ACCIONA Energy is a world leader in the development

o renewable energy sources, with a major presence in a widerange o clean technologies. It has applied this experienceto its own projects and those carried out or its customers.

The company has installed around 9,000 MW in renewables– 86% o this fgure in wind power – and has hydropower,CSP, photovoltaic, biomass, biodiesel and bioethanol plants. It

also manu actures wind turbines using proprietary technology.

It belongs to ACCIONA, one o the biggest Spanishcorporations which operates in in rastructures, energy, water and services in more than 30 countries. Its corporate motto“Pioneers in development and sustainability” re ects itscommitment to contribute to economic growth, social

well-being and the protection o the environment in allits activities.

ACCIONA leads its sector on the Dow Jones SustainabilityIndex, has a work orce o around 35,000 people worldwideand earned revenues o 12,665 million euros in 2008. It isquoted on the IBEX-35 selective index o the Spanish stock

market (ANA.MC).

ACCIONA has taken a leading position in the resurgenceo concentrating solar power (CSP) in the world, based onparabolic trough technology. A number o milestonesre ect our position as a key player in this process:

• AP i 2006. F rst nstalat on for customers. ACCIONA, through its subsidiary Solargenix, opens the

1 MW plant in Saguaro, Arizona (USA) as a turnkeyproject or the Arizona utility APS.

• JU 2007. The b ggest plant n 18 years. ACCIONA grid connects Nevada Solar One (NSO),a 64 MW plant using parabolic trough collector technology – the biggest plant o its type built

in the world in the last 18 years– .

• D C MB 2008. xceed ng expectat ons. NSO produces 136 GWh o electricity in its frst ull year o operation, with a level o e fciency that takesoutput 9% above initial orecasts.

• S PT MB 2009. Second plant n operat on. ACCIONA puts into service Alvarado I, its frst CSP plantin Spain (50 MW) in the region o Extremadura.

• 2009-2011. Three plants under construct on. ACCIONA is simultaneously constructing three CSP plantsin southern Spain, each o them with a capacity o 50 MW

and parabolic trough technology. The acilities are: Palmadel Rio I and II (in Cordoba) and Majadas (in Caceres).Construction work on these acilities will be completedin 2010 and 2011.

• 2012. Our fth plant n Spa n. The 50 MW CSP plant at Orellana (Badajoz) will come into

operation. It is ACCIONA’s third acility in Extremadura.

• B O D 2012. ew projects. We will continue to develop solar thermal power projectsin the uture. In the short term, we have a port olioo a urther 450 MW in Spain and the USA.

v sol r osT rT G w rIn June 2007 ACCIONA grid connected Nevada Solar One,

located at Boulder City, Nevada (USA). It is the frst largeCSP plant installed in the world a ter the nine builtin Cali ornia between 1985 and 1991.

ACCIONA Solar Power recognized the potential or CSPgeneration in the Southwestern U.S. and built Nevada Solar One to demonstrate that this technology could per orm on

a commercial scale. The building o CSP plants in the U.S.could help contribute to a lower carbon-emitting electricitygrid in just a ew decades.

The energy generated in the plant is purchased by theelectric utilities Nevada Power and Serra Pacifc under a20-year contract.

Two years o operation have demonstrated the reliabilityo ACCIONA’s own technology, with production levelshigher than expected.

Alvarado I is the frst o the our plants that ACCIONA plans

to build in Spain by 2011, each o them with a capacityo 50 MW and parabolic trough technology.

The experience obtained with Nevada Solar One has been akey actor in the success ul completion o the constructiono the plant (opened in July 2009) and also or optimizingits operation and maintenance.

Alvarado will produce around 102 million kilowatt-hours per year, su fcient to cover the demand rom around 28,000homes and helping to achieve compliance o Spain’sobjectivesin renewables (20% o primary energy by 2020).

The solar feld spreads out over more than 130 hectares,

the equivalent o 170 soccer pitches. It has 184,320 mirrorsaligned in rows and 768 solar collectors with a total lengtho around 74 kilometers.

ACCIONA has proven capacity in the feld o solar thermal

energy that puts us in an excellent position in relation toour competitors.

We have developed our own parabolic trough technology on the basis o the experience o the companies thatundertook the initial development o this type o acilityin Cali ornia in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Our ongoing commitment to technological innovation isshown in a number o aspects, such as:

• ew HTF loop and new header frame and components that optimize e fciency and reduce the required capex,as well as operation and maintenance costs.

• &D projects a med at mprov ng ef c ency and

reduc ng costs in the short, medium and long term, e.g.:> Heat storage systems.

> Standardization and hybridization o the power unit.

> Better solar concentration ratios.

> Improvement o processes to reduce capitaland operational costs.

> Low cost heat bu ering or peak hours.

> Optimization o the rated power due to the scale e ect.

> Cycles higher temperatures.

> Simplifcation o technology in design and construction.

> Dry cooling or reduced use o water.

ACCIONA’s engineering and construction team is one

o the most experienced in the world when it comesto dealing with the technical challenges posed by theinstallation o large CSP plants.

We put this know-how at the service o our customers, with the guarantee o a company that has convertedprojects into reality that are commercially viable, o ten

exceeding orecasts.

Some di erential assets vis-à-vis our competitors include:

• The most mature parabol c trough technology, developed in-house, with a working li e o morethan 35 years.

• Our own s mulat on tools or plant design and

modeling o di erent operating strategies (SimulCET)and or the design and modeling o solar felds (DinaCET).

• Own des gn of space frames or the solar concentrators. These can be built locally by approved suppliers to reducethe installation costs.

• The longest-stand ng construct on exper encen the sector, with several plants in operation andunder construction.

• The guarantee of del ver ng projects n l ne withthe project fnance requirements o fnancial institutions.

ACCIONA has real and direct knowledge o all the aspects

involved in the operation and maintenance o a CSP plant. This has enabled us to develop exclusive technologies andprocesses that make the best use o the production capacityo our acilities and minimize costs, thus improving thee fciency o the plants. To achieve this, we have:

• More exper ence n the operat on and ma ntenance

of CSP plants than our competitors, with over 140,000man-hours worked.

• rea kn edge o the management o O&Min operational plants.

• Correct ve ma ntenance rates below forecasts

due to the optimal design o the solar feld, with major cost reductions.

• Our own O&M tra n ng centres in the United Statesand Spain.

• xtens ve exper ence n eld control and superv s on

systems, with so tware developed in-house.

• xtens ve knowledge n other elds such as turbinetechnology, ancillary unctions (mirror maintenance, fre prevention) and relations with suppliers, among others.
