ALEJANDRO ARAVENA
Arquitecto de la Universidad Católica de Chile (1992), estableció su
práctica independiente en 1994, después de estudiar Historia y
Teoría en la Università IUAV di Venezia y grabado en la Accademia di
Belle Arti di Venezia. Fue profesor invitado del Graduate School of
Design of Harvard University entre 2000 y 2005 y nombrado
International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects en
2010. Distinguido con premios como el León de Plata en la XI Bienal
de Venecia (2008), el Marcus Prize (2009) y la Medalla Erich Schelling
(2006), su trabajo se ha presentado en la Bienal de São Paulo (2007),
la Trienal de Milán (2008), la Bienal de Venecia (2008 y 2012), el
MoMA de Nueva York (2010) y la MA Gallery en Tokio (2011), entre
otros. Ha sido nombrado uno de los 20 nuevos héroes del mundo
por la revista Monocle, además de ser ampliamente publicado en
más de 50 países. Actualmente es miembro de los consejos asesores de David Rockefeller Center
for Latin American Studies y del the Cities Program of the London School of Economics, así como
parte del jurado del premio Pritzker y es, desde 2006, director ejecutivo de ELEMENTAL, un "do-
tank" que, en asociación con COPEC y la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, desarrolla
proyectos de vivienda e infraestructura con interés público e impacto social.
Alejandro Aravena is an architect of the Catholic University of Chile (1992). He established his
independent practice in 1994 after studying History and Theory at the Università IUAV di Venezia
and enrolling at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. He was a visiting professor at the Graduate
School of Design at Harvard University between 2000 and 2005, and was named the International
Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2010. Honoured with awards such as the Silver
Lion at the XI Venice Biennale (2008), the Marcus Prize (2009) and Erich Schelling Medal (2006), his
work has been presented at the São Paulo Biennial (2007), the Triennial Milan (2008), the Venice
Biennale (2008 and 2012), the MoMA in New York (2010) and MA Gallery in Tokyo (2011). Aravena
has been named one of the “20 New Heroes of the World” by Monocle magazine, and his work has
been widely published in more than 50 countries. He currently serves on the advisory boards of
the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies and the Cities Program of the London
School of Economics, and is also is a member of the Pritzker Prize jury. Since 2006, Aravena has
been the Executive Director of ELEMENTAL, a "do-tank" in partnership with COPEC and the
Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, which develops housing and infrastructure projects that
focus on social impact and public interest.
