VOYAGE 10+1Beatriz Aymat
VOYAGE 10+1Beatriz Aymat
The eleventh edition of Periscopio takes us through a trip where
experiences and shared moments do not cease. In this journey, we
look back and select, as Albano does in his diary-paintings, those
exhibitions, conferences and courses which are building his career.
Our paths took us back to Santander, Montevideo or Cadaqués,
our heart beat in Madrid, Copenhagen or the eternal Cambridge.
And we have left a mark in Panama, Barcelona, and London.
A Voyage with La luz del silencio and Sephardic music of len-
gua florida. A voyage to walk and navigate from Ávila to
Ithaca, with Teresian steps that project us outside the walls.

The Centre for Languages and Inter-Communication’s raison d’être is to foster and facilitate communication between individuals or groups of individuals who come from different backgrounds. These people may approach and describe the same object, idea or experience from many different angles and perspectives. As a result, a unity of concept can translate into a varied range of words and means of expression which, in turn, may or may not be fully understood by all parties.
If this is obvious in the case of languages, where, for example, translations of a same text look very different across languages, the same is also true for artists using diffe-rent media to express a common concept. This is why I feel the work by Albano and José María Muñoz Quirós has all its place in our Centre as they perfectly illustrate a unity of concept expressed through two forms of art.

Iturria was first, then Ignacio; both with Uruguayan beats and Basque accent memory. It all started with a greeting, what I did not know then is that Iturria has such a capacity for observation that, even before shaking his hand, he had already gained a deep sense of me.
Discovering him and his world is an arduous and complex task: the blank canvas, maté, a car, the spatula, the little train, dry paint on the tube and live on the canvas, El Cigala, a room to inhabit, football, Rummy, Rosario, a boat, silence and chats, night, Cadaqués and rice with eggs. Objects, spaces, and characters that make up his uni-verse and that could appear on a canvas interpreted with the energy of the painter who has just been born in his 30s or 40s.
Ignacio captivates with his painting, wins our hearts through sharing his thoughts and teaches by example. Always with and for his family, like a living painting whose shapes and colors are mixed in a palette held between Claudia’s delicate hands.

Me siento
ge, Yakarta, Riad, Londres, Montevideo, Ávila y tan-
tos otros lugares cuya esencia sois vosotros. Gracias.
Artworks have different values: cultural, economic,
aesthetic, historical, and the one which has always
belonged and will belong to the artist, not even to the
people who participate in the act of creation, if any,
only the artist is internally experiencing the value of this
succession of sensations that occur in the process of
artistic creation. Great teachers have witnessed those
feelings throughout history, surprised by how a perso-
nal relationship is built with a block of marble, a can-
vas or a piece of wood that emits sound. In this way,
they have recorded that there is nothing higher for art-
works than to build an interpersonal relationship, that
the essence of life lies in our relationship with others.
Relationships for us are, by nature, very selecti-
ve, we only maintain them with around five thousand
people among the billions with whom we share the
world. That is why, dear Bitácora, when I see the end
of the year approaching, the memories of enjoyment,
struggle, and dedication in the study flow through
my mind; but in my heart are the people who have
been with me in these months, those who have given
meaning to my existence. I feel therefore fortunate
and grateful to have shared time with people of such
high human quality as those who appear in these
pages directly or indirectly, from Gerona, Cambrid-
ge, Jakarta, Riyadh, London, Montevideo, Ávila and
many other places whose essence is you. Thank you.
