereachieved through the mixing ofspecial inks to create the exact spotcolor desired. The 74 Karat DigitalWaterless Offset Press uses acombination of Cyan, Magenta,Yellow and Black inks (processcolor) to achieve a wide variety ofcolors. Through the use of varyingsize dots of the four process colors,the appearance of different colors is achieved.

The CMYK color gamut is muchsmaller than that which may beachieved through ink mixing,therefore not all colors can beexactly simulated on the 74 KaratDigital Waterless Offset Press (or inany process color printingenvironment). The best way tospecify color for the Karat is to usethe color chips which follow.
