BACKGROUND
Part of the modification in converting an MTBEunit to an Iso-octene unit required the C4 streamto have as low nitrile content as possible. Thiswas because the Iso-octene catalyst is moresensitive to the nitriles than the MTBE catalyst.The existing Water Wash Column at the Clients
Oil Refinery was not removing targeted N-compounds (mostly acetonitrile, ACN) from the C4Feed and was hydraulically limited. The Refinerywish to improve the performance of the subjectWater Wash Liquid/Liquid Extraction Column. Onepart of the solution is to maximize the theoreticalstages as part of an overall plan to improveextraction efficiency. AMT proposed revamping thecolumn with AMTs field-proven ADE PinnaclePerformance Extraction trays.
