Chapter 1: Getting Started

If you have not installed your new software , begin by reading some information on installation and preliminary information

before start using the software , spend a few moments to read an overview of Adobe Help and of the many resources available t

users. You have access to instructional videos , plug-ins , templates, communities users , seminars , tutorials , RSS feeds and more

Install the software

1 Close all Adobe applications open on your computer .

2 Insert the installation disc into the DVD drive and follow the instructions on the screen .

For each licensed copy of Adobe ® After Effects ® , you can activate and use one copy of the full version of the application on

computer . You can also install additional copies on additional equipment to use as engines After Effects render to assist in processin

the network. Install processing engines same way as the full version of the application, but not active. Run the engine for processing b

Activate the software

If you have a single-user license for the software from Adobe , you are prompted to activate the software , this is a process

simple and anonymous to be completed within 30 days from the start of the software.

For more information on product activation , see the ReadMe file on the installation disc or

visit the Adobe website at http://www.adobe.com/go/products/activation_es .

1 If the Activation dialog box is not already open , choose Help > Activate.

2 Follow the instructions on screen.

Note: To install the software on another computer, you must first deactivate it on your computer . Choose Help> Deactivate .

Register Register your product to receive complimentary installation support , notifications of updates and other services.

After Effects provides the tools you need to organize complex projects and maximize the

performance , so you can concentrate on their creative work.

Basics Project

About the project files A deAfter Effects project is a single file that stores compositions and references to all elements of footage use

in this project. The compositions are collections of layers . Many layers use elements as the source footage , though a few layers ( a

shape layers and text layers ) contain graphics that are created in After Effects. A project file has the file name extension . Aep . th

Current project name appears at the top of the application window . A project template is a file with the file name extension . Aet . Th

numerous projects template included in After Effects (which are demenú DVD templates ) can be used as the basis for own projects

You can also create new templates based on your projects .

An excellent way to see how users use After Effects is to open one of the projects template included with After Effects, select all laye

Using template projects When you open a template project , After Effects creates an untitled project based on the template . Thi

means that if save the changes made in the project , the project template is unchanged. Often , the author of a template project laye

crashes should remain unchanged and leaves without blocking layers have to be modified . This is a very practical way to reus

materials and avoid changes accidental or inappropriate .
