About Aberdeen Drilling School
Rotary Drilling Well Control & Well Intervention Pressure Control is the core of the business which is
realised in our weekly IWCF and/or IADC accredited Well Control course for drilling and well services. Over
the years, the company has broadened the range of training provided with a focus on drilling and well
engineering.
Awareness programmes have become an increasingly popular component of our portfolio of courses. We
offer a range of awareness courses which are open to the public and designed to provide a basic
understanding of drilling and well services operations and equipment.
Drilling Engineer Development courses can be packaged in 10, 15, or 20-day formats, delivered either in
one of our own training centres or at the client’s location. These courses are for individual companies and
are designed to develop the technical skills of early career engineers in preparation for further field training
and further specialist courses.
We offer a range of specialist courses which fall under the banner of Drilling Performance Improvement.
These include 5 or 10-day Drilling Practices courses for the more experienced well engineer or for a drilling
team looking to improve collaborative working on well planning and execution. Other specialist courses
include Stuck Pipe Prevention and HPHT Drilling.
We also provide Rig-Site Services and consultancy for specific well planning and well control projects. Our
rig-site well control training and coaching focuses on optimising the performance of rig crews and ensuring
that agreed procedures are followed, particularly in the case of challenging environments such as HPHT.

Appendix 2: Global Reach
Aberdeen Drilling School and Aberdeen Drilling International have training centres in Aberdeen, UK;
Muscat, Oman; and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Since its inception in 1982, Aberdeen Drilling School has conducted training on a global scale. Our
instructors have delivered courses and consultancy in more than forty countries, ranging from the arctic of
Siberia to the deserts of Saudi Arabia.
In 2005, Aberdeen Drilling International established an operational base in Kuwait, followed in 2009 by a
training centre in Saudi Arabia, and a regional office and training facility three years later in Oman. In 2014
Aberdeen Drilling International (Malaysia) established a training centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Training courses and technical consultancy offered by Aberdeen Drilling School/Aberdeen Drilling
International is continually being adapted to the changing complexity of the industry we service. Specialist
courses are being delivered to a client base ranging from graduate engineers to highly skilled oil industry
veterans.
Our instructors have considerable field experience, organisational skills, and many have the ability to
communicate well in multiple languages. In 2013 alone, rig-site training was conducted for offshore rigs in
Asia-Pacific (Australia, Brunei, Indonesia), the Americas (Guyana, Brazil), and Europe (UK, Norway).
Onshore workshops have been run in a wide variety of locations including Alaska, Azerbaijan, Egypt, India,
Iraq, Nigeria and Pakistan.

Drilling Simulation Capabilities
As a leading advocate of the recommendations set out by the International Association of Oil & Gas
Producers (IOGP), Aberdeen Drilling School strongly endorses scenario-based training as a way to
“significantly enhance an Operations Team’s ability to mitigate well control events effectively and safely”
(IOGP Report 476, pg. 6).
Aberdeen Drilling School has invested in a wide range of cutting-edge drilling simulators suitable for all
stages of training, from introductory level familiarisation to advanced drilling engineering and well control.
Instructors can use simulators for training at the well site or certification under the International Well
Control Forum (IWCF) and International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) programmes.
DS5000 Full Size Rig Floor Drilling and Well Control Simulators
Aberdeen Drilling School has two full size rig floor simulators at the training facility in Aberdeen’s city-
centre and one in Kuala Lumpur. The DrillSIM-5000 comes equipped with a range of graphic consoles,
equipment and manifolds closely resembling those found on a drilling rig floor. Within the simulation
environment, realism is further enhanced by the use of electronically generated sound effects, which are
fully synchronised, with the various operational activities of the simulator.
Working alone or in small groups, trainees can execute “real-world” drilling or well control exercises
created by an instructor. This develops the trainee's problem-solving skills, helping to reduce the risk of
dangerous and expensive incidents occurring in the field.

Drilling Simulation Capabilities (cont.)
DRILLSIM 500 ‘Super Portable’ Drilling and Well Control Simulators
Portable simulator comprising four miniature consoles and a laptop computer. Used for training rig crews
and drilling personnel at the well site or classroom. The equipment represents rig floor panels and consoles
and responds as it does in the field. Instructors use the simulator to recreate examples of known and
potential emergencies in a controlled environment, which builds up the trainee's confidence and
troubleshooting skills, saving time, money and enhancing safety.
DRILLSIM 50 ‘Mini-Portable’ Drilling and Well Control Simulators
The simulator hardware comprises of a Drilling Controls Panel, Manifolds Panel, Remote Choke Panel, and
BOP Panel. The equipment represents the rig floor panels and consoles of the DRILLSIM 5000.
DRILLSIM-20 Compact-Portable Drilling & Well Control Simulators
The DrillSim-20 The DrillSIM-20 is designed for true portability, fitting into a single industrial transit case.
The simulator includes graphical imitations of Drilling Controls, Manifolds and BOP consoles, controlled
through a touch-screen Student Station.
DRILLSIM-5 Software
The DrillSIM-5 is a PC based version of the portable drilling and well control simulators, the DrillSIM-20,
DrillSIM-50 and DrillSIM-500. The software is available in Student and Instructor versions, the latter
allowing exercise configuration and monitoring using well-specific data.
