To be in business for 50 years meansyou are doing a lot of things right. Skalnek Ford is celebrating their 50th

year in 2014and not only isdoing verywell but

enjoyed its topyear ever in2013. In fact, the past threeyears havebeen thedealer sh ipsbest in its 50years. Rich Skalnek has seen Lake Orionblossom from a small community into

a thriving region. Skalnek Ford is afixture in the community and is theoldest auto dealership in Lake Orion. The dealership has anchored the areaalong S. Lapeer Road for these manyyears. We have been blessed to have beenhere at this site all these years,Skalnek said. Rich said there are several reasonswhy the dealership is thriving. It is

    currently ranked ninth among 180

Fifty years of great service and deals at Skalnek Forddealers in the Great Lakes Region. Many of the other dealers in the areaare much larger than Skalnek..

Fords strongproduct line ofnew cars has beengreat and that the

    company isattracting what areknown as c o n q u e s t p u r c h a s e s ,Skalnke said.These arecustomers whohave switched to

    Ford products from otherautomakers.

The other thing that hashelped is Fords CertifiedPre-Owned program, which provides buyerswith vehicles that Ford hascertified and providedwarranties. These areusually vehicles withfairly low miles, often justoff leases, that are greatbargains.

    The cars sold as

Certified Pre-owned must meetstringent standards and Skalnekmakes sure those cars andtrucks are in great shape. One of the best innovationsthat has helped sales isSkalneks use of the internet

and other sources such asAutoTrader to market itsvehicles and attract buyers fromoutside of the Lake Orion andOxford areas. The array of vehicles can befound at www.skalnekford.com If a customer sees a vehiclethey are interested on the

website, then can send a message anda salesperson will take a short video

of the vehicle showing all around itand send the personalized video to thecustomer. Rich said the dealership will takeon a new look in its 50thyear. Ford is planning an upgrade offacilities soon and Skalnek will be apart of it. There also are plans for expansiondue to the increase in sales. After all, one should never stop

growing, even after 50 great years.

In the Brandon School District, we take pride in themany outstanding accomplishments of our students. With another wonderful group of seniors in the Classof 2014 set to cross the stage at Meadowbrook in June, its important to remember it doesnt matter when you

get herewe have great programs ready for you when-ever you enroll.Brothers Matthew and Steven Jones have attended

Brandon schools since their kindergarten days atHarvey-Swanson. When they exit the stage as co-vale-dictorians in June, they will close a legacy of academicand athletic achievement started by their older brother,Colin, and sister, Kristine.

Katelyn Craghead came to Brandon in third grade, and the senior from Auburn Hills has made the most ofher decision. She is currently the president of the Busi-

ness Professionals of America and competes on the highschools Truck Town Thunder robotics team.Nathan Zimmerman came to Brandon High School

as a freshman from a private school in Waterford. Hequickly made himself at home as a member of the soc-cer and track teams. As a senior, he is currently vice-president of the National Honor Society, and he is look-ing forward to majoring in engineering with an empha-sis in computer science at the University of Michiganin Ann Arbor starting next fall.

In my time at Brandon I have been able to accom-

plish so much that in other places I definitely would

not have, said Craghead, who will attend Northern

Michigan University in the fall. Between the amazingteachers and staff, I cant imagine spending so manyhours anywhere else.

The Brandon School District is proud to welcomestudents who move here or live in a neighboring com-munity and want to take advantage of the renownedprograms and facilities we offer.

This year, the Brandon Virtual School exceeded ourprojected enrollment. Students jumped at the chanceto take Advance Placement (AP) courses, honors-levelscience classes, and foreign languages such as German,

Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and Italian. Our dedicated

lab provides students a consistent, comfortable placeto take their classes.

Our varsity sports programs had a dominant winterseason. The poms team took first place in the MidAmerican Pompon State Championship, while ourwrestling and cheerleading teams captured Flint Metro

League titles.Academically, Brandon continues to develop pro-

grams for all students. While interventionists and sup-port personnel are in place for struggling students, arenewed emphasis has been placed on challenging ourmore advanced students.

At the elementary schools, reading and math work-shops allow students to get help that matches wherethey are, not where everyone else is. The intermediateschool has begun advanced math, and the middle schoolcontinues to offer honors options.

At the high school, the S.T.E.M. program continuesto see record enrollment every year, and the Englishdepartment has brought back its honors program start-ing in ninth grade. The high school offers more APcourses than ever, with students now able to take over20 classes for potential college credit.

Contact one of our schools today to see what kind ofplan we can design for your child. As weve seen fromthe Class of 2014, it doesnt matter when you get hereit just matters that youre here.
